Chapter 18
Sam P.O.V
I've always fucking hated hospitals with a burning passion. Especially because of horror movies.
I never liked going to one whenever I had something wrong with me. Even with just a broken bone it was a nightmare, because I always had that constant fear that I was going to go there and they were going to tell me there was something else wrong with me.
I know it's probably a weird and stupid fear, and I'm not sure how I really developed such a fear but... Like I said, maybe it was just the horror movies.
Luckily, however, this time I didn't have to go to the hospital to visit my mother alone. It was a Saturday, and Taylor was free from doing anything so... She came with me.
It did take a little convincing, seeing as she seemed to hate hospitals just as much as me. But I so badly wanted her to meet my mom, even if she was sick.
So, together, we decided to go to the hospital and... She didn't hesitate for a second to hold my hand for comfort. Which, I didn't exactly mind. She was my girlfriend now after all, and I also needed the support.
We were both fucking nervous, arriving outside my mom's room. Taylor decided to let go of my hand, thinking it would be a bit awkward for a first meeting with my mother. I didn't mind at all and with a small, anxious smile I opened the door, seeing her lying in bed, reading a book.
When she noticed us in the doorway, she smiled with delight, closing her book and putting it face up on the covers. I stepped further into the room, allowing Taylor to follow in after me.
"Hey mom." I said.
"Hello Sam." She beamed. "Who is this?" She wondered, her eyes trailing over to Taylor.
"Oh, this is the girl I told you about on my first day." I explained. Taylor rose her eyebrows, seeming surprised that I had already mentioned her. "Mom, this is Taylor."
"Oh! Taylor, it's so nice to finally meet you." She said. "Thank you so much for making my daughter feel welcome at your school. It means a lot, seeing as she was pretty worried about having to leave her old friends."
"It's, uh... No problem, Ms Hannah." Taylor stuttered, trying to be as polite and not as awkward as possible. I found it kinda cute, how she was trying to be really sweet to my mom.
"Please, there's no need to be so formal. Just call me Katherine." My mom said.
"A-Are you sure?" Taylor asked, seeming kind of skeptical. Mom happily nodded, seeming perfectly content about being called by her first name by Taylor.
"Oh, by the way..." I spoke, taking my backpack off my back and unzipping it. I took out a small paper bag, passing it to Katherine. "I brought you some food. I know how the hospital food can be pretty shit."
"Oh, thank you, Sam!" She exclaimed, taking it from my hands and giving me a kiss on the cheek. "And it really is. Seriously, I can imagine you could feed better food to a dog."
"I know... I'm sorry you have to be here, mom." I apologized. She shook her head, still smiling all the while. I didn't understand how she could be so calm in such a situation. I'd be so fucking scared. I'm just scared being the witness to it.
"Don't apologize, love." She said. "It's no one's fault. Besides, a few days ago I was told that things may be looking up and I won't have to stay here any longer. They'll just have to have a carer at the house now and then to make sure I'm doing okay."
"Oh, I see..." I answered.
"Thank you so much for coming to visit me you two, but I think that's enough for now. It's a Saturday, you two should be out enjoying yourselves. Now, off you go." She said, shooing us out the room.
"I love you, mom." I replied, kissing her on the cheek and giving her a hug, before leaving the room with Taylor.
"Your mom is so nice." Taylor complimented as we walked down the hall. "And she even lets you swear! My dad would probably skin me alive if he heard one single dirty word from my mouth."
I giggled as we came to the entrance of the hospital, stepping out into the sunshine. It was quite a nice day, considering.
"Yeah, she used to get angry. But I'd never listen to her when she told me to stop swearing." I admitted, sheepishly. "And I guess she just gave up and got used to it in the end."
"Too much of a sweetheart. Now I see where you get it from." She grinned, hooking arms with me. I laughed, feeling touched by her compliment.
"Where should we go now, anyway? I never know what to do on Saturdays. All I ever end up doing is playing video games, or going on YouTube." I sighed.
"Yeah, I know the feeling. I used to play a ton of video games, before I got bored of all the shit I had." She responded. "Plus, what do you watch on YouTube?"
"Oh. Well, sometimes I just use it to listen to music. Others, I watch YouTubers. You ever heard of Markiplier or Jacksepticeye?"
She thought about it for a moment, before nodding.
"I know who they are. One of them has green hair, and the other red, right? I've never watched them though." She admitted. I gasped, seeming shocked as I made my eyes wide, setting my mouth in a 'o' shape.
"You've never watched Jacksepticeye or Markiplier? Please tell me why you're my girlfriend again." I joked. She pouted.
"'Cause... I have a good ass?" She tried. I snorted, letting out a laugh. That definitely wasn't a comeback I expected from her. She grinned.
"Well, okay, sure, maybe." I giggled. "But I can't believe you don't watch them!"
"I've just never really thought about watching them all that much."
"Well, allow me to change that." I winked, leading her along the pavement as we made our way back to my house.
