Chapter 19

Taylor P.O.V

We had headed back to Sam's house, just casually lounging around in her bedroom, as she went to show me all different kinds of videos by several different YouTubers. And I'm not going to lie, a lot of the time, they could be really funny people.

This Mark guy, has red dyed hair. Something that he seemed to like to "floof for power". And then there was Jack, the green haired guy who was just so fucking loud, but amusing nonetheless. Sam told me about how they were a lot of people's favourite duo, including her own.

In fact, she seemed to have a huge obsession when it came to YouTube. Like she ate and breathed it, knowing how things worked. It was kind of cute in a way, seeing her fangirl over these people that she wished she could meet. They seemed like idols to her.

"Do you like, really look up to these people?" I questioned, clearly interested. Her eyes gleamed, seemingly ecstatic that I'd ask such a question.

"Are you kidding? I admire them greatly, of course. Especially Mark."

"Why Mark specifically?"

She smiled a small smile, scratching the back of her short black hair as she then pouted in thought.

"Well... He's someone who has been through a lot... Yet he somehow knows how to remain happy... And he goes to do that for others, to make their day and make them laugh. To feel like you're not so alone and the world isn't really so cold and dead after all... I'd like to be that person."

"To make people laugh and feel better?"

"Exactly... Even with my mom being sick, it's why I try to have a more positive outlook on life. It's thanks to Mark that I'm even positive at all, because I had a really tough year at my old school. I felt really alone and antisocial. Like there was no point in anything anymore. But then finding him pulled me out of that..." She rose her eyebrows before smiling a sheepish smile.

"Sorry, I'm rambling."

"No, it's okay. I like hearing you talk about things you're passionate about. It's cute." I smiled, causing her to blush a little. "And besides, you say you want to be that person for someone, well, you already are to me. You've really helped me out of my shell and my complete and utter despair... If you had never moved to my school, or if you never spoke to me, I'd probably be six feet under by now."

"Taylor..." Sam frowned.

"Hey, it's the truth." I shrugged.

"Well... I'm happy to be here for you." She beamed. "After all, I feel like my purpose on this earth is to make people smile, to make people feel better. Like things don't suck so much after all."

"I feel like my purpose is being a screw up." I joked.

"Hey, you are not a screw up." Sam protested, crossing her arms.

"Really? You're the first person I've even managed to befriend in years. Anyone else just sees me as a freaky girl who has some serious issues. And I can't help but push everyone away because I'm so worried about screwing up someone else's life... Or I'm just worried about being abandoned and hurt again..." Taylor muttered, now feeling upset as she was just going back into her old dark thoughts again. Frowning, Sam gently placed her hand on top of Taylor's, looking her in the eyes.

"I promise you, that I'll never leave you. Not ever. And I'll keep that promise to you, no matter what."

"You really mean that...? Because I've had a lot of people make promises before... Especially that bitch McKenzie."

"Well, I ain't McKenzie." Sam smiled. "And besides, I already had a feeling of what she'd be like when I first met her... It was you that I wanted to be friends with, over that girl who just cakes her face in way too much make-up!" Sam cried, as I laughed in response.

"Yeah, I know right! What's annoying though, is that she's not even an ugly person. She doesn't even need make-up! And yet she acts all dramatic about it, like it's the end of the world or something. She used to be a lot different when I knew her as a kid. She was pretty kind to be honest... But then ever since coming to this school, she just changed."

"Yeah, popularity can really change people." Sam sighed in exasperation, as she flicked her fringe out of her eyes. "I had to go through a lot of bullshit in my old school too with people changing and all that... Highschool drama is pretty normal, it happens to everyone. And the first year was definitely my least favourite."

"Didn't you have a boyfriend in your old school?" I wondered nervously, biting on the inside of my cheek as I asked that question. Sam giggled a little, poking me in the cheek.

"Why? You're not jealous, are you?"

"No! Of course not!"

"Don't worry, Tay. Your my and only princess." Sam teased.

"Hey! Cut it out!"

"Alright, alright." Sam chuckled. "But yeah, I did. But like I said before, I broke up with him because it just wasn't going to work with distance and such. Besides, we seemed more like really close friends, rather than two people who were in a romantic relationship. I've moved on from all of that, and I just want to focus on my life here, with my mom and you."

"Yeah... Well... I'm glad you moved here, Sam..." I whispered, leaning my head on her shoulder with a small frown. "If you had never showed up, I still wouldn't be here so... Just, thanks..."

"Well, you should thank my mom for deciding to move here." Sam grinned, as she let out a small sigh. "I just really hope she does improve. I'm so worried about her..."

"I'm sure it'll be fine. Maybe the world won't be so cruel to you, seeing as you're such a good person."

"Hey, so are you. That doesn't mean the world has to be cruel to you."

"Eh... I don't know. There are days when I feel like this world would have  been a lot better off without me."

"Don't say that." Sam firmly said, taking her arm and putting it across Taylor's shoulders. "If I had never met you, I'd probably be suffering with this whole thing alone, worrying about my mother's condition... So, I'm glad that you're still around. And I want it to stay that way, because I really do care about you..."

"...I know... I care about you too, Sam... So, please don't ever leave me."

"I won't." Sam smiled. "I promise."
