Hiding
In life, we all do a bit of hiding. Whether it's having a secret lover or taking money from mothers purse. But they're all for the same reasons. To save others from hurt, avoid questions, and deter feeling guilty.
When you cut, no matter where it is; There's that constant paranoia that someone will see. For a moment, you considering telling others, or carefully letting your sleeves roll down. Just to see if someone will cry. Or hear your cry for help.
But then there's other times. Where you want to keep your mental state to yourself which will allow you to get worse until you whither away.
If you know someone who self harms, the worse thing you can do is get mad at them for it. It'll just push them further. You should comfort them and seek help. Their worst fear is finding out, don't be that person that blabs it. They're entitled to privacy like everyone else.
Threatening to tell is the worst thing to do. They deserve your love and support. You cannot fix them or make them stop. That's something every addict has to do on their own.
You want to tell everyone, let them know you're hurting, but all the while still wanting to suffer in silence.
It makes you more aware. Of the boy in class that wears sweatshirts year round or the girl that only swims in shorts, or the amount of bracelets worn.
The people that self harm are smart. You have to calculate everything perfectly to prevent leaving evidence or getting caught.
It's a very lonely addiction that will leave marks to last forever as a reminder of your hiding.
