"I'm moving"

Everything was perfectly fine, just like a happy movie. It was a Sunday and we decided to meet as usual at The Lost Caravan in Church Street.

I was really excited to meet him today as it had been 2 months since we met each other the last time.

I wore a blue dress with geometric print and paired it with a subtle silver flats. I wore his favorite chocoberry lip balm and smiled to myself when I imagined him kissing me. I made sure to wear the watch he gifted.

It was supposed to be a very important day for both of us. We were going to celebrate our 2nd year love anniversary.

When I reached I expected him to be holding a bunch of red flowers and waiting for me. I expected him to smile at me as soon as he saw me. I expected him to hug me. At least this was how I was feeling.

I called his number when I did not find him around. "I'm on my way. You go inside and get a table for 5" he said.

"For Five?" I was a shocked.

"Um yes. My friends are coming too. It's Mayank's birthday. That's why I called you." My heart literally broke. He had forgotten it was our anniversary today. He'd invited me only because it was his best friend's birthday.

I went inside disappointed. Once I sat down, I was lost in thoughts.

What happened to us after the first year? I thought.

We would fight over silly reasons. Everything I did irritated him.

"You're acting cranky"

"You're not who I met a year ago"

"Why are you so irritating now?"

"You're getting on my nerves"

He always would shout at me. He now used to call me 'babe' instead of 'baby', not that I'm complaining, but I somehow didn't like the change.

I jerked a little when I felt someone tap on my head. I turned around and his friends were laughing.

"Hey babe." He said and took a seat.

After a while of talking and eating food, his friends wanted to smoke so they went to the 'smokers lane' and Adhi stayed back saying he had something important to talk with me. I felt very happy. I thought he remembered now.

"I need to tell you something Prerna."

"Yes Adhi. Tell me" I waited to hear happy anniversary baby from him.

"I've completed my degree now. So I'm moving forever to Shimla. I don't want a long distance relationship." He was looking everywhere but me.

"What are you saying?" I could feel tears rolling down my cheeks. I tried my best to stop crying but failed.

"We need to break up" he said that like these two years meant nothing to him.

I wanted to yell at him. I wanted to tell him that he broke my heart. I wanted to run away from him, far far away. But my legs decided to stay numb.

All that I managed to tell him was "alright" and I left.
