Chapter 1-The Beginning

"Motherfucker!"

"Watch your fucking language!"

"You're one to talk!"

I finally managed to close my backpack all the way and zipped it shut, dramatically wiping the nonexistent sweat off my forehead. "At last! I have defeated you, foul beast!" I exclaimed as I stood up and placed one foot on my luggage, striking a knightly pose. My twin sister, Moon, laughed at my silly behavior.

"Alright! I think we're about ready to go," I said, dropping my act. "Do we have everything?"

"I think so," Moon replied.

"Water?"

"Check."

"Clothes?"

"Check."

"First aid?"

"Check."

"Weapons?"

"We never go without them so check."

"I think that's everything."

Moon nodded in agreement.

My energetic twin then tossed me the Galaxy.

The Galaxy is a device invented by our great grandfather that punches a hole through time and space, creating a controlled vortex that allows us to travel to different dimensional plains. Basically it creates a portal to another dimension.

Our great grandfather spent his days travelling from dimension to dimension, jotting down his findings and the details of each world onto the pages of an old, leather journal. Once the first journal was filled, he wrote another.

But, alas, like many, he could not live forever. So, when he retired, he passed the Galaxy and the two journals down to his son, our grandfather, who continued travelling and writing his findings down in journals, who passed it down to our mother who then passed it to us. We continue our new-found tradition by visiting some of the dimensions found by those before us as well as discovering new one and, of course, jotting down our findings into our own journals.

Moon has better handwriting than I do, though, so she's usually the one who writes everything down.

"You got the book?" Speak of the devil. I nodded and handed it to her.

"Any guess on what we'll encounter on the next jump?" I asked.

Moon shrugged. "No clue. But who knows! Maybe they'll actually accept mutants." She gently flapped her pastel pink wings for added emphasis.

"Yeah," I muttered, glancing at my own black scaled wings. "Maybe."

Yeah, here's the thing. We aren't your average human being, but we aren't your average mutant, either. We're hybrids. Dragon hybrids, to be exact.

Let me tell ya, being part dragon has its perks! For example: we can breath FIRE which is fucking AWESOME! We also have enhanced hearing, eyesight, sense of smell, we are fireproof!! We have wings, no der, and our eyes are a bit different from the average humans.

Our pupils are usually round but if we get angry or feel threatened, they turn to slits kind of like that of a snake's. Oh, and our eye color? Moon has bright, baby blue eyes while mine are a dark, midnight blue. Now, this would be perfectly fine for eye color if they didn't glow in the actual freaking DARK!

It freaks people out, sometimes. It's honestly quite funny.

Speaking of freaking people out.

"You have your hoodie, right?" I asked.

Moon turned to me and smiled. "Yup," she answered. She gestured to her wings with her thumb. "Wouldn't wanna cause nationwide panic if the folks where we're going don't have wings!"

I chuckled when she said that. "Agreed."

* * * *

After I made sure we had everything packed up and ready to go I stood up and, recalling the little "act" I put on earlier, placed a foot atop my backpack. I struck another knightly pose and outstretched my hand toward my twin.

"Join me, dear sister, in a journey across time and space, into the great unknown! Join me in an adventure. One to another dimension! To a distant land unlike anything we have ever seen before," I declared, unfolding and stretching my wings at the end for added effect.

Moon lost her shit.

She laughed so hard she doubled over, hands clutching her sides.

Primus, lady. Calm your shit. It wasn't even that funny.

"Yeah, I'm the one that finds everything funny," I snickered, rolling my eyes.

Giggly McChuckles over here finally stopped laughing only to glare at me. "Fuck you," she growled, playfully.

"Yeah, no thanks. That's gross."

"Get your mind out of the gutter."

"But that's where it lives!"

"Then tell it to move!"

"I don't think the Land of the Innocent accepts sewage. My mind has been in the gutter so long that it evolved into Garbatron."

"So your mind is a Pokemon, now?"

"Yes."

"What was it before it was Garbatron?"

"Trashpac."

"Wow. Just wow."

"Yup. Crazy, huh?"

"What's wrong with you?" Moon asked.

I thought for a second before replying. "Do you want that in alphabetical order or in a descending order of weirdness?"

My twin shook her head, probably having an internal debate on weather or not to take me to the nearest mental hospital. "Just forget I asked," she said, pulling her pastel blue hoodie over her head, successfully covering her wings.

"Will do," I replied with a smirk, doing the same with my own dark blue hoodie. "You ready to go?" I asked.

"Yup," Moon replied.

We both put on our backpacks and, after making sure we had enough money to survive wherever we end up, I grabbed the Galaxy and punched in the coordinates to our next destination.

The blueish-green swirling vortex appeared a few feet ahead of us.

Moon turned to me. "You ready for this?"

"Hell yeah," I replied with a grin. "You?"

"You know it! Now let's burn this candle!" She shouted. She then proceeded to full on sprint towards the portal, yelling something about "platform 9 3/4" along the way.

I chuckled and ran after her shouting, "WAIT FOR ME YOU CRAZY MUGGLE!"
