Seven

When the trio walked into the kitchen/dining room, two girls sat in a plush dining nook. One was Doc, and the one sitting close to her was Ame. They both had a steaming mug in their hands, poured from the large coffee maker on the counter.

"Coffee smells funny." It seemed like an innocent statement, as he padded into the kitchen in socked feet and pajamas that were too big for him.

But there was a gasp and Doc was physically trying to hold Ame in her chair. The female looked slighter than doc with long multicolored hair falling into her face, but she stood. "Am." Doc pulled on the girl's hand. "Ame, he didn't mean it."

Literal fire flared from the girl's nostrils, and Hunter backed up, bumping into Deca's chest. "Doc, let her go."

Doc sighed, like she no longer cared, "Sorry, Hunter."

Hunter looked up at Deca with wide eyes before Ame was in his face, eyes suspicious. "Coffee is wonderful. It doesn't smell funny."

"I only wanted to know why people drink it if it smells fu- like that." He said, sniffing the air.

"Because it wakes you up. It gives you energy. It's wonderful. Have you even had coffee before?" She demanded, breathing fire again.

Hunter reached behind him, grabbing Deca's hand as he pressed into him. The larger shifter set his chin in Hunter's black hair, he could feel him smiling. That vibration passed between them, and Hunter knew no one else could hear it this time as Ame just kept ranting. I'm sorry, Deca said into his mind, Ame is a dragon. They're passionate. She's harmless.

Hunter doubted that when she was literally breathing fire, but he shook his head, "I've never had it."

"And why not?!" She demanded, standing on her tip toes, and leaning into Hunter's face.

"I never got the chance," his voice was a whisper, "I avoided people and there was always a lot of people at coffee places."

There was another sharp gasp, and Ame somehow had the hand Hunter was sure Deca had been holding, and pulling him across the kitchen. "We're changing that. There's all kinds of coffee; hot, cold, espresso, latte." Hunter's head spun as she listed off more name. "Today we are all having a latte. It's hot, and you're going to love it."

Her eyes sparkles as she let go of the spider, and hit the start button. Hunter groaned, unable to hide from the noise. As comforting as Deca's noise and vibration that seemed only for Hunter was, these noises and vibrations set his teeth on edge. It was made worse when Ame tried to talk over it.

He stepped back, turning immediately and racing face first into Deca. "Make it stop," he whimpered.

"Am, enough," Deca said.

"It's almost done," the girl watched the coffee pour, bouncing on her feet.

"Amethyst!" Deca shouted over the noise, and Hunter shifted, crawling over Deca's shoulder and sticking to his back. He flexed his feelers and fangs in agitation.

The dragon shifter looked over. Gasping, she hit the stop button. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know."

Hunter looked over Deca's broad shoulder, ears ringing. "Stick to quiet coffee," Deca whispered, reaching behind him, and taking Hunter to his front.

Hunter expected to be set down, hopefully not in disgust at his form, but he was flipped onto his back. The spider squeaked in surprise. Careful! I'm -

"Soft," Deca vibrated, with a smile, "I know, and I like it." He nuzzles his cheek into Hunter's, and turned for the bedroom.

"CJ, you're in charge of the pancakes," he said, walking out of the kitchen.
