Chapter ten
I stood dumbfounded and awestruck. She was glittering! I found it so beautiful and amazing. I stared for long as she stood smiling as well.
"What's with the killing all this while?" I finally asked when we sobered up and she stopped glittering.
"Rose. It's not her will to watch people die or even kill them but she's not happy. There's an agony in her. She's not happy with this life and she's mainly jealous of human." She answered sadly.
"It sounds really weird, I mean she should be happy for being such a beauty and also have super powers." I said. Does that even make sense?
"Yeah but she's not." She answered.
I couldn't sleep. I kept tossing and turning on the bed. Anytime I check the time, I feel it was moving really slow.. I want day to break already cos the more I pray for sleep, the more awake I become.
"Aaarrrgghhh!" I groaned loudly and turned to see Lara who was sleeping peacefully. How does she manage to sleep so peacefully even after knowing everything going on in this goddamned school.
I turned to the door when I heard it creaked open.
Amber and Rose came in so quietly and sat on their bed. The moonlight sneaking into the room reflected on Rose's face. I felt chills down my spine when I saw the look in her eyes. Her expression was cold and she stared at me with hatred. Pure hatred. Amber smiled at me and lied on her bed.
Living in a school with vampires? That had never crossed my wildest imaginations. And now here I am with the icy cold glare of a vampire on me. I kept staring back at her as she stared back at me too. I rolled my eyes and looked away. What's she debating on? Devouring me in my bed or was she thinking of enjoying me when I roll out of bed? I sat up and stretched my arms. Gosh, I wish I wasn't so stubborn and curious! The air blew strongly trying to carry my messy hair with it. I watched as Rose stiffened and inhaled deeply. I kept staring at her as she stared, actually glared back. I heard a low roar and purr from her. I hurriedly opened the window so I could see her well through the generously bright light of the full moon.
Goose bumps filled my skin as I took in her expression. I felt like shouting and screaming. She looked exactly like the vampire I used to see on Google whenever curiosity send me to search for vampires. Her canines became longer and she bared her teeth at me. Gosh, someone help me pack my stuff. I'm going home now!
I felt a tear trickled down my cheeks.
Amber sat up and held her arm.
I heard them talking so faintly and smoothly. But what they were saying was so low and inaudible, it almost sounded like a whisper.
Rose glared at me and stomped out of the dorm. Where's curfew overseer?.
I sighed and lied back on the bed.
Sure enough, there was another death and I know very well that Rose was behind it. I felt pity for the girls discussing the matter in the bathhouse. How could they live in a school they knew so less about? It's so scary to be so ignorant about your surroundings. I felt pity for the dead girl too. I could have been the one if Amber wasn't there. I sighed and minded my business leaving them to wonder and debate.
I literally drag myself to class this morning. A part of me scolded me for becoming too lazy when our end of term exams were just around the corner.
But do I care? Nope. After all, with everything that's going on right now in this damn school, no-one will have the ability to concentrate and be attentive in class. I bumped into something really hard before I knew I was headed to the wrong direction. Wasn't I supposed to be in front of the Biology class? Great! Look where I am. I'm front of Miss Behring's office. And she was standing in front of me like a Greek goddess. I rose my head slowly to come face to face with her so beautiful smile. Her smile was blinding, it feels like she was the source of brightness around the school.
"Hailey? What a surprise to see you here?" she smiled sweetly.
"Um.... I'm... Good morning, Miss Behring." I stuttered.
"Good morning. How are you doing today?"
"G–good" I said.
"Is there something I can help you with, Miss Austen?" She smiled her voice ringing even beautiful than before.
"Um.... Um.... No problem. I'm fine." I said and felt the urge to run away from her.
I took a step back as the air blew strongly scattering my hair around me and Miss Behring became stiff.
She inhaled deeply and smiled so sweetly at me as she opened the door to her office.
I turned quickly and walked so fast to the biology class with the scene back there nauseating me.
I bumped into the class absentmindedly without even noticing the teacher standing in front of the class.
"Miss Austen, you're thirteen minutes late to my class. Are you alright?" Prof. Walter asked squinting at me through his small round lens.
"Y–yeah, yes sir. I'm fine, thanks."
I answered and walked to my seat as I felt his eyes on me.
"Hailey?" I heard Amber calling behind me. I stopped but didn't turn to face her.
"You okay? You've been off all through class." She said, concern lining her soprano voice. I remained quiet and walked on with her walking beside me. She sighed and nudged me with her elbow. I looked at her and there was a smug smile on her face as she kept raising her eyebrows at me.
I decided to ignore her but she was being so determined to ruin my sad mood. I rolled my eyes and laughed when she poked me in my ribs.
"Okay, so what's wrong upstairs?" I teased and she laughed.
"Really?" She asked and laughed harder.
"It's Brandon." She answered with a smug smile.
"So Bran—" I wanted to tease when I realised that name actually rings a bell.
"Brandon?" I asked with knitted brows.
"Yeah, you know him?" She smiled.
"Yeah I think I do." I said as I pressured my brain to remind me of this Brand......
"Oh yeah. Brandon from the woods!" I squealed snapping my fingers when I remembered the Greek god from the woods.
"From the woods huh?" She smirked.
"What's up with him?" I asked her.
"He asked to meet you tomorrow morning." She sang.
"Me? Tomorrow morning?" I asked as I ignored the happiness and joy forming behind the words.
"Yes, yes." She nodded.
"Why?" I asked keeping a confused face.
"I should go. I'll see you in Physics class." She said and was out of sight instantly. As if on queue, Lara appeared from behind the cafeteria with a very sad and agonized face.
"Lara?" I called her as I felt she was going to walk pass me without a word.
She stopped but didn't turn to look at me.
"Is everything alright?" I asked as I felt a chill in my spine upon looking at her face.
"Is anything ever alright in this cursed school?" She whispered with pain and venom as a tear trickled down her cheeks making me feel cold and sad.
"It's Katie." She finally whispered with trembling lips as more tears run down her face.
"What happened to her?" I whispered with a lot of fear and anxiety.
"Dead." She whispered so slowly, I'm not sure it was what I heard.
But I kept mute as Rose's cold glare from last night and her sharp teeth popped up in my head. I shook it off and refused the idea that Katie was the victim last night.
I felt the urge to shout and ran around the school and tell everyone that our life is in danger. Human life is in a terrible danger.
"Her parents are around. Cyndy is with them and I need to go too." She sniffed and walked away leaving me in shock and sorrow.
