{Chapter 6} Friday
Theo's words to me still hang in the balance.
Something different. Something that will last.
His sly words have constricted my thought like a snake sufficating it's meal. He said them with such confidence and conviction that it has me confused. Maybe I want something different and maybe it's not with him.
After those hypnotic words graced his lips a knock on the door was heard and we jumped apart. The principal entered the room with a smile but when she seen us together she raised a brow.
"I was just asking my cousin how his first day went, and was just leaving." I said calmly before I left the room.
Even though he's still has a spot on my hate list, it doesn't mean I was willing to get him fired on the first day. I didn't want Mr.Brinagaen to think he was having a relationship with a student. I might not like him being my teacher but him getting in trouble means that I go down with him.
I sit in the garden at our school after my classes have ended. If go home, I have to socialize with the Micheald and White families for a movie/game night and I'm not in the mood.
I lay in the grass listening to music. Half watching the clouds and half reading Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. I think about the characters in the book. How they so desperately yearn to be normal. Yet here I am living a normal life but acting as if the problems I face are more than they are.
Classes had ended a long time ago but I didn't feel like moving. It's peacefully and comfortable so I see no reason to go home.
"They sent me here to rescue you." I jumped and turned back to see Matt smiling down at me.
I just turned back to face the clouds.
"What's got you down?" He asks. He walks over to me and lays beside me. I slide over to lay on his chest.
"I'm okay. I just needed a hide out to avoid family night.
"And why is that. You love those?" He questions. I pause for me the conversation was going to fast. Not as peaceful and slow as the rest of my afternoon so I stay silent for a moment. I don't feel like smiling. I just want to feel nothing if only for a few more moments.
"Do you feel that things have changed." I feel Matt sigh above me.
"Is that what this is about?"
"No, I just want to know?" I replied slowly. He thinks for a moment and I look up at him. Observing the small scruff on his cheeks and chin. How his eyelashes streach twords the sky. The way his lips form a permanent pout.
"I feel that its different, yet I don't know why. Everyone has changed in college. Of course I talked to them while they were gone but while they were away I never detected any change. Its not their maturities. Maybe it was something that occurred to them that changed the way they think or who they are becoming. I don't know if I like it just yet but they will always be my friends. We have been through a lot together so I'm not going to let us grow apart."
I think about his words. About how he is willing to hold on to the past when things aren't the same.
"I don't think we want everything to be the same. I think we are yearning for change. We just don't know what our future will bring. We have to adapt to the presence and just remember the past." I closed my eyes by I could feel as Matt smiled above me.
"When did you become my shrink." He rapped his arms around me in a hug.
"I've missed you even though you have been by my side the whole time." He says.
