Leaving Sarah in the castle was the most difficult thing Alison had ever done.
The encouraging but sad smile Sarah had offered before her niece left was a painful strain upon her features.
Allison would hold onto that smile through her journey.
Down the stone stairs, Allison found herself in a circular, stone room that could have stood to be cleaned.
Hay scattered the floor, along with grime, and black chicken feathers.
Rum barrels sat empty next to distinct piles of little makeshift clothes and weaponry.
Geez Goblin King... couldn't stand to tidy up?
Sitting on a higher stone plank was a chair. Not just any chair.
A throne.
A grand throne crafted out of curled stone and pinned with in black drapery.
This was the throne room of Jareth.
Allison thought back to her Aunts story when she described the music that's echoed from this room and into the walls of the labrynith itself. The King's voice joyfully singing out to her dad as he danced and tossed him high in the air for his goblins to catch.
"Dance magic dance." Allison murmured quietly to herself, kicking a metal helmet as she walked by.
Picking through some of the piles, she found a worn, leather bag, and a linen cloak that looked like it could come in handy.
Slinging the bag across her chest, and draping the cloak over her shoulders, she set out for the main door.
The door was massive and wooden, secured with iron bracing and decorated with heavy looking chains.
Well, Jareth had that whole mid evil fairy tale thing going for him, she'd give him that.
Hood fully on head, she placed her hands firmly against the wood, and with a rough shove, the doors slowly swung open with a heavy groan.
The labrynith was set in a desert part of the underground.
Hot air gusted through the crack of the opening door, hitting her with its dry heat.
The goblin city.
Little clay houses with little wooden roofs, stood in wonky skyward structures casting shadows over the little market at the base.
Quickly, Ally slipped through the crack and walked in a hunch, trying to hide the obvious hight difference between herself and the goblin citizens.
The little creatures where fascinating. Small... tallest and biggest being only the size of a child.
Their skin ranged from greens to fleshy browns... all puckered and shriveled, dimpled and loose.
They cackled away through their little lives, only giving the cloaked teen no more then a sideways glance.
Then, a sickening thought hit Ally like a tun of bricks.
Where these all children?
Where all these goblins once little human children like her dad use to be?
Something knocked Allison in the back of the head with enough forces to cause pain.
Hand instinctively reaching for the wound, she spun around to face whatever had signaled her out.
A goblin standing boldly with a stone in his little hand was cackling with a group of other laughing goblins.
"Tall lanky lanky tall!" They sang together, throwing more stones, only a few reaching her person.
Allison had babysat before. These goblins where no different then children at all.
She rolled her eyes and continued walking the other way.
"Hey?! Where you goin!?" They shouted in disappointed frustration.
The first goblin who had initiated the teasing ran upon his stubby legs and jumped for Ally's cloak, retching her hood from her head.
"Hey!" She shouted, reaching for the linen, swatting the creature away.
The goblin and his buddies all starred up at her full height with dropped jaws and wide eyes.
"N-not goblin?" One asked quietly.
"Fae! Fae like kingsy!" Another chided.
Allison knelt down and waved her hands hurriedly to quiet them.
"No, no not fae... Human. Girl." She explained slow and carefully pointing to herself.
The larger goblin picked himself up from the dusty ground with a furrowed brow.
"Girl last here mess made big." He proclaimed.
Him and his buddies expressions turned grim at the memory of Sarah and her friends fighting their way through the city, destroying over half the town with boulders.
"I'm not going to make a mess. I'm just- agh!" Allison's feet got knocked out from under her, and she found herself laying back flat on the dirt ground.
In a quick fluster of dust, little clammy hands seized her arms and legs, lifting her up.
"Hey hey hey!" She shrilled, squirming against their little grasps.
The goblins commenced to dragging her parade style down the short street.
"Girl gone gone girl!" They chanted as more goblins emerged from their houses and from behind vending booths to help parade her down to the main gates.
Two archways made up the city gates. The shorter of the two being the actual gate... While the taller of the two was the lined with metals do designed for reinforcements.
Allison kicked and wriggled against them, shouting agitated threats and demands. Objects like pebbles and bits of food where being thrown by others from the windows and doorways of the residence.
"Girl out out gone!" With much effort, the little crowd of goblins punched against the big gate doors. Some even climbing on others shoulders to get proper height leverage before the gate began to crack open in a slow swing.
Just as soon as the opening was wide enough, the little hands that had held on so tight were now tossing her person out into the labrynith.
She hit the ground with an omff, rolling over just soon enough to see the gates shut, followed by the clinking sound of activated locks on the other side.
"Well that went well." She groaned, rubbing the sore spot on which she landed.
And though she was alone... she could almost hear the amused chuckles of a certain fae king.
