Chapter 12
*Frisk POV*
Turns out G and Pap's house wasn't very far from the bar. Luckily. For a man made entirely of bones, G was incredibly heavy... Not to mention, I thought he was going to hurl on me the entire walk to his place. Once we'd reached the house, Papyrus ran to unlock the door, Grillby jerking G back up to his feet after almost falling on top of me.
"Stand straight, you fool!" He ordered, holding back a laugh.
I have to admit, seeing him this gone brings me utter joy. It was funny seeing him fumble on words like a doofus and not being able to walk a straight line without having to lean on someone. Ah...How I wish I'd brought a camera down here with me.
Grillby and I help G into the house without him tripping on the steps surprisingly. Getting him to settle down though...Heh heh..Uh.. Yeah... he wasn't having it. He kept insisting that he was fine, that he could still have a few more rounds.
"I smell bullcrap, G." I mutter under my breath before letting him drop to the floor, face planting and flipping over a coffee table in attempt to catch himself. He blurts out curses and threatens the cup he knocked over that he'd fight it and it'd be sorry when it lost. My god we laughed our arses off. G can be entertaining, I kid you not.
I take a breather from laughing, plopping down on the coach, cloak off and hanging on a nail in the wall beside the door frame. Falling into the crimson cushions, I let myself think. Though, it's hard to what with all the ruckus going on in the room with Papyrus trying to maintain his dumb brother. I shut my eyes and sigh.
I couldn't help but wonder who my Guardian was...
From what I have been told so far; A guardian is like a life long body guard, someone who protects their assigned human. The human is referred to as a Vigilant...? I believe so. Still, I don't understand. I guess I can always ask Papyrus latter, or Grillby. They both seem pretty smart, surely they'd know. Another question comes to mind, totally off topic;
Where the heck did Chara float off to and why wasn't she looming over me like a crazed psycho? What was her life like before dying? IF she died, and if she wasn't just a devil on my shoulder or something. Maybe she had a guardian? I'd have to talk to her about it.
The scent of spaghetti overwhelms my senses, taking me back to friday night back home.
Spaghetti Night.
I let out a small sigh.
GOD I missed spaghetti. Let's hope I can get some here soon. I'm starving.
Someone falls onto the other end of the couch, grabbing my attention abruptly. Guess who.
A drowsy, yellow faced skeleton sits, loopy and wobbling just from taking a seat. I roll my eyes, making effort to peel them off of G. He yawns lazily, earning a snort from me.
"What? Are you tired?"
He nods and sits up straight-
Then...
He topples over to his side, head landing in my lap...
I jump nearly out of my skin while he sleeps there, not a care in the damn world. I blush deeply, frozen in place and watching him snore.
I feel my heart race, breath taken hitch.
For once he looks at peace, happy and content. But there's pain written all over him... Regret... Thoughts of what Paps had told me earlier kick in; G has been through a lot... Sleeping and drinking must be his only escape from reality... I don't have the heart to wake him yet. I wanted to see him like this for a little while longer.
It takes me a minute to loosen up. When I do I find myself easing up to the situation, I'm not angry or uncomfortable. Just... Nice. A smile greets my face, blush still stricken to my cheeks.
G positions himself in his sleep, feet kicking themselves up over the arm of the couch and face now positioned to see the ceiling when he woke up. I had to pull him up a bit so he didn't fall to the ground latter, which required I re adjusted his head too. After that he was fine and didn't need moving anymore. Phew...
"He fell asleep?"
I gasp, Grillby standing before me with a warm smile, flames flickering in curiosity. His eyes dart between me and G, letting out a chuckle. He has a seat on the coffee table, hands folded and serving as a resting place for his chin. Blue hues bounce off the walls, acting as the only light in the room, Grillby's flames continue to flicker and spark. He cocks a brow, a small smirk on his face.
"You... Don't mind his head being cradled in your lap for a little while, young one?"
I shake my head "no" slowly, in awe at the radiance he emits.
"Good. Because I would like to answer of few question for you while he is asleep. At least now he will not protest against it."
I stutter, both excited and unsure when it came to learning more about G. I was worried that I was going to be yelled at if I let something slip in the future. Then there was the thought of Grillby getting in trouble... I wouldn't allow that. Guilt would rip me apart from the inside out if I had.
I wave my hands in front of me vigorously, reassuring him as I whisper shout, "Oh no! Please don't put yourself in that position! I-If he wanted me to know things he'd-"
"He won't be speaking up for a while yet, child. Believe me when I say that he isn't exactly an open book either."
"I...I know.. But I don't want to overstep my boundaries..."
He sighs, rubbing his neck. The only sound left in the room is the hushed roar of flames and G's snores. Snapping his fingers, Grillby points at me happily.
"Then how about this; If I answer a question from you, you will answer one of my curiosities. How is that?"
I begin to piece it together... So he's pulling the old trade of information card... Hm. I thought about it thoroughly before complying. "Alright... You ask first."
Grillby pounders for a second, rubbing his chin before leaning over, elbows on knees.
"What has brought you here? To the Underground and here with us currently, I mean."
My answer came quicker than expected, not putting much thought into it.
"I came from a human family but was outcasted for having a soul. I found that my parents were going to drop me off somewhere so I..."
I slowed down, taking a deep breath.
"So. I ran until I got tired. I rested for a bit, then started running again at the sound of gunshots. Along the way I fell down a hole and ended up Underground... G was the first monster I had met, he saved me from a talking flower.-"
"A talking flower?" He interupts, seeming skeptical and more or less taken aback. Of course it sounds crazy to him. If I hadn't of seen it myself I'd be in disbelief, too.
I nod and brush off his reaction. "It's a long story. But anyways... After a certain predicament with this bonehead, he led me to a kind women in the ruins. She housed us for a day or so and sent me on my way here with G. He's..Supposed to lead me to the capital... I'm supposed to find my Guardian there."
He sits upright, eyes widened and flames growing larger, brighter, blinding for a second. He looked so intrigued, interested.
"I knew you were a special one, from the moment you entered town I could feel it. A magic beyond any man of this world. A Vigilant."
He tsks, shaking his head, flames a deeper aqua color, dimmer. A look of disapproval in his expression.
"To think that is the reason that had back at my bar lashed out. You poor dear... Such savages live among us..."
When he looked up... I swear my heart swelled. Such care was in his eyes... A fatherly one I had not felt in years. I choke on it. Overwhelmed. I can see how he'd be a wonderful stand in dad for G and papyrus. Which brought me to further question...
"Grillby?"
"Yes, Frisk?"
"Erm... What... What happened to make you a stand in? Ah.. I mean. What happened to G's original dad? If you don't mind my asking that is."
His flames dim again. "Ah..."
He runs a hand through his flamed hair, taking in a deep breath. Did I ask the wrong question? Did I offend him? Please don't tell me I screwed up again.
Grillby takes in another breath before speaking in a hushed, soft tone. One of solemn and recognition. "Now this. I would not bring up during the rest of your journey. Understand, Frisk? G will surely have your head and mine."
As if on cue, G's tosses over in his sleep, facing my stomach. I look down at him, still at peace and filling me with unfamiliar butterflies and happiness. If...If bringing anything I am about to hear will upset him.. I won't. Not on my life. Not if it means demolishing that smile. I place a hand on his skull and look back up at Grillby, determination in my mood and drowning out my mind's logic before it can take over what I say.
"I promise I won't, not if it upsets him."
I find a blush dusting my cheeks again but act like I don't care. Grillby nods, continuing on with his story. I had a feeling right away that this wouldn't be like G's bar fight tales. I brace myself for what was to come. What I would soon learn... Would be everything but what I had expected.
"You see, young one... G was not always... G. Yes, he's always been a bit of a flirt, he's alway been rowdy and wild. But there was a time when he was kind hearted, he was thoughtful and fun. Like a child in a young man's body. A child in a young man's body with a different name. He and Papyrus used to live with their father; A very smart man who worked for the royal family.
Being so close to royalty, Papyrus had a chance to train for the royal guard. But G was neither interested in being a guard or in his father's work. Instead, he had grown especially close to none other than the prince of monsters; Prince Asriel Dreemurr.
The two troublesome boys had been inseparable from a young age, brothers almost."
I gawk at what I am hearing. G was best friends with a prince? Instead of asking questions I urge for Grillby to continue.
"Well, one day a human fell into the underground. After some time, the two, Asriel and they, ended up being bonded together by the Guardian contract, binding them closer as siblings.
Well, this also meant that Asriel proudly let his new sibling a company he and G whenever she pleased."
He stops, chuckling the next part.
"She was the first girl G had fallen in love with."
I jolt and look down at G, then back to Grillby. "Really? Where is she now? Are they married?"
I was so curious, so interested with G's life that I was hungry to learn more. Though.. For some reason this subject burnt a hole in me.
"Slow down young one, please let me finish."
I shut up and he continues.
"Anyways... G and this girl were absolutely mad for one another. Thus, they became young lovers; Or a couple as they call young loves now a days."
I let go of a breath I had been holding in.
"But."
I hold my breath again.
"The human had became ill minded in one way or another... Resulting in a terrible accident."
He uses his hands, doing the motions of his words. " In the dead of night, G had received a letter to meet her in what is known as the "Judgement Hall". Of course, he went there. But not for a friendly conversation with the girl, no. From what G had told me... The young Vigilant had slaughtered her own Guardian, Asriel."
I feel a lump in my throat and tears well up in me. "His blood and sliced off horns scattering, covering the Judgment floors in a deep red. G had walked in just as the act was being committed... He...*ahem* Watched her murder his brother...So to say... "
I could feel my vision blur, the images appearing in my mind as if I were there. I could hear a familiar scream, yelling and maniacal laughter. The lights and flashes of blue auras and the clangs of scythes and knives clashing.
"As a result, G had went into a rage against the demon, and killed her, spilling her veins into the royal guardian were she was buried along with our late prince-"
He stops talking, looking up at me, eyes widening. "Frisk, why are you crying?"
I feel my cheek, tears the size of bullets were rolling down them, but I don't know why. It didn't feel like they were even mine...
But all I could see was the image of slicing a girls head off, crying in her pool of blood surrounded by golden flowers. It was so real......
It was like I was the one who's heart was aching. It's miserable.
