Chapter 28

Luke's POV

Life had been crazy ever since I left New York. Christina was pretty busy too. She was about to graduate from high school and she had this big dance gig coming up in a week. She was excited about it and I had promised her I would be there. But being a week away now I was sure I was not going to make it. We had a lot of recording to do, still, and we had a lot of shows. And there was an upcoming tour. We didn't have any spare time and it was weighing on me and Chris. We talked a lot less than we did in the beginning and she was always tired when we did talk, as was I. The boys pushed me to call her and Skype her, but sometimes I just didn't feel like it. And to be honest, I got the feeling Chris didn't feel like calling or skyping too. She happened to 'forget' it quite often.

"Whatcha thinking of?" Calum asked me.

"Chris", was my simple reply.

"That again.. Dude, you need to get out of this funk," he told me while slapping my arm.

"I know. But I don't know what to do anymore," I sighed.

"You know what you have to do, but you just won't face it," was all he said before leaving me in my thoughts.

Christina's POV

"You ready to dance?" Jamie asked me with a lot of enthusiasm.

"Of course I am!"

He took my hand and pulled me into the view of other people. We had been practicing for weeks and now was the time to do our little flashmobs. Ari was doing the sound so when we came into view she put on Conor Maynard. We chose 'R U Crazy' because it was such a catchy song. We started on the intro and were going to dance until the first chorus passed. Jamie knew me so well and just danced around me as I did the same with him. We were dressed in all black and people were stopping now to look at us. They seemed very interested. Some were even giving us money. I laughed and just looked at Jamie while dancing. He seemed to be thinking the exact same thing. Some were now clapping and I didn't want to stop but I had to. Jamie caught me in his arms as we had agreed on. The music stopped and Jamie started talking.

"If you liked this, you should come to our show next week! That girl over there", and he was pointing at Ari, "had flyers! It's free!" He said.

A lot of people went to Ari and asked for a flyer. If even a fraction of those people came it would awesome. This was what we were born to do. Ari seemed very pleased with herself.

"WOW man!" was all I could say.

"I KNOW!" Jamie screamed back.

We just looked at each other and smiled. We loved doing this so much. He put an arm around my shoulder and walked back to the studio. We would being the same dance again in 2 hours. On a different place of course.

"So, you wanna catch a coffee?" Jamie asked me while removing his arm.

"I have to go to my appartment. Stella is alone now and I hate it when she is for too long", I told him.

My real parents had given me an appartment to live in because they wanted to make up for all the years of loss. Theirs was directly above mine and it was really nice and big. My adoptive parents didn't object because they knew how much I needed my space. They did visit every week which was really nice too. And Stella was my dog. She was a Pomsky. Which happened to be a miniature Husky. She was the cutest thing ever. When I found her on the streets she was all alone just like me and I found a companion. She followed me back home and never left again. I named her Stella because it's my favourite song by All Time Low. And she seemed to like it. But she was a work of art. She had such a personality. Perfect for me.

"I can come with you?" he suggested.

Jamie was trying to come home with me for 2 weeks now. Ever since Luke left town. I always turned him down because I really was in love with Luke. And I knew if I let Jamie come with me he would get his hopes up. Which was not my intention. I wanted him to be my friend and nothing more, but he still seemed to want more.

"Nah, I'll see ya in an hour! My place is such a mess!" I lied. My place was so clean.

"Okay, I guess", he said while moving forward to the studio. I turned left and walked home.

On my way home I passed a coffee shop and took some hot chocolate with me. For some reason I was cold. I felt a crowd coming toward me. I looked around and saw a guy in all black coming for me. I didn't know who he was until he was close enough. There were a lot of girls following him.

"I need to talk to you", Conor Maynard said to me in his thick british accent. "Can we talk somewhere private?"

"Uhm, yea, my appartment is just around the corner", I told him, a bit stunned.

"Okay, let's go then", he said while grabbing my arm and pulling me round the corner.

I opened the door downstairs and went to the elevator. He was just behind me. The elevator was quick and we went up. I could feel the impatience radiating off him.

"Are we there yet?" he asked me.

"Yeah, just one more floor", I told him, a bit annoyed.

When we got out I went for my door and he pushed passed me inside.

"Wow, man. This is still my place! Why are you being a jerk?" I yelled at him.

"I'm terribly sorry! But these fans are driving me crazy. I can't go anywhere without them. I just don't want them connecting us for your sake."

"Uhm, why are you even here?"

"Well, I saw you dance half an hour back. To my song?"

Stella came running towards me and jumped on me. I picked her up and kissed her little head. She just licked my face a thousand times and then she saw Conor. She was begging me to put her down and so I did. She ran towards him before she was even on the ground.

"Oh yes, did you seriously see us?" I asked him, still stunned.

"Yeah, wow, you have to cutest dog ever. What's her name?"

"Stella", I told him.

"What's your name?"

"I'm Christina!"

"Have I seen you before?" he asked me, still holding on to Stella.

"We haven't met if that's what you're asking!"

"Wait! You're dating that Luke guy from 5sos don't you?"

"Yeah, that's me!"

He sat down on my couch, without my permission. I guess he was used to doing this.

"So why are you here?" I asked him after 5 more minutes.

"Oh, yeah. I saw you dancing and I'm planning on coming to your concert. And I want to see if the others are as good as you and that guy! Because I want you guys to come on tour with me!" he told me.

"Wait, what??" I was so startled.

"You heard me", he told me while raising his eyebrown and smiled at me.

I looked around to see if this all was real. I was sure I was dreaming. This could not be true, at all.

"Are you serious?" I asked him again.

"Yeah, so I'll see you in a week?" he asked me while walking to the door.

"I guess, yeah", I said while my mouth was hanging open.

"And do bring that adorable dog of yours!" he said while walking out of my door.

Life sure had gotten different from what it was a month ago.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christina's POV

So Conor wanted to see our dance group. What the hell was happening with this world? How did these things happen? Did dating Luke open doors for me? It was wrong for me think this way. I would never use Luke to get things done. He meant a lot to me. Too much. Luke being away had been so hard. Missing him was so painful. And I didn't even know if he felt the same way anymore. We hadn't really talked this week. He didn't even respond to my messages anymore. And I knew when they had their breaks because Mikey would call me. He did keep me updated on Luke when I didn't know what was going on. Life was not fair. That was the only thing I knew at this point.

I decided to go for a walk with Stella. New York always seemed to calm my nerves. And this was just by walking. My walk wasn't that eventful. I went to a park nearby and just sat there on a bench. I could see kids playing on a playground and the sun was shining really bright. Every teenager who didn't have school was out here. The weather in May was always amazing. But the sun didn't seem to shine so bright anymore. And I know I'm sounding like a lovesick puppy, but it was all because he was on the other side of the country. We couldn't be farther apart in this country. I knew it was his job. But that didn't give him an excuse for not calling me or not responding to anything that I send him. I was getting really pissed off. Normally I got really relaxed from sitting in a park, but this time was different. I thought about all the chances he had had the pas days to just text me back saying he's busy. But no. Even that was way too much for him to do. I hated not knowing anything about this. I didn't even know where our relationship was going. And my concert was in a week or so. Was he still coming to see me? Would he have time? This was so fucked up. I was so mad. I decided to call Mikey. But his call went directly to voicemail. Then I did the same with Ash, and yet again I got his voicemail. At last I tried Cal, but here again I had voicemail. What was going on? Were they all cutting me out of their lives? I decided to give Luke a call.

One ring..

Two rings..

Three rings..

"Your call has been redirected to voicemail. If you want to leave a.." That's when I ended my call.

At least his phone was on. I was just hoping he would see it was me and call me back. I was panicking a little. I didn't want to loose these guys. They had become such good friend. They were all I ever wished for and now they were gone. Really, life wasn't fair at this moment.. Was it ever going to be? With all the shit I had been going through with my families.. It was all getting a little too much. I still wasn't over that shit too..

Just because I had talked with both my families didn't mean I was ready to move on. I needed time. It had only been three weeks or so. Some people need a whole lifetime to deal with this. And I was going to forgive them all at one point. Just not now. And the school year was coming to an end. I had to choose a university for next year. Both NYU and UCLA wanted me. I didn't know which one to choose. They were both so good. But choosing UCLA would mean some time away from one of my families to wrap my head around everything. And wasn't a fresh start everything I had always wanted?

Finally I got a call back. Ashton was the first to contact me.

"Hey, what's going on?" he asked me, all concern.

"Nothing, I just wanted to talk to someone and no one was picking up his phone.." I told him, a little sad undertone was coming through. I didn't want to seem desperate.

"I'm so sorry! And Michael is too! We were filming a music videa and had to turn our phones off.." he apologised. I heard Michael's voice in the background.

"It's nothing, I hope you guys had fun!" I tell him, trying to banish that sad undertone.

"So what did you want to talk about?" he asked me, still a little worried.

"Oh, it's nothing, I'm over it now! How's Luke?"

"Uhm.. You wanna talk to him?" I hear concern in his voice.

"Only if he wants to.."

"Here he is", I hear Ash say as he passes the phone to Luke.

This was the first time on a week I would be hearing his voice.

"Hey babe", I hear him say.

His voice is the same as always. He still has his amazing Australian accent, the one I love the most in this whole damn world.

"Hey honey", I reply, dryly.

"How've you been?" he seems to be a little interested in what I'm feeling.

"I've been okay.." miserable, was what I wanted to say.

"That's good to hear! I miss you!" he yells into the reciever.

"Miss you too!" I yell back. Feeling a little better than before.

"I'm sorry I've not been answering my phone, but it's been really crazy around here.. And I have the worst reception ever! The others don't seem to have it, but my shitty as sim card is really busted! I'm gonna buy a new one tomorrow and text you first! Okay baby?" he tells me. I feel a lot better than before.

"I was beginning to think you were avoiding me.." I tell him the truth. I would not be able to lie to him.

"I would never do such a thing!" he tells me with a little laugh. I didn't know what to think of that. "But we really have to go now babe! Talk to ya tomorrow!" he tells me and then cuts off the line.

What the hell just happened? I was in such a shock. I didn't know what to make of this whole conversation. Did I really buy all the things he was saying? Or was I going to be the suspicious girlfriend who questions everything her boyfriend is doing across the country? I didn't want to be that way. But I couldn't help myself. I wanted to check in on what he was doing. I wanted to see if he was doing alright and if his phone really didn't have any reception, like was claiming. I really didn't know what to think.

I took Stella home, to rethink this all. This park was not doing any wonders for me. So I could as well go back to my appartment. This was going to be a long ass day where I think about every word that has been exchanged between me and Luke.
