Chapter 35
Christina's POV
Practise was.. awkward.. That was least I could say about it. Conor had been trying to make eyecontact with me all day. It was so stupid of me to kiss him goodnight. What the hell had I been thinking? I needed to get away from here for some time. That's when I decided to take a stroll around the city. We were in Florida, Miami to be exact. It was nice and warm out here. I had to be back soon for the concert, but I needed some me time. I decided to find a Starbucks. I needed my fix. It had been way too long. It had been since Luke and I broke up. Every Starbucks reminded me of him. And it had hurt the first time I tried. But now I had to do it. I didn't care about it. Of course I cared about Luke and all that, but this needed to stop. I needed to start living again.
The moment I stepped inside memories rushed back. But this wasn't the same setting, not even close. Still I saw us sitting on a table in the corner. Thinking about how he kissed me that one day before they had to leave for LA. I remembered how he couldn't keep it inside. I remembered how good it felt, how natural. Tears sprung into my eyes and I almost wanted to run out of there. But there was someone waving at me. Asking if I was okay. I blinked the tears away and looked at the person directly.
"Are you okay?" he asked me again.
I was staring at green eyes and brown hair. His hair was short and his eyes bright. They were so full of concern.
"Sorry, just.. bad memories I guess.." I told him.
"Can I get you something?" he asked me with a slight encouraging smile.
"No, I just need to sit down, sorry for worrying you", I told him again and gestured at the table beside me.
"I'm Will by the way!" he said while he stuck out his hand.
I grabbed his hand and shook it.
"Christina! Nice to meet you!" I said with a bigger smile.
He sat down next to me and wanted to start a conversation.
"I just want to make sure you're alright and you don't go fainting here in Starbucks.." he said while putting up a smile again.
"Yeah.. I'm sorry if I gave that impression.. It's just.. I don't have good memories in Starbucks, or should I say: I have too many good memories that are no good to me now anymore.."
Why was I telling Will this..
"Ahh, I know what you mean.. I'm sorry. You probably don't want to sit here with some random stranger.." he said while getting up.
"You don't have to go.. I still have some time before I have to get back and I really could use the company to keep me distracted." That was his cue to get back down.
And he did. He sat next to me and ordered a coffee for us both. Mine with extra cream and some honey. I loved that. And we just talked. It had been a while since I'd been able to do that with someone besides Michael. We sat there for an hour or so. Then I realised I needed to get back, soon.
"I have to get back.." I told him while smiling at him.
"Can I walk you back?" he asked me.
"Yeah, why not.. It's not like we're complete strangers now!" I told him while swatting on his arm.
We walked out of Starbucks together and I had to say I hadn't thought about Luke for an hour. And it felt good for a change.
"So, you're not from around here?" he asked me as we walked along.
"Nope! I come from New York.." I said while turning to face him while we were walking.
"Oh! Why the hell are you here?" he exclaimed in surprise.
"I'm kinda on Conor Maynard's show as a dancer.."
"NO WAY!" he yells.
People were staring now.
"YES WAY!" I scream back.
"Wow, you've made it big!"
"Yeah.. I'm going to LA next week!"
"I'm from LA. I'm going back next week!" he winks at me.
No way this was happening.
"You, like, wanna meet up when you get there?" he asked me a little bit shy.
He had been confident the whole way, but now he was blushing and I was liking it. He looked so amazing. And he was a good talked. He was the only one back there who was concerned. And he looked cute, okay.
"Yeah, why not?" I told him and his smile grew wider and wider.
"So, let's exchange numbers?" he started giving me his phone.
"Yeah! Here you go!" I gave him mine and we punched in our cell phone numbers.
This felt good, right for a change.
"Well, this is it", I said in front of my hotel.
"Wow, you're staying in such a nice hotel!" he said softly.
"Yeah, courtesy of Conor!"
"So, uhm.. Bye?" he said while standing there awkwardly.
"Yeah! Bye!" I said while giving him a little hug.
He relaxed instantly. Like he had been waiting for it. And he hugged me back. Then he turned around, gave me another smile and was gone.
I walked inside the building and looked around. Everything looked a bit brighter. And I smiled a bit brighter. Taking that walk was the best thing I had done in ages. I stepped inside the elevator. I pushed the button of my floor. And on I went. I was smiling and I got a text.
"Don't forget about me okay?" he texted me. I instantly knew who it was.
I smiled a little wider now, if that was even possible. When I got to our room I just missed Stella so much. But she was with my 'real' parents in LA already. I had decided to go to UCLA and to stay in LA. That was the place I needed to be for now. And I already had an apartment and Stella was there. I missed that dog soo much. It was unbearable. But I couldn't skype now. I really had to get ready..
"Oh, you're finally here!" Rachel yelled. "Where the hell have you been?"
"Being a teenager! And I went to Starbucks.." She looked at me funny.
She had been there the last time I had tried to go inside a Starbucks. She had seen the tears in my eyes and heard my pleas to get me away from there. The look on her face said it all. The fact that I wasn't crying here meant I had overcome my irrational fear of Starbucks.
"You did it?" she asked me, still eyeing me.
"Yes.. I almost cried and fainted, but I did it. Not without some help.."
"Oh? Who helped you?"
"Will.."
"Will who?" she gave me that look.
"He's a guy I met at Starbucks. He saw I was about to faint and asked me if I was okay. And he stayed with me for the rest of the hour.." I rolled my eyes at her.
"Oh, wow! A boy! Did you, like, exchange numbers?" she snooped.
"Yeah.. He's actually from LA.. He wants me to call him when we get there.." I told her with a wink.
"Have you been flirting with this guy??" her expression was shocked.
"YES!"
Then we jumped and screamed together. "So this means.. You're over.. him.." she asked me, hesitantly.
"No, it's still here.. The pain is part of me now. But I need to get over it.." I told her with a sad smile.
Thinking about Luke always made me sad. It made me sad because of all the things we could've had together. Like an amazing summer. But it was all wasted away now. I had had another some of a lifetime. I had a summer with my best friend and I spent it dancing! What could be better? Of course, a summer with Luke and the guys would've been better.. But it was all over now.
"I'm glad to see you're actually trying something new.." she told me before hugging me. "But now we need to get ready and get our asses to that stadium!"
And so we did. We got ready and sprinted for the elevator. We ran outside to catch a cab and we told him to step on it. We made it just in time before the show. We still needed to map some things out. And I got to work. I lead this group of dancers. They were my responsibility. I had to do everything around here.
"This all ends next week huh.." I heard Jaimy say behind me.
"Yeah.. It's so weird.. I have become used to this."
"I'm gonna miss it.." he told me.
Lately we got along better than we ever did. I think it was because all the sexual tension was gone now. And he wasn't jealous anymore. Our dancing had improved too. It was amazing to dance with him now. But his girlfriend got jealous a lot. I guess she was just like him.
"I'm gonna miss you too.. Heard you were staying in LA.." he said while giving me sad eyes.
"Yeah, I got in to UCLA and I'm thinking a change will be good for me. Plus I love the sun!" I gave him a smile.
He couldn't resist and smiled with me. "Yes you do."
This was all getting a bit nostalgic. I was so happy to have these friends. They meant so much to me! But I had to start a life for myself. Even Sarah was coming to LA. We were going to UCLA together. We were even going to share the apartment. She was the best.
"We have to nail this tonight!" I told him, swatting his arm.
"Don't we do that every night?" he looked offended.
"Yes we do", I grinned.
He grinned back. "You're such a cute little kitten!" he screamed before he ran away from me.
"Jaimy!! Get back here you bastard!" I ran after him.
On my way in finding him I bumped in to someone. It was his girlfriend.
"Oh, sorry! I was looking for Jaimy!" I told her.
She didn't look amused. She looked angry even. I saw Jaimy appearing behind her. He lifted his shoulders at me and she just looked really mad.
"This thing between you has to stop okay?" she told me.
"Excuse me?" I almost choked.
"I see the way you look at him. Get your own!" she screamed.
Shit just got real.
"Uhm, lady. I have zero interest in your boyfriend! He's just one of my best friends. I've known him for many years, so don't tell me what I can and can't do!" I scream back. I was getting mad.
"Angela, stop this.." Jaimy said. "She's my best friend in the world. She would never want to date me.. She made that pretty clear." He laughed and put a hand in his neck.
"Oh, so you wanted to date her?" she asked him.
Ah, man. He just had to talk.
"No! I mean, maybe in the beginning. But we're more brother and sister than anyting else!" he told her. I think he was making it even worse.
"I'm not done with you", she told me before running off.
"Man, you made things even worse!" I yelled at him.
He just laughed and went after her. He was hooked. She was really being a bitch, but he liked her, so I tolorated her. She really saw me as a threat. I was really enjoying this. I had made it very clear from the beginning me and Jaimy were never ever getting into something. He knew that, it didn't stop him, but still he knew.
This day was getting weirder and weirder. I jus needed to go on stage and shake this off. Our names got called and we all got on stage. When we started dancing everything was magic. Conor sang amazing, as usual. And we were all at our best. And so it went for every show until we were in LA. It had been a long time coming. But I was where I needed to be.
