Chapter 17~Double cross

^Roaring Twenty's—Panic! At the disco^
Chapter Seventeen~Double cross

I don't answer, just immediately jumped off the table as Tazan reaches out to grab me. I weaved around his feet and down the stairs, feeling the thump of Carlos and Tazan followed me, Iggy following from the air.

Once my paws hit the sand I didn't stop running, weaving around table legs and ducking under aliens feet.

Iggy had to stop flying and jogged after me, his red eyes scanning the tent for the exit. Carlos was doing the same, but running beside me. He suddenly pointed with his tail to the left. "The exit!" He exclaimed.

I swerved to the left and finally saw the dark hole against the white walls. I put on a burst of speed, my eyes zoning in as I broke out from under the cubicles.

I was so focused I didn't notice T'Cap a few feet from the exit, holding a cube. I ran beneath him and he threw the cube at me.

It suddenly expanded into a net, engulfing me in it as I yowled, my eyes widening as I realized I had been caught. I twisted, my claws getting caught in the ropes.

I twisted around to see T'Cap looking at me with an evil smile, Carlos slowly trotting out from beneath the cubicle tables, his head low.

"Carlos!" I yowled, struggling against my bonds. Some of them tore, but more always came to replace them, getting tangled up even more. "Run! Quickly!"

But Carlos ignored me, not meeting my eyes as he stopped beside T'Cap. T'Cap bent down held his arm out and Carlos hopped delicately onto his wrist. T'Cap straightened, Carlos almost falling off.

"Carlos! What are you..." I trailed off, my voice slowly dying as I watched what they did next.

T'Cap handed Carlos a small treat sort of thing, saying, "good work." He pressed a button on his jacket cuff. The exit behind me slowly flickered away. A hologram.

My eyes stretched wide, suddenly stopping struggling as I came to a conclusion. "You—you little fur ball!" I spat, my eyes burning with rage.

Carlos looked at me sympathetically. "I'm sorry. All those tests on me he figured out we were smarter then we seemed. He knows we can...mind link him."

My fur bristled, and I clawed at the net around me, ripping a few more strands. "Then let him hear this!"

I stared straight at T'Cap's smug face and shouted in my mind at him, "next time you won't be getting off with just a bite and a few scratches!"

It was obviously loud because he stumbled, almost dislodging Carlos. But he regained himself with a superior look. "There won't be a next time, you annoying ball of fur. Just keep clawing at that net kitty cat, the authorities will be here soon."

I spat at him, stopping struggling to assess my situation. The rope coiled around me, letting me see bits and pieces of the outside world. I rolled over and tried clawing my way out, but it just got snagged in my claws. I huffed and sat up again as much as I could.

My best bet for now was when the "authority's" show up, I'll just act cute and try to get off the hook.

I just came to that conclusion when a screeching drew my eyes over to T'Cap. A giant hawk had seemed to flown into his face, and was clawing at his eyes as T'Cap screamed and tried to cover his face. Carlos was no where to be seen.

The hawk was beautiful though. It was the biggest hawk I had ever seen, with huge talons and a curved yellow beak and black beady eyes. It's feathers were white, and the tips of his wings were black, and when it moved, shimmers of blue and black were seen under the feathers.

I sighed at how convenient this situation would be if I could actually get out of this net. I silently watched as T'Cap slowly got beaten, his eyes bleeding badly as he cupped his hands over them. The hawk seemed to have given up and screeched one last time before it flew back up towards the floating island.

I watched it go, then turned back to T'Cap. My whiskers twitched in amusement, feeling as if he deserved that.

Abruptly, I toppled over as something tumbled into me. I flung out my paws for balance as the thing landed on my back, adding to the weight of the ropes. I twisted around and recognized Iggy's red eyes.

"Iggy!" I wheezed from his weight.

"Sorry, sorry," he muttered, and his paws fumbled with something. The ropes abruptly got sucked away, leaving the cube T'Cap had before.

I sat up and shook my fur out and peered at it. I sniffed it as Iggy explained, "I managed to press the tiny button making the ropes recede."

I nodded stiffly, glancing back at T'Cap. "Alright, quickly, find the exit and let's go." I padded away quickly, having used most of my energy running and trying to claw at the net.

Iggy followed behind me, his gaze swivelling around. "What about Carlos?" He asked, his gaze landing on me.

My steps faltered as I remembered what he had done. "He..." I continued walking. "He won't be joining us." I spat the last sentence, starting to pick up the pace once we were under the tables.

I heard shuffling and glanced over my shoulder to see T'Cap trying to get up. Most of the animals who had escaped had left, along with the aliens. The place seemed empty.

I noticed that Iggy almost seemed to perk up at this news. His pawsteps seemed to bounce more. His tail was up and he caught up to trot beside me.

"I think the exit is this way." He nudged me over and I saw the actual exit.

I moved quicker, my eyes scanning to see if anyone was standing near like last time.

I stopped when a black shape slinked out from behind a table leg. His eyes were downcast and he avoided me eyes. My fur started bristling.

I took a step forward towards him. "Carlos, I am giving you five seconds to move your furry butt before I make you." He was standing between us and the exit, and he knew it.

Carlos sighed and took a few steps forward. "Fern, please. It wasn't my fault."

I drew my lips back in a snarl. "You could've ran away. But you helped him capture me. I'm done with you." I turned to side-step around him, but he stepped in my way again.

"I had no choice, I was—" he tried to explain, his tail lashing.

I hissed at him. "I am done with your excuses."

Carlos's fur began to bristle. "Maybe listen for once, use those ears of yours."

I snarled, taking a step closer. "Maybe you should stop making up excuses and just get out of our way, or I'll make you." Iggy took a step back, lowering his head.

Carlos planted his paws into the sand. "Make me." He bared his teeth.

"Your choice." I hissed. I crouched, then pounced on him. We rolled across the ground, claws unsheathed, yowling.

He pinned me, his teeth latching onto my neck. I had a moment of panic as I realized he was actually trying to kill me. But then it passed and I raked my claws at his stomach.

He let my neck go, hissing. I pushed him off, my neck stinging with pain. I lashed a claw out and caught his ear, leaving a large tear.

He was bleeding much more, long scratches down his stomach and tufts of fur hanging from his shoulder. His ear was torn, blood running into his eye. My shoulders were a bit scratched and claw marks ran down my flank.

I panted and circled around him as Carlos mirrored my actions. My tail flicked to Iggy, telling him to get out of here.

But his round eyes stayed fixated on the exit, not noticing my signal.

"The authorities! Their here!"
