Chapter 18~Escaping

^Dancing is not a crime—Panic! At the Disco^
Chapter Eighteen~Escaping
I whipped around, seeing the exit suddenly blocked by large black figures. I couldn't see any skin at all, all covered in black. It looks like they were wearing gas masks, with black hoods and thick, black protective gloves and boots. They had chain mail on their legs and upper body, and it looked like a bullet proof vest over the chain mail as well. They had large nets strapped to their back, and it looked like two pairs of guns strapped to their belts.

My first thought was why they were wearing so much protection, but I also realized that some of the animals here, in this alien world were much more dangerous then the human world. This brought on a twinge of home sickness, but I pushed it away.

There was six men in total, two blocking the door while the other four patrolled the room, a gun in each hand. I hoped they were just tasers...

I looked at my companions. Iggy was frozen, his eyes glued on the figures at the doorway, my image a mirror of his. Carlos was turning to watch them all, his eyes thoughtful. The next second he was trotting out from under the table, mewing loudly.

The figures whipped towards him, aiming their guns. But they stopped when they took in his appearance, and slowly approached him. He mewed pitifully.

His tail waved, and it turned and swung to the left. He turned and looked at me out of the corner of his eye and didn't the gesture again as the black figures crowded around him, speaking in a language I didn't understand.

I blinked slowly, my brain finally registering what he was trying to say. I turned my head and scanned the the tent walls to the left.

There. In the wall, the tent wasn't properly held together, and a corner was sticking out, large enough for Iggy and I to dig through. I silently thanked him, then kicked my brain and body into gear again.

I turned to Iggy and pushed him forward. He seemed to get the message and slowly trod forward. "Iggy." I hissed. "Faster. Follow me."

He slowly nodded, the blinked, his eyes going back into focus. I swung around and bounded towards the open flap. There was a little run where we were unsheltered, the tables stopping. But I sprinted on quickly.

I could still hear the distant murmuring of the foreign language, so the authorities were busy with Carlos. I neared the flap.

I turned to push Iggy through first, his dark grey pelt looking ragged. I glanced over my shoulder one last time, before plunging through after Iggy.

Light flooded my eyes and I blinked, adjusting. The light dimmed and I looked around.

We were in a city.
We were standing on a sidewalk, what looked like a road just ahead of us. Circular, hovering vehicles hummed along the five lane road. They hovered at least five feet off the ground, and they were all a strikingly bright neon colour. I couldn't see inside.

The sidewalk stretched as far as the eye could see on either side of us, bustling with aliens, mostly all like Tazan. Feet nearly stomped on us, but none of them seemed to notice us.

Buildings were along the sidewalk, and across the large road I could see something that looked like a park. It was a lush forest, a gravel trail disappearing into the woods.

Both Iggy and I were frozen for a few moments, taking in our surroundings. It was obvious he had never been outside, and the endless blue sky seemed to startle him.

Then both our brains kicked into action and we looked at each other. "We need to get to the park."

"Yes, but how?" I asked, moving out of the way as an alien boot landed uncomfortably close.

"First, lets get away from this." Iggy flicked his tail at the flap behind us we had just used. I quickly agreed.

Iggy led us down the sidewalk, weaving through the crowd as the aliens more-or-less ignored us. I almost got trampled by a tall alien women with heels.

Iggy stopped under a metal bench to the edge of the sidewalk, a few aliens occupying it. I squeezed in after him.

"Park." Iggy repeated, peering between the legs to the distant park ahead of us, seemingly impossible to reach.

We both fell silent, thinking. I watched the crowd move along, a distant whirring getting louder and louder.

"What is that?" I complained, leaning out. A box, an ordinary cardboard box, was floating a foot of the ground, moving through the crowd. "That's making the noise?" I asked in disbelief.

"Let's Follow it!" Iggy cried, bursting from under the bench to bound after the box.

Seeing no point but following anyway, I squeezed out from under the bench and followed him.

The box abruptly stopped. It turned, then went to the edge of the sidewalk, right onto the road.

Iggy stopped on the curb, watching it as a hovering vehicle came speeding towards it. The box kept on going, and the vehicle curved up to avoid hitting it, then continued on its way.

Iggy's eyes widened in surprise, then without thinking he dashed after it, crying, "we could take cover behind it!"

I just caught a few of those words, but I didn't have much of a choice of whether or not I was coming. I dashed after him, catching up to the box as it entered the third lane.

The vehicles approaching the box just kept curving up to avoid it, so we stuck right to its tail. We neared the other side of the road,

I hopped up onto the curb, the box ahead of me veering onto the gravel path and heading towards the woods.

I turned to Iggy. "Great thinking!" I purred. My paws pricked with relief, glad we were able to find a safe way to cross.

Iggy purred back. "All in a days work!" He mewed jokingly.
