CASSIDY
"So, Logan. . . I remember that time when me and Cassy went to your place. That wasn't the first time you had met each other as eighteen year olds, am I correct?" mom questions eagerly.
"Well, funny story actually. I picked up her iPad from the last day of class, and then we saw each other at the mall," he replies. Mom gives me a why didn't you tell me any of this look before smiling back at Logan.
"Hm. It's like a real life fairytale," my mother ponders loudly, giving us amused glances.
"Don't say anything embarrassing for the rest of the night, mom," I groan, not knowing what wacky thing might come out of her mouth again.
"Oh please honey, you know I'm not the typical mother who says things that will scar their daughters' reputation forever, right?" she asks sweetly. I brush her question away and plan on bringing up a different topic.
"Mom, you know how Logan and Gavin were here because they needed help with English?" mom nods curtly and implies me to continue.
"Well, we have this reaction paper in English, and they need help with that. They haven't read Les Misérables, and have been asking me to help them, but I quizzed them about some important details, and they know it all, so I think they just went here to bug me," I say innocently, batting my eyelashes.
An intrigued grin forms on her face, as she looks at the boys in some sort of unknown language.
"Good thing your dad isn't here," she chuckles lightly. I look at Logan and Gavin, faces as pale as a ghost.
"I have no idea of what's going on, so I'm just going upstairs," I say, drinking my water and getting up my chair. We haven't been eating anymore, my mother has just been pressing various questions so this doesn't come off any bit as rude.
Like any other night, I go online and respond to the countless messages on my phone, before concentrating directly on a new profile that has popped up on my screen.
Before doing anything else, I look at his profile and see about seventy nine mutual friends, which is a dead give away that he studies at Meadows High. And did I mention that he's part of the football team and, he is freakin' handsome?
But my Logan is cuter.
I stare at his message blankly. "Hi 😊❤"
Okay, what is it with the heart emoji? It's annoying me. My fingers are typing away in no time, the familiar curiosity washing over me.
Hi, who r u?
But as like always, my phone disappears again and is stolen by non other than Logan. He scowls quietly, thinking that I didn't hear. After a couple of presses and taps, he hands back the phone happily.
"Hey, why'd you block him?" I inquire.
"That dude is a jerk and he's nothing but trouble," he says.
"Sure he is," I giggle.
"Where's Gavin, by the way?" I wonder, seeing as his bag is not on the floor where he had left it earlier.
"Left already, had some business going on at home," he shrugs, scratching the back of his neck.
"Oh. Then maybe you should go too, it's almost eight now," I tell him, tossing my phone on the bed.
I walk down the steps next to Logan, peeking down to see if my mom could possibly be there to tease me or something. Once the coast is clear, I open the door for him.
"And Cass, do you remember when I kissed you a while ago? I did catch you blush, in case you weren't informed," he remarks slyly, as my lips move to a straight line, and my fist goes out to punch him.
I'm too caught up in my pathetic emotions to utter a single word, so I shut the dumb door and block out his laughs.

LOGAN
TWENTY MINUTES EARLIER.
I glance at Cass who is standing up from the dinner table. I cock my head towards Gavin who wants to follow her, before a hand is over mine and I look to Teacher Julia who is warmly smiling at Gavin and me.
"I swear, Mrs. French, I didn't know much about writing a paper or anything about Les Misérables before I came here," Gavin defends, holding his hands up in the air.
"Oh please, call me Teacher Julia, you both used to call me Teacher when you were toddlers and I'd like that much more," she chuckles.
Dang, I'm freakin' pissed because I am feeling real nervous, and so is Gavin. It's just Cass' mom here, I can't explain why I should be all tense.
"Boys, we all know my daughter is oblivious to things like these, and we all know what I mean by 'things like these'," she remarks, a hint of seriousness present in her voice.
She grins at our silence, and continues further.
"To be honest, I'm fine with Cassidy having a boyfriend, and I'm thanking the heavens that she met you two. It's more comforting as a mother to personally know the boys she hangs out with, and I know that the both of you are great kids," she says.
"I can clearly see that my daughter is happy with her new school, and I'm happy as well. But. . . you do know she can't choose the both of you. . ."
I flinch in my seat awkwardly. I knew long ago that Gavin liked Cassidy A lot, which explains my acting of a douche whenever something happened between them. But could you blame me? Cass was all too friendly, and I'll admit that she was completely oblivious that we were crushing on her.
And you know what's harder? It was Gavin who just had to like her. My best friend since birth.
"You don't have to worry much about me, but my husband will be a bit protective over his baby girl, so I just ask for your understanding if he acts strange." she states gravely.
"Er, I should probably be quiet now; these are the types of things Cassidy would get annoyed at and say that I'm humiliating her. But well, what's said is said and I am her mother after all," she giggles to herself before standing up and giving us a bright smile.
She shuffles out the door and heads upstairs.
"Um. . . that was awkward," Gavin mumbles, giving me a heated glance through his brown eyes. I return the stare immediately, narrowing my eyes.
I asked Cassidy to tutor me first, and I cannot believe Gavin imitated my tactics to get the girl. We both knew the whole story of Les Misérables, and we weren't idiots to not know how to write a reaction paper, obviously.
I stalk away, going upstairs as Gavin follows behind me. He walks inside, about to approach Cassidy, but I give him one glare and grabs his backpack without word and goes away. I do feel bad and guilty sometimes when we act like this; fighting over a girl. I never thought it'd happen, but it did, and it never stops no matter how bad I try stopping it.
And then I see Cassidy focused on her phone. I know the eyes of a girl when they see cute boys, and this time, the boy definitely isn't fictional or from Wattpad. I snatch it out of her hands and internally pat myself on the back for being correct.
It's that eleventh grader on the football team, with girls swooning behind him every single day. I waste no time in blocking him. I read the text message he's just sent.
Read the name, pretty (: i noticed u at school, and was wondering. . . u wanna hang out?
I seethe at the guts of this guy, and restrain from going out of control and doing something I'll probably regret in the future. I know Cass might not like this, but it's worth it, and she is in possession of a Logan Chase after all.
sorry, I have a boyfriend and tbh ur pretty ugly
I return the phone with a big smile spreading on my face.

Utterly Impossible has 1K reads! It may not be that much for some people, but it really means a lot to me! To everyone, I can't thank you enough for giving this story a chance and voting on it. I appreciate it so much and I couldn't be any more grateful. I know that I am absolutely not the best writer in the planet because I suck at novels. I'm still learning with writing and I'm too young for the extremely professional, beautiful literature type of thing. There's still loads of time, and I've got much more to learn (:
Love you all! Make sure to vote, comment, and follow me!
