Chapter 8

It's been an interesting two weeks since I summoned that Grimm. But, It was strange... Having that power, even more so. It didn't feel natural.

You could still hear the Grimm screaming at you. Wanting to help you. Wanting to protect you. But it also craved blood and lived off anger. But who's anger... Yours or hers.

Which is why you were meditating atop your room on the rooftop. Ever since that moment you've been looking into the reason or possibility to activate your semblance. Constantly training nonstop with my Aura, every waking moment when I'm not in class or searching for Roman, I spent training my aura.

Your friends understood... Taking the time to help you as well, it's been a huge help and truly an advantage on your part. Ren mentioned meditation would be a good way to hone the semblance.

But Ren also stated that I should focus on the method and reason as to why semblance activated. What was I feeling at that moment it happened? What pushed me over the edge?

I need a place to think, so I went to the roof since I needed a place to open up and focus.

You were taking steady breaths, sitting in the lotus position, as you focus on the moment, hoping to talk to the Grimm again like before. But so far... Nothing.

It seemed the beast was simply dormant.

Along with the ability he gave you. To explain it is, all five of your senses had been heightened to a degree you never thought possible. That's not even mentioning how you are now. Before you could feel aware of things. People, places and such.

But in that state, you had before.

The only true way of describing it would be like. Your regular senses felt like a small campfire only illuminating as much as it was allowed. But with your semblance, it was like a bonfire lighting up the darkness of the world. You wanted that power back.

Y/N: "But... The moment I awakened it. I craved anger... Why is that?"

Yet, my answer would have to wait. As I hear someone walking on to the roof. Quickly peering to the side, spotting both Pyrrha and Jaune walking onto the roof. Even at this distance, you could hear them. Yet, you remained in the Lotus position.

Jaune: "Pyrrha, I know that I'm going through a hard time right now, but I'm not... THAT depressed." Tilting his head down to the ground below. "I can always be a farmer or something..."

Pyrrha: "NO!"

Pyrrha pulled Jaune back from the edge of the room and turns to him.

Pyrrha: "That's not why I brought you up here! Jaune, I know you're having a difficult time in class and that you're still not the strongest of fighters, so... I want to help you!"

Jaune: "What?"

Pyrrha takes a step closer.

Pyrrha: "We can train up here after class where no one can bother us."

Jaune: "You think I need help?"

Pyrrha: "N-No! No, that's not what I meant."

Jaune: "But... You just said it."

Pyrrha: "Jaune, everybody needs a little push from time to time. It doesn't make you any different from the rest of us. You made it to Beacon, that speaks volumes of what your capable of!"

Jaune turns to the other way, looking at the edge of the roof again.

Jaune: "You're wrong..." He shakes his head sighs. "I-I don't belong here."

Pyrrha: "That's a terrible thing to say, of course, you do!"

Jaune suddenly spun around and looks Pyrrha in the eyes.

Jaune: "No, I don't!" He sighs and looks to the floor. "I wasn't accepted into Beacon."

I finally turned watching the two prattle on...

Pyrrha: "Wh-what do you mean?"

Jaune: "I mean; I didn't go to Combat school! I didn't pass any tests! I didn't earn my spot at this academy! I lied... I got my hands on some fake transcripts and I lied."

Pyrrha: "What? But, why?"

Jaune: "Cause, this is what I've always wanted to be! My father, grandfather and his father before him were all warriors. They were all heroes. I wanted to be one too. I was just never good enough."

Pyrrha: "Then let me help you."

Jaune: "I don't want help! I don't want to be the damsel in distress! I want to be a hero!"

Pyrrha: "Jaune! I didn't mean-"

Jaune: "I am tired of being the lovable idiot, stuck in the tree while his friends fight for their lives! Don't you understand!?"

Jaune raises his hands to the sky and groans.

Jaune: "If I can't do this on my own... Then what good am I?"

Pyrrha tries to comfort Jaune, but he takes a step back. You could see the pain on his face. He wanted to be alone.

Jaune: "Please... Leave me alone."

You watched Pyrrha walk-off heading for the door. But before she left she turned to Jaune.

Pyrrha: "If that's what you think is best."

As she left the roof Jaune looked to the floor. Yet, I heard something else. Someone else was with us. He was cackling as he pulled himself onto the roof. I groaned as I watched Cardin appear.

Cardin: "Oh Jaune..."

Jaune spun around shocked to see him, while Cardin walked over to him.

Cardin: "I couldn't help... But overhear you two from my dorm room. So you snuck into Beacon, huh? I've got to say Jaune, I've never expected you to be such a rebel."

Jaune: "Please! Cardin, please, don't tell anyone!"

Cardin chuckles about to reach out to Jaune.

Cardin: "Jaune... come on, I'd never rat out a friend like that."

Jaune: "A friend?"

Cardin wraps his arm around Cardin's neck and you watched as is strangling Jaune giving him a noogie.

Cardin: "Of course... We're a friend now, Jauney boy! And the way I see it, as long as you're there for me when I need you, we'll be friends for a long time."

Cardin finally let's go of Jaune as he grabs he starts gasping for air.

Cardin: "That being said... I don't have time to do those extra readings Dr. Oobleck gave us today." He leaned down grabbing Jaune by his hair. "Think you could take care of that for me, buddy?"

Cardin walks to the edge of the roof staring out onto the school, while Jaune nods and walks off.

Cardin: "Thanks Jaune... You're a great friend."

As Jaune closes the door, I finally moved and turned to Cardin. Who was chuckling along pleased with himself.

Cardin: "With your stupid friends not even hear, this just got to easy."

I clenched my fist as I stared at Cardin from my vantage point.

Y/N: 'This isn't right... Jaune...'

At that moment I watched a shadow appear behind Cardin. However, it was more than just a shadow, it had an outline of some figure... It merely looked like a cloud hovering off the ground.

Then I watch Cardin turn around, finally spotting the cloud. He jumped back and fell to the floor, you heard him scream as he hits the ground.

Cardin: "Ah... My leg!!!"

The cloud turns to me and travels toward, appearing in front of me stopping short of my face. Then disappears.

Y/N: "Was that... Me?"

???: "Cardin!?"

You dare not stand up from your hiding spot and instead went to your room, preferring not to tell anyone what happened. But as you lay in your bed looking at the ceiling.

I was constantly flexing my left hand like it had pins and needles. But what was semblance and what had it become, was it truly like a shadow... But the most important thing was, were you controlling it. Or was it do it on its own?

I studied my left hand, the shadow appeared prancing around my fingertips then disappears.

Y/N: "What this my semblance doing?"

[Time Skip]

That all happened a week ago, Jaune had been caught by Cardin and his little trap, you've remained silent through the whole thing. Out of respect to Jaune.

After all, if he wants to be a big boy, to stop being the damsel in distress and all. You can respect that. But this... Being picked on and lead around as he has. Well, it doesn't sit easy.

His team was worried, constantly asking you what was wrong. Like you had the answers and could change his mind. But still, the worst only happened a few short minutes ago, Jaune had stood in line at the cafeteria station.

He was carrying four trays. All four Cardin's team, but as he reaches Cardin's table, he was tripped by one of Cardin's team members.

He fell to the floor, the food splattering onto his face and clothing. He was covered from head to toe, in food. But as he stood up, wiping the food off his face.

Cardin merely chuckled in his seat.

Cardin: "Oh, well... Guess you'll have to start all over again Jauney boy."

That was my breaking point. I walked over to Jaune as he still wipes off most of the food off his face and clothing, I had already placed my hand on his shoulder, stopping him as he was about to leave.

Y/N: "Jaune we need to talk."

Jaune: "Sorry, I've got to-"

Y/N: "Come with me."

Cardin still laughing. Turn to me shaking his head.

Cardin: "Sorry, buddy. But Jaune is helping my dear friends, so please run along."

I turned to Cardin, the to Jaune, then wipe off a bit of the food that fell on his back and hoodie. While Jaune looked to the floor.

Jaune: "Just leave me alone..."

My hand reached into Jaunes hoody finding one of the cafeteria knives and forks. However, Cardin's group finally stopped laughing and took on a more serious face.

Cardin: "Hey didn't you-"

I had flung the fork and knife at the table where Cardin sat. He looked at his right hand resting on the table, both the fork and knife, had been impaled into the wood table, in-between his index and thumb. He gulped as I grabbed him by his throat.

Y/N: "Shut. Up!"

He nods and I turn to Jaune already pulling him along.

Jaune: "But i- "

Y/N: "Follow. Now."

He nods and I lead him out of the cafeteria, taking him to his team's room. Telling him to clean himself up. He disappears for a few moments. While I waited in the hallway silent. When he appeared, he was clean and still looked to the floor ashamed of himself.

Jaune: "Thank you."

Y/N: "Don't mention it... Now, why don't we talk about your secret Jaune."

Jaune scratches the back of his head looking the other way.

Jaune: "Secret... I have no secret."

He starts to laugh and I raise his head so he now looks me in the eye.

Y/N: "I know Jaune. You can drop the act."

Jaune: "You know... Please don't tell anyone."

Y/N: "Don't worry... I won't tell a soul."

Jaune nods thanking me. But considering the predicament and how I found out about his secret.

Jaune: "How did you know?"

Y/N: "Jaune I meditated on the roof when Pyrrha and you were talking about. I also heard your little story between Cardin and you. You want to talk about it?"

Jaune: "Please, don't tell anyone or Ms. Goodwitch."

I crossed my arms over my chest staring at him.

Y/N: "That didn't even cross my mind Jaune!!!" I tapped his chest with my index finger stepping closer to him. "I'm one of your real friends Jaune. But hears the problem, I heard what you said to Pyrrha and how you don't want to be the damsel in distress. So I didn't step in before out respect for you Jaune... But you need to choose now."

Jaune gulps and begins to twiddle his thumbs

Jaune: "Choose what?"

Y/N: "Is it worth being picked on by Cardin and go through all this. Or, do you stand up and do what you must."

Jaune: "Are you tell me; I should leave..."

I stepped back and shook my head as I focused on Jaune once more.

Y/N: "No... I'm telling you, you've got two choices. Either A) you become Cardin's puppet for the rest of your life. Or, B) You stand up to him or ask for help. Your choice!"

I stormed off. But I stop in place turning back to Jaune.

Y/N: "Also, your team is worried about their leader. Pyrrha is worried about you. Best remember who your real friends are Jaune. I'll see you later."

[Time Skip]

It was nearly eight o'clock. I was reading in my room, catching up on whatever information I could on Vale.

From their history, science, even culture. Leonardo often mentioned the benefit of knowing thy enemy or at the very least. Using knowledge to ones benefit.

He was not wrong, I was studying the layout of the city and where the white fang may be placed. However, my concentration was broken. When I hear a knock at my door.

Y/N: 'Must be Jaune?'

I've already opened the door and instead of finding Jaune, I find Pyrrha at my door. From the way she walked and held her hands together. She seemed distant from her normal peaceful state.

Pyrrha: "Hi Y/N."

Y/N: "Hi..." Her eyes seemed tired. "Are you alright?"

Pyrrha quickly glances up and down the hall, then finally looks to me.

Pyrrha: "Can we talk, in private."

I nodded letting her into my room, she took a seat on one of my open beds. While I sat across from her. My arms rested on my knees as I waited for Pyrrha to start. She took a deep breath. Then finally spoke.

Pyrrha: "It's about Jaune."

I nodded, scratching my chin noticing a bit of stubble that had grown out from the previous day.

Y/N: "You're worried."

Pyrrha nods and sighs. I looked to the floor shaking my head.

Y/N: "I know about the conversation on the roof."

Pyrrha: "I... Didn't know."

Y/N: "It's OK, I'm not going to tell anyone. But he's... Difficult, you know that Pyrrha, he wants to be the hero. But he needs a teacher."

Pyrrha nods looking the other way and shakes her head.

Pyrrha: "But he doesn't want my help."

I shook my head. Pyrrha focused on me as I flashed her a smile.

Y/N: "Don't worry about it, he's acting like a guy... That's all." Pyrrha looked at me confused and I spoke up. "Here is a little secret for you Pyrrha. Guys can't ask for help. It's... Just hard for us. We'd rather do ourselves then than ask for help."

Pyrrha: "That sounds... Stupid, why can't you ask for help?"

I shrug my shoulders, I've done it plenty of times. Still, do now.

Y/N: "Because it makes us feel weak. Plus, it's a whole pride thing for us... As men, we have to prove were our worth, and sometimes that hurts us more than anyone else could."

Pyrrha: "What do we do?"

I stroked my chin in thought and shrugged my shoulders.

Y/N: "Not much... You can't force it on him, he needs to accept it. Otherwise, it's pointless. All we can do is be his friends and help him."

Pyrrha: "I'm trying... But he won't listen. I could help him."

I shook my head knowing where Janue is coming from and how hard it is to ask for help. To take a step down and admit your faults.

Y/N: "Pyrrha, if the shoe was on the other foot. Would you listen to him?"

Pyrrha: "Yes... No... I don't know."

Y/N: "I've been in his shoes before, you've been in his shoes before. No one wants to be weak. But we both know that we didn't become warriors overnight. It took months, years even to be at the level we are now. If he wants to be like us... He's got to admit he's weak and ask for help. Only then, can we help."

Pyrrha: "I know..." Pyrrha flashes me a grin and I chuckle. "Thank you, for looking out for him."

Y/N: "I do for all of you. As odd as it sounds... Your all my real friends."

Pyrrha: "Thank you Y/N. I feel the same."

For the new few minutes, we spoke of school work, even of our homes. However, when it was about 10 in the evening that Pyraah decided to go back to her room.

I lay on my bed taking a moment to let it all sink in. I could feel my fatigue and

But my scroll started to ring and noticed it was a phone Ozpin stating Roman had broken into one Dust Shops nearby. Without a second thought, I leaped out of my bedroom window.

[Time Skip]

For the past two hours, I have been on the prowl tracking down my prey. Although I arrived too late, the shop had been destroyed and luckily the owner was alright. But before I could even find any clues or ask questions about what happened here.

The cops arrived before me... A small crowd of people watched behind a yellow line, as multiple types of men, women, and children stared at the destroyed store, the main window was destroyed and littered the sidewalk.

I had to be careful as I made my way around the back of the store, searching for any signs of forced entry. I opened the backdoor and stepped in ducking behind a few containers as the cops kept walking in and out.

I tried to understand what happened, the front of the store had been handled along with the back of the store. No dust in the store, crates were destroyed and from the looks of it. This job was handled without a problem.

Y/N: 'Leaving no clues... This doesn't seem right.'

I hid in the shadows watching a police officer walk past and leave the room behind. A few seconds later I stood on the roof watching the cops drive off. Not a lead insight.

Y/N: "Hmm..."

What could I do... There were no clues about where the whiter Fang had gone and from the looks of things.

"What's wrong child... Not able to track down your prey?"

I spun around already drawing my sword ready to attack. But when I turned around on the rooftop, no one was there. It was only me on the tarred rooftop. I scratched the back of my neck as I rubbed my eye.

Y/N: "I... must be sleepy... I mean, there's no way. That... Someone spoke to me?"

"Are you so sure?"

As I heard that voice a second time, I gulped. My spine tingled as pins and needles move up and down my fingertips.

Y/N: "No... No... Their's no one here... I'm dreaming... That's right I'm fatigued."

"Are you certain of that?"

My free hand went for a throwing knife on my belt, I rolled to the side and threw the blade in the direction of the voice. I heard a ting and looked up to see the blade had sunk into a metal pipe. However, besides the blade were these dark red eyes staring right back at me.

"It seems... You're not in the mood to talk."

The eyes vanished and I keeled to where those eyes stood. An oozing black liquid slowly trickling from the wall where it once stood. My fingertips touched the black ooze.

Y/N: "It looks like... Grimm's blood. But they wouldn't get this close to town. What's going on here."

I waited for the voice to call back. I took the blade that was stuck into the wall and walked off.

[Time Skip]

The day went by rather uneventful, passing in a few short moments. However, as the day went on, I'm dragged along with the rest of the class to some forest littered with red tree leaves.

Glynda our teacher for this out of class event speaks up.

Glynda: "Yes students the Forest of Forever Fall is indeed beautiful. But we are not here to sight-see. Professor Peaches has asked all of you to collect a sample from the trees deep inside this forest. And I'm here to make sure that none of you die while doing so."

I scratched the back of my neck and yawned. Feeling a bit of fatigue from the previous night. Ruby was walking beside me turned to study my face.

Ruby: "You alright Y/N?"

I nod yawning again, but this time covering my mouth as we finally stop in place.

Y/N: "Just sleepy."

Yang: "What were you doing so late into the night?"

I turned to Yang who has wrapped her arm around my neck, as she comes very close to my face.

Yang: "Anything... Interesting happen, Mr. Bat, ~"

Y/N: "I'm not in the mood for this Yang."

Glynda: "Do you two mind!"

Yang giggled while I stood up and remained silent looking the other way. With that Glynda continued.

Glynda: "As I was saying... Each of you is to gather one jar's worth of the red sap. However, this forest is full of Grimm. So be sure to stay by your teammates. We will rendezvous back here at four. Have fun."

I'm handed a jar from Ruby, about to quickly get this sap and get a little nap when I hear Jaune grunt out, then turn to see him walking off with.

Pyrrha: "Jaune..."

I turned and nodded. As I watched him disappear out of sight. From the look on Pyrrha's eyes and the way, she looked at me. I could already tell what she was going to ask.

Y/N: "I'll follow from afar. Make sure little Jaune is safe."

Pyrrha: "Thanks Y/N."

I turned to her and nodded.

Y/N: "No problem, just be safe out there."

Pyrrha nods and walks off. With that out of the way, I crack my knuckles and get to work.

It didn't take long to find Cardin's little group, they were above the rest of the class, all resting on the floor as Jaune got to work. I watched and waited. So far, nothing.

Minutes go by and the most interesting conversation I heard was the guys talking about a prank they pulled on Jaune. I'm personally surprised that this group even made it into Beacon.

Let alone haven't noticed me, as I watched from a nearby tree. However, when Jaune was finally done collecting all of the sap, he groans falling to the floor.

Cardin: "Hey, great job Jauney boy. Now that wasn't too hard, was it?"

Jaune turns to the group holding the tip of his nose, as he takes a step back from the tree sap.

Jaune: "I think I'm allergic to this stuff."

Cardin merely shakes his head as his team walks over to Jaune.

Cardin: "Great, great, great. So, Jaune. I bet you're asking yourself 'Why did my buddy Cardin ask me to collect six jars of tree sap when there are only five of us?'"

Jaune stood up sniffing the air with his blocked nose and nodded along.

Jaune: "That is one of the many questions that I have asked myself today, yes."

Cardin calls Jaune over and I see this glint of a smile appear on Cardin's face. He turned to look down at the people below him still picking up sap.

Cardin: "You're about to find out."

The group inches closer over the little hill spotting Jaune team nearby, Cardin focused on Pyrrha and seemed to growl under his teeth. As the redhead got to work collecting sap, minding her own business.

Jaune: "Um Cardin, what are we doing here?"

Cardin: "Were here, for payback."

Jaune finally noticed Cardin's stare focused solely on Pyrrha.

Jaune: "Pyrhha..."

Cardin: "That's the one, along with the stupid foreign kid... Guess we'll get him later on. The two of them acting like know it alls, always acting better than everyone. But you aren't really... And it's time to knock you both down a peg. Now boys, Jaune over here managed to get us an entire swarm of rapier wasps and now we're going to put them to work."

Jaune nervously laughs while I've already cocked a sleeping dart into my gauntlet waiting for him to make a move.

Cardin: "Now, according to one of the essays Jaune has wrote for me last week, these nasty little things looove sweets. I'm thinking it's time we teach Pyrrha a thing or two."

The group stands up and Cardin hands the jar of sticky sap to Jaune, who stares at him confused.

Cardin: "And your gonna do it."

Jaune turns to Pyrrha and looks to Cardin shaking his head.

Jaune: "No I can't-"

Cardin: "Hit her with the sap! Or I'll have a little chat with Goodwitch, and you'll be on the first airship out of Beacon."

Jaune turned to Pyrrha nad looked at the jar, under my breath I spoke up.

Y/N: "Don't do it Jaune..."

I didn't want to see him do it and Jaune slowly raises his arm, ready to throw. But stops and speaks up.

Jaune: "No..."

Cardin chuckles and speaks up.

Cardin: "What did you say?

Jaune shaking with the bottle in hand turns chucking the bottle at Cardin's face, the bottle misses his face. But instead smashes against his chest piece littering the sticky sap all over him.

Jaune: "I said NO!"

I saw Cardin slowly walking closer to Jaune raising his fist, however as he's about to attack. I heard a growl and it made everyone turn around to see a huge Ursaring.

Far older and stronger than the rest, he stood on his hind legs and was near twice the size of any bear. The Grimm charges the group, Cardind's team runs into action going for their weapons.

But the Grimm swats them aside. With Cardin getting the worst of it. Sent flying and being smashed against a tree. Jaune stood still as the Grimm glared down at him for a moment then he turned to Cardin. Appearing still very dazed.

Jaune: "Cardin! Get up!!!"

Cardin shook his head still out of it, I fired my gauntlet the dart stick into the back of the creature. But it still kept running and watch Jaune running after it.

Y/N: "Goddammit."

I fired my gauntlet at the Grimm, it grappling hook sticking into it's back the creature stop in place. But I've already jumped down pulling it back and for it to land on it's back.

Jaune: "Y/N?"

I held my arm as the Grimm slowly got back nearly pulling me up the tree.

Y/N: "Jaune, please kill it!"

Jaune nodded grabbing his blade from his sheath, as he sprints to meet the Grimm, I'm line goes taut pulling me up into the tree again. I cut the line and grasp a branch, then turn to my gauntlet showing signs of a burnt motor.

I groaned at the Grimm, as he slowly stands up acting as if nothing happened.

Y/N: "OK... You're dead!"

I jumped out of the tree and sprint over to Jaune's aid as he's a bounce-back by the Grimm. It turns and slides onto the floor missing it raises paws. Sliding through its leg. But not before I sink my hidden blade into his hind leg.

It screams and turns around as I jump to the floor. Jaune stabs the creature into the back, allowing me time to jump back and draw my blade. Jaune still planting his blade into the creature is spun around and falls by my feet. I help him up and we both stare down the creature.

Jaune: "What do we do?"

Y/N: "Take up my stance."

Jaune turned and noticed how I stood, I was low to the ground my feet wide and my sword resting on my hip. Jaune quickly does the same as he stares down the Grimm.

Jaune: "He's getting closer."

Y/N: "Three... Two... One. NOW!"

Jaune and I move on instinct, our blade drives into the chest of the Grimm. We stop the creature and I speak to Jaune.

Y/N: "Now step into it!"

Jaune watched me push my blade deeper into the Grimm, he does the same and with the force of our push, the Grimm topples onto it's back dead. Jaune had let go of his sword. While I remained...

He was speechless. I sheathed my blade and walked over to Jaune's sword. Pulling it out of the Grimm and threw it into the air as I grab the bladed end and hold the hilt out for Jaune. He stared at me for a moment and finally took his sword.

I chuckled walking over him and placing my hand on his shoulder.

Y/N: "Not bad... Not bad at all."

Jaune: "Thanks..."

I nod and turn to see Pyrrha, Ruby, and Weiss hiding behind a tree. I give them a nod and turn to Jaune, who was helping Cardin to his feet.

Cardin: "That was... Pretty cool Jaune."

Jaune: "Don't you dare hurt my friends, ever again! Am I clear!"

Jaune walks off and I shrug my shoulder as Cardin stares up at me.

[Time Skip]

I was resting in my seat, with Pyrrha sitting beside me. I thought it might be nice to have some tea, however as we sat on our chairs talking about what happened earlier today.

We hear a knock at the door, with Jaune's voice on the other end.

Jaune: "Hey... Y/N, this is Jaune. Can... Can I come in?"

I turned to Pyrrha and she nods, pushing a bit of her red hair behind her ear. I chuckled and walked over to the door. Jaune walks in noticing Pyrrha as she smiles right back at him.

Jaune: "Hey Pyrrha... Guess this is a good as time as any."

I peered over to Pyrrha who seemed to know the answer already.

Jaune: "Could... Both of you train me, please. I mean if it's not too much trouble."

Hey guys sorry for taking so long. I usually write these chapter in advance. But this is one of the few chapters that was one of the harder ones to write for some odd reason.

Please leave a like or a comment.

Have a great day and i hope to see you guys soon - For anyone who's asking about the Marvel chapter. I'm also pretty close with that one also. Been facing something of a writers block.
