Chapter two

Parker adjusts his bow tie. He was excited for this, for this opportunity to work for the Starter Squad. He couldn't wait till tryouts.

He wanted to look good in front of the squad. He checked himself in the mirror, and winked. He finger gunned his reflection. He readjusted his tie, then he sighed.

" Today is the day." He tells himself, attempting to calm his racing heart. To no avail. He was way too hyped about this day. What if I fail tryouts? What if I don't fail, but I'm not what they're looking for? Parker panicked inside his head.

He sighed. I can do this. Just try. If you fail, try again. He advises himself. He smiled at himself. " This is where I will make my dreams come into reality." I hope.

A knock on his door, made him halt in his thoughts and actions. He froze. He then shimmied to the door. He pressed his white paw against the knob.

That would be Gull. He thinks, as he turns the golden knob. His thoughts were right as a white seagull was unveiled in front of the door, blue stripes lining her wings.

" Good morning, Parker." Gull greeted him with a chirp. " Good morning, Gull." He responded, walking back to let her in. She shakes her head, appreciation of the gesture, but not going inside his house.

" It's almost time." She informs him. Her eyes trailed to the skies. Parker nods. " I know." He responds. Longing was in Gull's eyes.

He knew how much this meant to her, but he couldn't tell her that they would make it, or that they would both make it. Even then, they both might die.

" Do you have everything you need for this trip?" Gull enquired, peering around the room. Parker's eyes found their way to a different room. He didn't have his bag, but that room...it doesn't matter. They're...gone now.

Parker wildly shakes his head. There's no need to think about the past. What's happened, happened. There is...nothing I can do to change that, other than to...perhaps join this Squad. This squad is the only way I can pay back to them what I never could have.

He never told Gull or anyone else what happened. He was all alone in this world. He had no one. Yes, you could say he was an orphan, but what happened made him believe he was nothing but a a weakling. He was always relying on someone to save him.

He wanted to save himself for a change. Be the one to risk their life for the life of someone else. I'll be forever in their debt. He miserably thought.

A wing was pressed against his shoulder. " Not yet, Gull. I have...to get my bag." He tells her, quickly running off into the room.

" But that," Gull began, putting up a wing. She placed it down as she realized that Parker was already gone. " That isn't where your bag even is." She commented, worry ablaze in her eyes.

There is something wrong with that, boy. I just know it. He just...won't tell me what's wrong. Gull thought as she watched him go into the room.

Parker found his way to the bed in the room. The abandoned room that no one slept in now. He sighed, hot tears falling down his face. " Why?!" He wailed as silent as possible.

" Why did they have to leave me?!" A cascade of tears fell down his face. He couldn't stop them. There was nothing, he was sure of, that would save him from this broken heart of his.

His heart was shattered. I miss them so much! He thought in despair, wiping away the tears, trying to be all macho. When his tears started, it usually took everything in him to get him to stop crying.

A picture was located on the drawer. He picked it up, sniffling as he looked at it, it's silver framing sparkling, even in the darkness.

He traced the picture, sighing deeply. A tear managed to get past him. It fell onto the picture. " I hope you enjoy your afterlife in Arceus kingdom." He spoke, intending for whoever to hear it to at least know he cared.

He sighed. His paw traced one of the Pokémon in the picture. I should get going, and actually get my bag. Gull must be worried about me. I'm not sure how long I took. Time always stops when I take a glance to look at that photo.

He composed himself and pretends he's walking sheepishly out of the room. " Whoops." He fake laughed, trying to seem like he went on there on accident.

" Wrong room. My bag is in this room." He informs Gull as he instantly races into the room where he last saw his bag, so as to not have her question him.

He sighed, heart pounding as he went into his own bedroom. He could feel it beat. He was sure that Gull could hear it from where she was. I sure hope she doesn't. He thought in desperation.

His heart only sped up more. He clutched his heart as he slowly walked around his room. It was as if he was in a room full of danger, except he was just thinking about what happened to him, and...and...I don't even want to think about it right now.

Parker had to admit he was fragile. More fragile than he let on. He jumped over some clothes on the ground, well, the clothes he did happen to have. Some Pokemon rarely owned clothing because they are surrounded by fur, or feel comfortable without clothes on.

He bent over. He pressed his paw into the pile of clothes on the ground. Most of it was scarves and warm clothes in case he even went onto a cold mountain.

He would say he is immune to the cold, but he wasn't. He hated the cold. He also hated the hot. The only thing, in his opinion, that was okay cold or hot was a nice shower.

Being a water-type he loved showers. He also just loved swimming in general. Swimming is the greatest thing on planet Earth! He believed.

His paw wrapped itself around something. Bingo! He had found the bag. He lifted it up out of the dirty laundry.

Despite being a water-type, he hated to wash his clothes. He had to admit that he was pretty lazy when he got the chance to be.

He pulled the bag up, well it was a satchel, and put it on him to where he could have it at all times. He sighed as he made his way back to the entrance.

There was a hole in the floor. It was the size of a Samurott. That hole was...a reminder to Parker of what happened to them. Forget them! I need to focus on my life right now!

He raced to the doorway. " Ready!" He declared with pride flaring from his chest. He proudly showed his bag. " What took you so long?" She wondered. " Oh, you know, the usual. My room was messy as always. I had to find it under all my stuff." He stated with a fake smile.

Please believe me. He silently pleaded with her. She seemed to stare at him suspiciously for a bit before nodding. " Alright, but if you want to talk ever I'm here." Gull tells him with a knowing look on her face.

She knew he was sad! Shit! " I don't need to talk. We need to go!" He tells her, distracting her from what she noticed. Luck was on Parker's side. " You're right. Let's go!" Gull cheered as the two began to walk towards a subway.

The subway would be their ticket to the Squad. They both had their tickets on them. " Tickets please." A Gallade said, seeming really miserable having a job at the subway station.

Parker handed him his ticket. " Keep moving. It's to your right." The Gallade informs. Parker twists his head to the right. There were only two trains. One that went right and one that went left.

" Thanks!" Parker thanked the lonely looking Pokémon as he got out of line, and waited in a chair nearby. It was one of the long ones. It was made of wood, luckily not made from an actual Pokémon.

He moved his feet in boredom as he waited for his winged pal. She flew over, excitement radiating off of her. " I can't wait! We're one step closer to our goals!" She chirped as he got up. The train was getting ready to stop as they walked towards the waiting crowd of Pokémon.

The doors opened and a flood of Pokémon raced out of the train, making Parker feel claustrophobic from all the hustling, and bustling Pokémon. He didn't expect so many to be exciting and entering this train.

Are they all Starter Squad members? He wondered as he sat down in a seat that was right next to his friend. Another Pokémon settled herself down next to him.

It was a turtle. She was darkish in color. Darker than any other of her kind that he saw in school. She had a green shell. None of the turtles he knew had green shells.

Is this Pokémon what you would call a 'shiny?' He wondered as she turned her kind gaze to meet his. " Hello!" She greeted. " H-hello." He stuttered. I wasn't expecting her to notice me. He admitted to himself.

He never would expect anyone to notice him other than his friend. The shiny Squirtle tilted her head. " So, you're an Oshawott? What's your name?" She asked him.

My name? " My name is Parker. This Wingull next to me is my friend, Gull." He introduced. He wasn't really good at getting noticed.

Most Pokémon either ignored him as if he wasn't someone special, or as if he was a Popplio. Man, were those the real clowns of the starters. Parker wouldn't know what he would do if he ever met one.

He didn't even wish to meet one. He supposed he would with this Squad, but he hoped that he wouldn't see one that often. They creep me out.

" Hello." Gull remarked to the shiny, waving a paw at her as her name was mentioned. " Hello ,Gull, Parker. My name is Spout." She introduced. " Nice to meet you, Spout." Parker automatically said.

" Same. Where are you heading off to?" Spout asked, kicking up small talk. " The Starter Squad." He responded. " For what?" Spout wondered.

" To join it. Gull's gonna join the mail crew." Parker commented, trying to keep the talk to a minimum. It's not that he didn't trust this squirtle, it's just she talked too much.

Spout nodded. " Me too!" She said cheerfully. That was when the train stopped. The doors opened and all the Pokémon inside squeezed their way, pushed, or maneuvered their way out of the train.

Forget about before when getting on the train, after is the real train wreak. Parker thought as he managed to get across the train, and out without getting hurt.

Gull had flew over, and Spout has retracted into her shell to get out. Nobody wanted to mess with a shelled Squirtle, that's all that needs to be said.

After that, they caught a bus. Nothing really happened except Spout made it her goal to sit next to Parker. He assumed it was because she wasn't with anyone.

Is she alone as well? He wondered. The bus stopped in front of their goal: The Starter Squad headquarters. The Pokémon inside the bus all went outside to marvel at the building.

It's so huge! Wow! Parker thought as he stepped down the bus stairs. This is it. He thought to himself. I finally get to prove that I don't need saving. I don't need anyone. I'll show you, murderer. Parker thought as he made his way inside the big building, full of busy starters.
