Chapter 4

"Mettaton! We have to leave soon!" Toriel's voice called.

"Just a moment, darling!" I said, putting on my lip liner. I used my finger to blend the liner a bit, then added a coat of shiny, red lipgloss over my metal lips. I admired my reflection from my vanity, as I put my makeup back into its organizer. I stepped out of my room, where I saw Toriel waiting. "Really? No makeup? No pizazz?" I asked, without meaning to sound rude.

"Mettaton," she chuckled, "you know that's not my thing. Plus, we're just hanging out! It's not like we'll be on a date or anything." She laughed, unbeknownst to my plan to get her together with Sans.

"Alright, whatever you say, darling." I handed Toriel her purse, and we headed out the door. "So, where are we going?"

"We decided to go to the new Grillby's. It might be a fun little reminder of our home in the underground."

"I suppose you're right, darling, though I've always found the food a bit greasy."

"Mettaton, be nice." She said in her 'mom' voice.

"Of course, Toriel." I rolled my eyes. I loved living with her, really, but she has a habit of acting like she's my mom. I suppose that's something she and Alphys have in common.

We walked down the stairs and out the building. We decided to drive, as Grillby's was too far to walk to. We got in Toriel's blue mini van, yet another 'mom' thing about her, and started driving.

We pulled into the parking lot, and I noticed 2 skeletons standing outside the building. "There they are!" I yelled, scarring Toriel.

"Mettaton!" She pulled into a space. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!"

"Sorry, darling~" I tried sounding flirty to soften the blow. It didn't work. She rolled her eyes and we both stepped out of the car.

"Sans! Over here!" She called, waving her hand. We walked over to them. "Hey Sans! Papyrus." She smiled.

"Hey beauties~" I said with my signature wink and smile. I think I saw Papyrus blush slightly, but he shook it off. He must still be starstruck. Oh well.

"Hello, Mettaton!" Papyrus greeted.

"Hey." Was Sans' response.

"Shall we?" I asked nodding towards the door.

"Sure." Sans replied and we walked in. The new Grillby's was almost identical to the original, except there were more seat, and a bigger kitchen. "Oh the memories." Sans said.

"Yeah, memories of you slacking off." Papyrus murmured.

"Let's go find a seat." Toriel suggested. Sans suggested the bar, but we all decided to get a booth. Toriel and Sans sat across from Papyrus and I. The waiter came fast, and we all ordered our drinks.

"So, what have you two been up to since coming to the surface?" Toriel asked sweetly.

"Well, I've gotten a part time job at a comic book store. It's pretty cool. Not a lot of costumers, which means not a lot of work to do for the same pay." He said, as I started questioning his work ethic.

"Comic books?" Toriel thought. "I guess that would make you 'Comic Sans'." She cracked up at her own joke.

"That was a good one Toriel." He said, his smile seemed to become more pleasure filled. "Very punny." He said as the two erupted in laughter. Papyrus gritted his teeth in annoyance.

"Aww, does that not tickle your funny bone?" I said, teasingly. He turned his head towards me and blankly stared a bit. "Ahem" I fake coughed, trying to get Toriel's attention.

"Alright," she calmed down her giggling. "What do you do, Papyrus?"

"Well, I, the Great Papyrus," he said striking a heroic pose, "am training to be a member of the Royal Gaurd!" I questioned if I should tell him that the guard disbanded, but he seemed so passionate about it, I decided it was better to let him dream.

"Well, that's a very heroic dream." Toriel added in her sweet, motherly voice. I smiled, agreeing.

"I think so, too." I said as Papyrus' smile grew. This time, I definitely saw a blush form on his cheek bones. It was kind of cute. Oh come on, Mettaton, you're here for Toriel.

I learned that one thing Sans and Toriel had in common was definitely puns. They enjoyed themselves, but it seemed to annoy Papyrus. Think, Mettaton, think. "Oh, Papyrus~" I cooed. "May I talk to you? In private?"

"O-of course." He said. I lead him to a hallway, away from the table.

"Now, listen, it's obvious what's going on?"

"Nyeh?"

"Try to bare through the puns, and you can get this." I said holding up a pass to my recording studio.

"What?" Was all he could muster. I sighed.

"If you pretend the puns don't bother you, I'll give you a one time pass to visit my recording studio." He still seemed a bit confused. "I'm just trying to help my friend out, and, apparently, puns seem to be their version of flirting."

"Okay then." He smiled. I winked, making a flirty smile, and lead him back to the table. We saw Toriel and Sans laughing hysterically. Must be more puns.

"Mettaton," she said in between catching her breath, "Sans tells the best jokes!"

"Ah please, they're nothing compared to Toriel's here." As soon as Sans said this, I saw a blush creep into Toriel's face. Could my plan actually be working? Our drinks were already at the table, so I took a sip of my water. Our waiter came by once more.

"Alright have you decided what to order yet?" He asked, kindly.

"Spaghetti!" Papyrus shouted.

"Tell Grillbz back there that I'll have my usual." Sans said nonchalantly.

"I'll just have a burger." I said.

"I'll have a burger as well." Toriel added.

"You food will be here shortly." He nodded with a smile before walking away.

The food was pretty good, I'll admit, but what was even better was that my plan appears to be working. Though, I did have some fun myself, it was all for Toriel.

"Hey, Papyrus." I said before leaving.

"Yes?" He asked as he walked over to me.

"Thanks for bearing through. Visit sometime." I said as I placed the pass into his hand.

"Paps! C'mon!" Sans yelled from the car.

"See ya' around." I winked as I sashayed away.
