'RUN CHILD BEFORE THEY TAKE AWAY YOUR INDIVIDUALITY.'
•
I do not own Legend of Korra or the Last Airbender, all credit goes to the people who made the two happen. I only own Kanna and the things I make up along the way. Most of the script comes from the person who created it. Descriptions come from the show I've watched and the things I've read.
•
Kanna Kya
•
A low groan emits from Kanna's wary body as she slowly opens her eyes. She squints, raising a hand to block the harsh sunlight coming in from the window. She notices the many wires and the IV hooked up to her.
"Good afternoon, Kanna." A nurse greets her while walking in the room with a plate full of food. "I'm your nurse, Ren. All your injuries have been healed, but we wanted to check to see if there's any brain damage once you woke up." He sets the plate down on the small table next to the hospital bed.
"How long have I been out?" She questions, eyeing up the ramen on the plate.
"It's only been about 12 hours I believe." He answers and gets out a flashlight. "Open your eyes wide, okay your pupils are reacting normally. Now follow my finger," he slowly moves his finger from side to side. "Okay that's good too, can you tell me your name?"
"Kanna Kya." She replies.
"Where are you currently living?"
"At the Air Temple with my cousin Tenzin and his family and with Korra." The nurse nods his head and writes a few things down on the pad in his hand.
"Everything looks good. The doctor will be in shortly to finish up anything else we need to check. Enjoy your lunch and there is a visitor waiting to see you. May I send them in?" Kanna nods her head and watches as the nurse walks out of the room. She checks her body real quick to see if there's any scars left from the healing process. A sigh of relief leaves her when she sees that there are no scars left. She quickly grabs the plate containing a bowl of ramen and rice and starts eating.
"Kanna, thank goodness." Tenzin enters the room and smiles at his younger cousin. "You had us all worried." He pulls up on the seats in the room next to her bed and sits.
"How is everyone doing? What happened?" She inquiries.
"Everyone is good, they're just stressing about you. Asami, Mako and Bolin are moving into the Air Temple right now. Lin and I woke up just as Asami electrocuted her own father and we all escaped. Korra was frantically healing you because you were losing a lot of blood." Kanna feels herself shrink under the intense gaze of Tenzin. "I know you can blood bend." He mumbles and a strike of fear shoots through her. All the air seems to be sucked out of her. She waits for him to yell at her for her disgusting bending, to banish her from ever setting foot on Air Temple Island again yet he just puts his hand on tops of her knee. "I think we need to expand your skills on that so you stop getting hurt. This is an entirely new playing field and you cannot rely on just your water bending anymore."
"Tenzin, blood bending is one of the most dangerous forms of bending. If people found out..." She trails off, imagining the uproar people would cause.
"Who cares?" She blinks in surprise at his words. "This is for your own safety. I called up my mother and she is unable to come up to help you, but she did provide me the location of a mentor here in Republic City."
"Katara can blood bend?" Kanna gawks in shock.
"It's not a skill she openly admits to having, but yes she can blood bend." Tenzin admits. "I invited the mentor over for dinner today so you can meet and hopefully begin training tonight." A knock on the door startles the duo and they glance over to see the doctor standing there.
"Hello Kanna," The doctor greets and briefly nods at Tenzin in acknowledgement. "I'm Dr. Yin. Everything on your charts seem good, all your tests came back good and there seems to not be anymore issues. You are free to go." Kanna grins in excitement as he removes the wires and IV from her body. "Have a good day." She turns to Tenzin with a gleam in her eye that he hasn't seen in a while.
"Let's go home." A gleam of pure happiness.
•
Bolin excitingly leans over the railing of the boat with Pabu chilling on his shoulder. Asami leans back into Mako's arms as the couple gaze upon the island from behind Bolin. "I hope Kanna's back from the hospital. I can't wait to see her!" Bolin states and Pabu makes a noise to gain his attention. "I know bud, you're excited to see her too." The ferry pulls up the port on the island and the excitement in Bolin dies down a bit when he sees Kanna not there to greet them. He waves at Korra, Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, Naga and Lee.
"You're finally here!" Ikki cheers. One Air Acolyte on the ferry throws the anchor in the water while two others let down the ramp to allow the passengers to get off the boat. "Welcome to Air Temple Island, your new home!"
Meelo cuts in while pointing at himself, "Yes, welcome to my domain." The group on the ferry descends from the ramp, chuckling at Meelo's words.
"Well, aren't you sweet," Bolin leans in closer to Meelo, "little monk child." Pabu takes this opportunity to dash down Bolin's shoulder, run in between Meelo's legs before jumping on top of Lee. Meelo bends over and looks through his legs at Pabu in curiosity. He stands back up and points at Pabu while looking at Bolin.
"What's that fuzzy creature?" He questions. Naga approaches Lee and Pabu, kneeling slightly to sniff at Pabu. Pabu sniffs back cautiously before standing on his hind legs and gently touching Naga's nose with his paw.
"That is a fire ferret, an arboreal mammal common to the bamboo forest of the central Earth Kingdom." Jinora answers.
"He's cuuuute!" Ikki squeals and runs towards Pabu. Meelo airbends upward while an irritated Jinora plugs her ears by putting a finger into each of her ears to silence Ikki's shrieks. Pabu hisses at the young girl before leaving Lee's back and hiding underneath Naga. Unfortunately for the fire ferret, Ikki follows him which results in a game of chase between the two on the dock. Meelo falls upon Naga's head and decides to grab and pull the polar bear dog's ears backward.
"Yip yip! Fly sky bison! Fly!" Meelo commands. Korra watches the children, knowing that they would all be in trouble for behaving in such a way in front of guests if Kanna was here.
"Thanks for sending the Air Acolytes to help us with the move." Mako says to Korra as Asami and Bolin join them.
"Yes, they've been amazing. Such tireless workers." Asami comments as they watch as two Air Acolytes carry several trunks of luggage down the ramp.
"Oh, I thought you were only bringing a," the two Air Acolytes stumble a bit causing the luggage to threaten to topple onto her, "few things." She shrieks before the duo are able to balance everything again.
"Trust me, it could've been worse." Mako states, gazing at the duo walking towards the temple.
"No problem, everyone here wants you guys to feel welcome." Korra smiles at them and the group begins their journey to the Air Temple. Naga, Lee and Pabu are playfully chasing each other around as Ikki runs around with her arms outstretched and singing.
"You're pretty, can I have some of your hair?" Meelo asks while holding out his hand towards Asami.
"Looks like I have some competition." Mako jokingly says. The group comes to a stop and Ikki decides to take charge.
"And now for the grand tour," Ikki speaks very quickly while pointing at each area while saying them," the flying bison sleep in those caves down there, and that's the temple Grandpa Aang built, and that's the greenhouse where we grow the vegetables we eat." She turns around to have the teens with a wide grin on her face.
"I have a couple of questions." Bolin says which causes Ikki to stop grinning. He mimics Ikki while asking, "is this an all vegetarian island? Is that where you train airbending? Do we have to wear Air Acolyte clothes? Do we each get our own sky bison? And final question, how many trees are on this island?" He bends down and gazes at Ikki while waiting for her answers.
"Yes. Yes. No. No. Ten thousand five hundred and fifty two." Ikki replies with her hands behind her head, rocking back and forth on her feet.
"So, where are we going to be staying?" Mako questions.
"You're a boy. Boys have to stay on the boys' side." Meelo replies.
"I'd be happy to show you to the men's dormitory." Jinora informs him and the two begin walking away.
"I'm a boy!" Bolin shouts while rushing to join the pair.
"Meelo, why don't you go with the boys too?" Korra more demands than asks Meelo when she notices him still with the girls and staring at Asami.
" We shall meet again soon, beautiful woman." He winks at Asami and quickly joins the other group.
"Ikki and I will take you to your room this way." Korra and Ikki lead Asami to her room.
"Any word on Kanna yet?" Asami quietly asks, not wanting to ruin the happy atmosphere yet she cannot stop worrying about the water bender.
"Tenzin is at the hospital right now to check on her." Korra sighs and the pit of worry that was in her stomach earlier returns. "I hope I healed her enough in time for them to save her." Asami observes the expression on Korra's face before a thought clicks in her head.
"Kanna is really lucky to have a friend like you." Asami tells Korra and reaches over to pat her shoulder. "I'm sure she's doing fine and she'll be back here soon."
"I hope so, I couldn't sleep last night and Tenzin wouldn't let me go with him because I needed to stay here to greet you guys." Korra finds herself cracking her knuckles in an attempt to distract herself.
"Kanna is strong! And brave!" Ikki throws her hands up in the air while screaming. "She'll be back here in no time!"
•
Kanna stumbles after Tenzin, her legs feeling a little weak after not using them for a bit. She curses angrily and slaps her leg. "Don't hurt yourself," Tenzin calls out from a couple feet in front of her, "you just need to continue walking and your legs will be back to normal."
"You know, maybe the Protector of the Avatar needs a protector for herself." Kanna mumbles to herself while following Tenzin. "How can people expect an eighteen year old girl to take care and protect the seventeen year old Avatar? I'm barely an adult, I can't even take care of myself," Tenzin hears her mumbles and slowly turns to face her with a concerned expression on his face. "Is it too late for a new Protector to be appointed? I'll just join the circus and then I won't be injured anymore. Maybe then I wouldn't have been kidnapped by the weird mask dude and been a spy."
"Are you okay?" Tenzin interrupts.
"Yes I am okay!" She shouts and throws her hands up in the air. "I am perfectly, one hundred percent, okay!" A few bystanders pause to stare at her. "What are you looking at? You want to throw hands with me? Put them up!" Tenzin quickly grabs the back of her shirt and briskly walks away from the scene.
"Breaking news! Chief Lin Beifong steps down from her position," Kanna stops her yelling and snaps her heads towards the tv in a shop's windows that are broadcasting the news.
"Why would she do that?" Kanna immediately asks Tenzin.
"She felt like she failed as a chief because her metal benders were captured by Amon and you got injured on her watch." He sighs. "She decided that she's going to take down Amon, but outside of the law."
"And she started this hunt without me? Where is she now, she can't do this alone." Kanna struggles to break out of Tenzin's viper grip on her shirt.
"Kanna, stop," Kanna freezes upon the tone of serious in his voice, "you need to stop throwing yourself in harms way. Lin is a very capable bender, trust her and leave this one to her." She reluctantly nods her head. "Good, now let's hurry home. Your friends should be moving into the temple right now."
She gasps, "my friends," and begins to sprint towards the direction of the temple, dragging Tenzin along for the ride.
•
"Asami, did you know Korra likes Mako?" Ikki asks Asami as the trio walk in the girls dormitory. Korra stops in her tracks as her eyes grow wide open in horror. She imagines herself inhumanly screams at Ikki in horror, fire burning and lightning striking behind her. She snaps back into reality and looks around with fear as Asami looks uncomfortable with the topic.
"Oh. Uh, no. I wasn't completely aware of that." Asami says in surprise, shifting her eyes around in discomfort. Korra grabs Asami's arm and drags her further along the corridor. She slides open the doors to a room, and moves to the side, smiling and gesturing to Asami in an inviting manner to enter the room. Ikki attempts to follow them into the room, but Korra quickly slams the doors shut in front of her, making her step back.
"Hey!" Ikki protests.
"Run along, Ikki!" Korra shouts.
Ikki looks down and moans sadly. Suddenly, she looks up and acts out like an angry cat with glowing white eyes, making some cat noises as she claws at the air before growling at the doors and folding her arms in annoyance while looking away.
"So, here's your room. I know this is a little rustic compared to what you're used to." Korra scratches the back of her head awkwardly.
"I think it's really charming." Asami comments while walking over to the window, "and the best part about it, nothing here reminds me of my father." She sighs and turns to face Korra. "Thank you for your hospitality." A bang on the door interrupts the two.
"Ikki! I swear if you don't leave us alone, I'm gonna-" Korra screams in anger as Asami watches in shock. Her screaming stops abruptly when Tenzin slides open the doors. "Uh, Tenzin! Come right in."
"Good day, ladies. Asami, welcome to the island." Tenzin enters the room and greets Asami.
"Thank you for having me." The two bow to each other.
"Beifong's replacement, Saikhan, is going to be inducted as the new Chief of Police later. I think we should both be there." Tenzin tells Korra.
"I'm not going without Kanna. How is she? Where is she?" Korra inquiries, her worry only intensifying at the sight of Tenzin returning without her.
"I feel so loved." Korra snaps her heads towards the doors to see Kanna standing there with a smile on her face. "I hear I have you to thank for no injuries." Korra smiles in relief before rushing towards Kanna, tackling the girl in a tight hug. Kanna laughs, hugging the girl back just as tightly. Asami watches from the sidelines with a knowing grin on her face as she ponders over what Ikki said earlier.
'Oh Ikki, she might like Mako but I think her heart lies somewhere else.' Asami thinks as Korra and Kanna continue to hug and whisper to each other with little laughs here and there. 'Even if the two don't even realize it yet themselves.'
•
Kanna crosses her arms, angrily staring at Saikhan standing at the podium in front of the Police Headquarters. "It was an honor serving under Chief Beifong for so many years and I wish her a speedy recovery. It is with great humility," Kanna snorts at the lie, "that I take her place as the new Chief of Police. Republic City is facing a threat like none the world has ever seen but there is one man who's been effective against Amon's revolution, Councilman Tarrlok." Tarrlok nods his head and Kanna narrows her eyes at him. She always has gotten a negative vibe from him. "That is why for all matters involving the Equalists, I will report directly to him." Kanna gasps, turning to Korra and Tenzin to see them equally as surprised. "The police department will lend any and all available resources to the councilman and his task force until we quell this insurgency."
"What is that weasel snake Tarrlok up to now?" Korra asks as the trio stare at the man in disdain.
"Whatever it is, it's not good." Kanna states. As the crowd disperses after the inauguration, Tarrlok gives the Fire Nation councilwoman a hands, who leaves with the other council members; he bows after them in their direction. The trio quickly approach him.
"Tarrlok, I don't know what you did to get Chief Saikhan in your pocket but I highly doubt it was legal." Tenzin accusingly says.
"Oh, Tenzin. Always the conspiracy theorist. Did you ever consider Saikhan simply recognizes my talents and wants what is best for this city?" Kanna scoffs as Tenzin grunts in disgust. "Well, Avatar Korra and Protector Kanna. Long time, no see." He grins and faces Korra completely. "Now that your little pro-bending distractions are over, I look forward to your return to my task force," he glances at Kanna, "both of you."
"Ha!" Korra folds her arms. "Forget it! There's no way I'm rejoining your vanity project."
"Neither am I. Your task force is a joke just like you." Kanna grind and high fives Korra.
"That is unfortunate to hear, but I'm sure you'll come to your senses as you have in the past." Tarrlok says.
"Don't hold your breath, bub. You know, Tenzin's been right about you all along. You played me, you played Beifong, and now you're playing the new Chief too." She angrily walks up to him. "Well, I got news for you. You need me, but I don't need you. I'm the Avatar."
"You're not, in fact, the Avatar." Korra's face softens with surprise and Kanna finds herself bristling in anger at his words. "You are merely a half-baked Avatar in training, which reminds me, how is your airbending going? Made any significant progress with that?" Korra looks down in defeat, clenching her teeth. "I didn't think so and you," he turns to face Kanna, "how's protecting her going? From what I hear, you suck at your job and you have yet to master water bending." Kanna's anger vanishes as self-loathing replaces it. "If you will not be part of my task force, then you have best stay out of my way." Tarrlok leaves the girls. Tenzin gently places a hand on each girls' shoulder. The trio quickly get on Oogi and make their way back to the temple. Kanna gazes at the city underneath them, Tarrlok's words still rattling around in her head. How could she be mad at the truth? She does suck at being a protecter and she still needs to train more with water bending before being considered a master.
"I don't understand what's wrong with me. I've memorized nearly all of the practice forms, but I still can't produce a single measly puff of air! I'm a failure." Korra states.
"No you're not. You just need to work through this airbending block." Tenzin says, shaking his head.
"Amazing advice. I'll get right on that." Korra sarcastically comments, leaning back to rest her head in Kanna's lap. The girl quietly begins to play with Korea's hair. Korra frowns upon seeing the frustrated expression on Kanna's face.
"I wasn't finished yet. You see, Aang not only had his bending teachers, but also his past lives to call upon for guidance. Have you ever made contact with your past lives?" Tenzin asks.
"No, of course I haven't. Didn't you get the memo from the White Lotus? I'm a spiritual failure, too." Korra informs him.
"You may have made a connection without realizing it. Perhaps something you mistook as a dream?" Tenzin continues to question.
"Maybe. I had a few weird hallucinations, but I hardly even remember them." Korra admits.
"And did you see any previous Avatars in these visions?" Tenzin inquiries, turning to face the girls.
"I saw Aang. It seemed like he was in trouble. What do you think it means?" Korra props herself up on her elbows to look at Tenzin better.
"Hmm, I don't know." He strokes his beard, "but I urge you to meditate on these visions. I believe Aang's spirit must be trying to tell you something." He notices the unusual quietness from Kanna and frowns. He goes to address it when he catches the look Korra shots him. A look the clearly says, 'leave her alone.' He turns back around to see the Air Temple in sight.
•
"Kanna, this is your mentor, Ritaki Hiriko." Tenzin introduces. Kanna carefully eyes the approaching woman, taking in her ebony black hair and amber eyes. Kanna goes to shake her hand when suddenly, she feels her body moving without to her permission. She grunts and tries to fight it as her hands are bent awkwardly to the side.
"I see she's not very good at manipulating blood yet." Ritaki observes. "Come on, oh great Protector Kanna. Break out of my control and fight me." She forces Kanna to kneel on all fours in front of her and bends down. "I don't think I can mentor someone who lacks determination." Kanna clenches her teeth together before emitting a scream as she manipulates her own blood to fight against Ritaki's control. Ritaki immediately steps back with a grin on her face. Kanna quickly stands up and shoots a stream of water towards Ritaki, who halts it and sends it. In a swift spinning motion, Kanna sends the stream toward Ritaki again. Ritaki deflects the attack and sends a highly pressurized water jet at her. Kanna uses her hands to block the attack, disintegrating the water into droplets. Ritaki suddenly stiffens and is unable to make another attack. "Look at that, she does bite." Kanna releases Ritaki from her hold. The woman cracks her neck and shakes out her limbs. "I was taught by a man named Yakone to blood bend. He would be impressed to see another person bending blood without the help of the full moon. You have natural skills, you just need to harness them." Ritaki turns around and begins to leave. "I'll see you later, Kanna."
"Katara chose her to be my mentor?" Kanna questions with disdain in her voice.
"Don't question my mother's choice. She has good reason to assign you to Ritaki." Tenzin pauses, "I think she does at least." Kanna scoffs, shaking her head and stomps off. "That meeting could've gone worst." Tenzin states while glancing over at Lee who snorts before following Kanna.
•
Kanna quickly finds Korra who is sitting on the edge of the temple, staring at the statue of Avatar Aang. She takes a seat next to her and stares up at the night sky.
"Will I always be such a failure?" Korra asks.
"You're not a failure, Korra. Every Avatar has an element that clashes with their personality. Take Aang for example, he was a master at air bending yet he struggled with earth bending. Air bending is about patience and passivity. It has negative jing meaning it's a retreating element. Earth bending is about waiting and being stubborn which is why it has neutral jing. You are a master at water bending because it is a mixture of positive and negative, but you're more in tune with positive jing which is attacking. You just need to bring all your jing in harmony and you'll be able to air bend." Korra smiles at Kanna's reassuring words and leans her head on Kanna's shoulder. The two girls sit in silence for a few moments until the silence is broken by Mako.
"Korra? Kanna? You guys out here?" The two turn in the direction of the voice to see Pabu peeking his head out from a bush. He chirps and rushes towards the duo with Lee behind him. The animals wrap themselves around the girls' necks. Korra laughs and strokes Pabu's head as Kanna kisses Lee on the cheek.
" Korraaa! Kannnaaa!" Bolin, Asami, and Mako find them and Pabu runs back to Bolin and climbs up onto his shoulder. "There you two are. Are you okay , Korra?" He pauses, sensing something off in the air.
"I'm fine." Korra shrugs.
"Come on, what's wrong? You can tell us." Mako pushes.
"How am I suppose to save this city when I can't even learn airbending? I'm the worst Avatar ever! I just feel ... alone." Kanna gently rubs Korra's back.
"Alone? You have all of us!" Kanna says with the other three nodding their heads in agreement.
"No, that's nonsense! You're amazing!" Asami protests.
"Yeah and remember. Aang hadn't mastered all the elements when he was battling the Fire Nation. He was just a little kid." Mako comments.
"And he wasn't alone. He had his friends to help him. Look, the arena might be shut down but we're still a team. The new Team Avatar!" Bolin states.
"We got your back, and we can save this city." Asami, Bolin and Mako place their hands on each other. "Together." Mako says. Korra and Kanna stand up before putting their hands on top of theirs.
"Yeah, let's do it!" Korra shouts. Meelo suddenly descends and airbends down, farting on top on their hands as they express their shock and disgust by widening their eyes.
"Yeah, let's do it! What are we doing?" The new team laughs heartily while Meelo grins goofily as he continues to fart.
•
"Get ready, Republic City, you are about to be patrolled by Team Avatar." Bolin says in a deep voice making Kanna laugh at his antics.
"Okay Batman." She jokes.
"I am the dark knight." He swipes an arm over his face and shifts his eyes back and forth. "I'm the hero this city needs, but doesn't deserve." She snorts, shaking her head at hun. He smiles at her and holds up two thumbs. "It's nice to see you happy again."
"Am I never happy?" Kanna cocks an eyebrow in question.
"No, you've just been a bit moody since you came back." He shrugs. "I'm glad I can still make you laugh." Asami approaches the team wielding an electrified glove as Korra leads Naga over.
"Asami, you always know how to accessorize your outfits." Mako comments.
"I figure one way to fight Equalists is to use an Equalist weapon." She smiles and conducts electricity from the glove.
"All right," Korra punches her palm. "Let's ride." Kanna, Korra, Asami and Mako are all seated on Naga when Bolin tries to jump on.
"Naga away!" Bolin shouts while pointing a finger at the city. Naga bends down, causing the New Team Avatar to slide off her and fall on top of each other. Naga growls and shakes her head.
"All right, scratch that. Any other ideas?" Korra asks.
"Hmm. I think I have the answer." Asami leaves for a moment before returning with a car. "You think this'll do?" Kanna, Mako, Bolin, and Korra smile at her and they all jump into the car.
"I like the new Team Avatar's style." Mako states. Asami changes gears and they drive off to patrol the city.
•
"Unit two sixteen, cancel that ten fifty-eight at Harmony Tower. Come back to the station, over." They all listen to the police scanner.
"My dad had police scanners installed in all of his cars. I guess now I know why." Asami explains.
"Calling all units, Level Four Alert. Jailbreak at headquarters. Officers down, electrocuted. Chi blockers and Equalist convicts are still at large armed and dangerous. Last seen heading east. I repeat, Level Four Alert. Equalist jailbreak!" Asami stops the car as a truck and several Equalist motorcyclists rush through the traffic.
"Chi blockers!" Bolin screams.
"That's them!" Mako yells.
"Bastards!" Kanna joins in with the yelling.
"Let's get 'em!" Korra exclaims. Asami changes gears and begins the car chase. Cars twirl and stop from crashing into the truck as it plows through the street. Asami dodges the cars and still tails the chi blockers but a massive truck blocks their way.
"Korra! Bolin! Give me a ramp! Now!" Asami orders. Korra and Bolin earthbend a massive ramp that sends the car soaring into the air before landing safely, resuming their chase. Mako uses his lightning and strikes one of the chi blocker's motorcycle, making the chi blocker fall to the ground. Bolin earthbends earth darts, hitting the wheel of another motorcycle, causing the chi blocker to fall. Kanna wraps a jet of water around the tire of one motorcycle and pulls, causing that chi blocker to also fall. Asami quickly dodges the fallen cyclists. The rest of the chi blockers begin to use a smoke screen and move right in front of them. Not being able to see, Asami puts on her goggles and notices the chi blockers turning to the right. "Help me out! We gotta make this turn!" Korra and Bolin earthbend a giant, angled curve, making the car swerve up before landing back onto the street and they resume the chase. "They don't know we made the turn. Okay, get ready."
Asami changes gears and the car gains speed to ram the motorcyclists, flinging them into the air before landing on top of the bonnet. Mako firebends but his arm is wrapped up by the Equalist's bola. Mako uses his other arm, but it becomes wrapped up as well. The other Equalist jumps in front of Bolin and chi blocks his arm before he can even attack, making him the fall back into his seat with pain. Kanna quickly shoots water jets at the chi blocker, pushing him away from Bolin and towards Asami. She electrocutes the chi blocker with her glove, causing the Equalist to fall onto the back seat.
The other Equalist attempts to pull Mako out of his seat, but Korra and Kanna quickly grab his shoulders and pulls him down, causing the Equalist to fall over onto the car, where Asami electrocutes him also. Mako chucks the unconscious Equalist to the back and prepares to do another lightning strike. Asami drives the car closer to the truck so the driver is visible and Mako shoots his lightning at the driver. The driver becomes unconscious and the truck begins to swerve before tumbling to its sides, hitting the lamp post before it stopped. Kanna quickly creates an ice block around the truck to do it from hurting any innocent people. The team get out of the car and smile as photos are taken by reporters. Korra and Kanna smirk when they see Tarrlok approaching them.
"Avatar Korra, what do you think you are doing?" Tarrlok angrily asks.
"Oh, hey Tarrlok. Nice of you to show up finally. Here, we captured the escaped convicts for you." Korra mockingly replies.
"What you did was tear up the city and impede the real authorities in their pursuit of these criminals." Tarrlok practically hisses and Kanna swears she can see steam coming out of his ears.
"Hmm, that's funny. I didn't see your little task force or the cops the whole time. If it wasn't for Team Avatar, they would've gotten away." Korra inspects her fingers with a nonchalant attitude emitting from her. Kanna tries not to laugh at how angry Tarrlok is becoming towards her.
"This is your last warning. Stay out of my way!" He turns back and drives away while Team Avatar smiles in victory.
"Well he wasn't happy." Kanna comments.
"Is he ever happy?" Korra asks.
"True." Kanna states before the group erupts into laughter.
•
"Republic City stands as a beacon of freedom, but the Equalists are using that freedom to tear it down. The law I have proposed would make it illegal for anyone to be a member of the Equalists or even be associated with them. It also puts into effect a curfew, ensuring all nonbenders are in their own homes by nightfall." Tarrlok introduces his idea to the council in City Hall.
"This is going too far, Tarrlok," Tenzin stands up, "You can't punish all nonbenders for the actions of a few!"
"That kind of cowardice will cause our city to fall into Amon's hands. We must pass this law. All in favor?" The councilmen raise their hands as Tenzin sighs angrily while Tarrlok smiles mischievously.
•
Team Avatar are resting and eating their dumplings, when the radio suddenly starts buzzing. Kanna snaps her heads towards it.
"All available units, please respond to the fifty six hundred block of Dragon Flats borough. Equalists have taken to the streets, consider them armed and dangerous. Proceed with caution." Everyone moves into the car. Bolin jumps besides Asami.
"I call front!" Bolin shouts.
"After you ladies." Mako allows Kanna and Korra to enter before him.
"What a gentleman," Mako helps Korra into the car, "thanks!" Both jump into the car, smiling at each other as Asami adjusts the mirrors, narrowing her eyes at them in disdain. Despite knowing that Korra seems to truly like Kanna without realizing it, it still bothers her knowing that Korra has a crush on her boyfriend. She makes eye contact with Kanna who is also staring at the two in disdain. The girls slyly shake their heads before Asami starts the car and drives off to the Dragon Flats borough, where police airships are circling around an area plunged in darkness.
"Why is the power out?" Korra questions. The car swerves around the corner and stops. Asami takes off her goggles as they look at hundreds of nonbenders protesting at the metalbending police officers who are holding them behind a blockade.
"Wait a second, these people aren't armed or dangerous." Asami says in confusion.
"No, they can't be doing what I think they're doing." Kanna expresses, staring at the police force in disappointment.
"Sure doesn't look that way." They turn to see Saikhan speaking through a microphone.
"All nonbenders, return to your homes immediately." Saikhan orders.
" Yeah, as soon as you turn our power back on." Cries of protests in agreement began to stir.
"Disperse, or you will all be arrested." Saikhan threatens.
"This is because of the Equalists." Kanna mumbles. "They're gonna discriminate against non-benders because they think they're all apart of Amon's movement." The group gasps in realization after hearing Kanna.
"You benders can't treat us this way!" A female shouts while holding a toddler as her other child tugs at her skirt and points at Korra.
"Mummy, look! It's the Avatar!" The child gushes causing people turn around and rush toward Korra.
"Please, help us! You're our Avatar, too!" The mother pleads.
Korra strides forward, pushing two metalbender officers aside. "Everyone, please stay calm. I'm gonna put a stop to this." She turns along with her friends as they search for Tarrlok who is talking to a task force member. "Tarrlok, you need to turn the power back on and leave these people alone."
"Avatar Korra, you and your playmates have no business here." Tarrlok sternly states.
"We're not going anywhere. You don't have the right to treat these innocent people like criminals." Korra says.
"This is an Equalist rally. There is nothing innocent about it." Tarrlok tells them.
"We both know that's bullshit." Kanna hisses, stalking closer to him. "These people have done nothing wrong. You just want to feel like you're in control and shows the benders that you're not a failure when it comes to stopping the Equalists. This is not going to happen." She stands firmly in front of the non-benders.
"They're not Equalists, they're just normal people who want their rights back." Asami agrees with Kanna.
"They are the enemy! Round up all these Equalists!" Tarrlok orders. Metalbender officers begin to earthbend, removing the legs from the barriers and forcing the people back as they coil the barriers around them. The metalbenders slam their legs into the ground, causing large mounds of earth to rise underneath the nonbenders, lifting them off the ground. Fear begins to spread through those not caught, and they start running away. The police force prepares to put people into the police trucks, while Team Avatar looks on aghast. Kanna acts on impulse, pushing the officers away with harsh jets of water and creating a wall of ice to let the non-benders have more time to escape and hide.
"Let's go!" She shouts, shooting more water at the officers charging at her. She shouts in alarm when multiple chains wrap around her body. She collapses onto the ground, but continues to release water from her feet at the officers approaching.
"Take her with them." Tarrlok tells them. Kanna is lifted up by two officers and they escort her to the vehicle.
"Stop!" Korra earthbends the mounds of earth down so every one can escape. Tarrlok snarls at her, and turns to see Asami running over to Kanna to help her. He bends a water whip to grab onto Asami's wrist. Asami turns and looks up at him.
"Hey! Let me go!" Asami shouts, struggling to escape.
"You're under arrest!" Tarrlok yells.
"What? You can't do that!" Mako exclaims in shock. Asami is grabbed by the task force and taken to where Kanna is.
"Actually, I can. She's a nonbender out past curfew and her father is a known Equalist conspirator." Tarrlok defends himself.
"Let her go!" Mako growls.
"And let Kanna go!" Bolin protests.
"Arrest them!" The metalbending officers coil their cables around the brothers and pull them in.
"Tarrlok!" Korra shouts angrily and earthbends two massive rocks on either side of her.
"Unless you want to join your friends in prison, I suggest you put those down and go back to the Air Temple." Tarrlok threatens.
"Korra, listen to him. It's not worth it." Mako says and Kanna nods her head in agreement. Korra reluctantly drops the rocks back down.
"We'll be all right." Bolin calls out.
"Get Tenzin!" Kanna shouts at Korra.
"Don't worry, I'll call Tenzin. He can get you out." Korra watches in dismay as her friends are placed in the police truck and taken away.
"So sad to see your little Team Avatar broken up. You had a good run." Tarrlok mocks her.
"This isn't over, Tarrlok." Korra points at him.
"Oh, I believe it is."

Tenzin walks up toward Korra, who attempts to talk to the person behind the counter without success. "Hey!" She shouts and her fists hit the counter.
"I came as fast as I could. Are your friends and Kanna all right?" Tenzin asks.
"I don't know! These knuckleheads won't tell me anything." Korra says in frustration.
"I'll take care of this. Saikhan, a word please." Tenzin says to the new police chief.
"Councilman Tenzin, I'm pretty swamped at the moment. Can this wait?" Saikhan asks.
"No, it cannot. Three of Avatar Korra's friends were wrongly arrested tonight along with Protector Kanna. I'd like you to release them immediately." Tenzin says.
"They're not going anywhere. They were interfering with police business." Saikhan states.
"Your so called police business was rounding up innocent people and claiming they were Equalists. They should be released, too." Korra comments.
"All Equalists suspects are being detained indefinitely. They'll be freed if and when the task force deems they are no longer a threat." Saikhan states.
"Those people are entitled to due process under the law." Tenzin protests.
"You'll have to take that up with Councilman Tarrlok." Saikhan shrugs.
"Oh, I plan to. At the council meeting, first thing in the morning." Tenzin informs him.
"You're officially the worst Chief of Police ever!" Korra grips Saikhan's chin, moving his head up and down.
"Calm down, Korra," Tenzin pulls Korra away, "I'll get this sorted out, we just need to be patient." Korra and Tenzin turn and start to walk away before Tenzin stops and turns. "But you really are the worst!" As he turns the leave again, he once more quickly turns back and points at Saikhan. "Ever!" Both he and Korra walk away.
"I can't believe this." Korra growls.
"Don't worry, Kanna is taking good care of your friends. They wouldn't separate them." Tenzin assures her.
Oh how wrong Tenzin was.

Korra lies on her bed, angry at herself and opens the window to look at Republic City. She turns to Naga and Lee who are slumbering next to her bed. "Wake up, Naga. Let's go."
Korra rides on Naga with Lee on her head as they come closer to the building. Korra slips down from Naga and sets Lee on her back. "Wait for me here, girl." Naga moves her head with concern, but Korra rubs her head against hers. "Don't worry, I'll be all right and Lee is here to keep you company."She walks away.
Tarrlok is working with the council page before the window bursts open, blowing papers everywhere. They look up to see Korra standing at the window. "You and I need to talk." Korra jumps in and walks up to Tarrlok, who's face contorts with anger.
"Are any of the other council members here?" Tarrlok asks his assistant.
"I believe everyone has gone home for the night." He replies.
"Then you should do the same."
"Are you sure, sir?"
"Leave us." The council page looks at Korra before looking back at Tarrlok. He bows and quickly walks away. "You obviously have something on your mind? Spit it out." Tarrlok demands.
"Don't you see? You're doing exactly what Amon says is wrong with benders. You're using your power to oppress and intimidate people!" Korra shouts.
"And you don't?" Tarrlok questions.
"Of course not!" She protests.
"Isn't that what you came here to do? Intimidate me into releasing your friends. See, that's what I admire about you, Korra. Your willingness to go to extremes in order to get what you want. It is a quality we both share." He smirks.
"You and I are nothing alike!" She yells at him in anger.
"Look, I'll make you a deal. You fall in line and do what I say and I'll release your friends." He negotiates.
"That's why you arrested them? To get to me?" She asks.
"I need your answer." He presses her.
"No. You might be able to manipulate Chief Saikhan into following you, but it won't work on me." She answers.
"You will regret that decision." Tarrlok informs her.
"You need to be stopped! You're just as bad as Amon!"
"I've tried to work with you, Korra, but you've made it impossible." Tarrlok turns around, suddenly slicing a stream of water from the waterfall at her. Korra barely dodges, only a small section of her hair being cut. She rolls and earthbends at Tarrlok, forcing him back and causing him to hit his back on the wall. Korra raises her arms and holds it straight while shooting a blast of fire toward Tarrlok, who protects himself by waterbending a dome around him. He thrusts his hands forward repeatedly behind the dome, firing several ice darts toward Korra, who flips back to try and dodge them, but still gets grazed as she lands. She attempts to punch the ice darts away, but one catches her on her side, and she lifts her hands up to protect her head. Tarrlok continues to throw ice darts at her with a sadistic smile, but Korra earthbends a wall to protect herself. She thrusts her arm forward, earthbending the wall behind Tarrlok into him, causing him to fly through the wall into the council chambers. He tries to right himself, but trips over the railing and begins to fall, grabbing the railing with his hand, his hair loose over his face as he glares.
"Still think that I'm a half-baked Avatar?" She earthbends, causing Tarrlok to fall to the ground. She jumps off and punches the ground, causing a gigantic hole around her. She looks up at him with anger, breathing heavily. "What are you gonna do now? You're all out of water, pal."
Tarrlok moves away in fear as Korra begins to firebend from her palms. She runs toward him intending to vaporize him, but she is halted by Tarrlok as he begins to perform bloodbending. Korra groans in pain as he continues, making her fall to her knees. "You're in my way Avatar, and you need to be removed." He growls.
"You're, you're a bloodbender?" Korra gawks.
"Very observant." He says sarcastically.
"It's not a full moon! How- how are you doing this?!" She struggles to break free of his control.
"There are a lot of things you don't know about me. And a lot do things you don't know about Kanna apparently either." Korra furrows her eyebrows at his words. Tarrlok bloodbends her and flings her across the room into a pillar. Korra begins to lose consciousness as Tarrlok approaches her. She then faints.
In her unconscious, she sees visions. One vision is of Kanna blood bending the Equalists in Sato's factory. How did she not notice her own friend and protector being able to blood bend without the full moon? The scene changes to Sokka yelling in pain from the bloodbending of some dude. The name Yakone pops into her head. Toph tries to metalbend her cables, but she too is bloodbent. Aang struggles to move closer to Yakone, who laughs at him, an expression of determination in his eyes. The visions fade as Korra slowly wakes up to find Tarrlok has binded her with ropes. She lifts up her head.
"Where are you taking me?" Korra asks.
"Somewhere no one will find you. Don't worry, Kanna is already there so she can keep you company." Korea's eyes widen. "Say goodbye to Republic City, Avatar Korra. You'll never see it again!" He begins to close the doors as Korra firebends a breath of fire from her mouth, screaming in anger. Tarrlok manages to close it in time and slams a fist on the door before walking up to start driving.
"You can't do this! Let me out!" He begins to drive away. "Garh!" She screams.

Kanna stares at the ceiling of the cell she is imprisoned in. She sighs and rubs her face tiredly. "I should've known Tarrlok would be able to bloodbend. I should've listened to the negative vibes I got from him." She glances over at the rock he left in her cell for some reason and furrows her eyebrows. She quietly crawls over to it, observing how sharp the rock is. "Might as well," she takes the rock and quickly swipes it across her hand. She watches the blood slowly drip from her hand and onto the floor. She concentrates on the blood, feeling a slight pain behind her eyes as she finally get the blood to freeze in mid air. "It's so much harder to manipulate your own blood." She grumbles. Suddenly, she hears people entering the place she's held in. She freezes upon hearing a familiar voice.
"Korra?"
