Chapter Nine

¥ Out Of The Past ¥

'THE WORLD IS TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING, LISTEN.'

I do not one Legend of Korra or the Last Airbender, all credit goes to the people who made the two happen. I only own Kanna and the things I make up along the way. Most of the script comes from the person who created it. Descriptions come from the show I've watched and the things I've read.

Kanna Kya

Tarrlok steps in through a door that leads to a basement, using bloodbending to levitate Korra several inches off the ground in front of him. Korra groans as he levitates her down the stairs and into the box.

"What are you doing?" Korra chokes out.

"Korra?" Korra's eyes widen at the sound of Kanna's voice. A sense of relief fills her, knowing that Kanna and her will get out of this together. When Korra is entirely in the box, he releases his bloodbending grip on her, causing her to land, and slams the metal door shut; aggressively.

"Tarrlok!" Korra begins pounding on the door as Tarrlok walks up the stairs. "You can't keep us in here forever!" Tarrlok steps outside and gets back into his vehicle. He drives away, revealing that their prison is in a remote location in the middle of snowy mountains. "Kanna," Korra drops to her knees next to the girl and pulls her into a hug. "When did you get here?"

"When the group got separated to get placed in our cells, Tarrlok escorted me away from everyone because he said I was too dangerous to be in the same cell with anyone. In reality, he knocked me out using his blood bending and I woke up here." Kanna explains, carefully watching how Korra flinches at the word blood bend. "Are you okay?"

"Why did you never tell me that you could blood bend?" Korra questions and tries not to wince at the horrified look that overcomes Kanna's face.

"He told you?" She croaks as a lump forms in her throat.

"He implied it and I finally remembered what you did on Sato's factory and connected the dots." Korra says softly.

"Blood bending is not a good element, Korra. It's dangerous and disgusting. It's even illegal in the city. If anyone found out, I could be arrested. How was I suppose to tell you that I had a natural affinity to it?" Kanna laughs humorlessly. She glances down at her hand as her thoughts run wild. It was bad enough that Tenzin knew and told Katara, now Korra knows. The few people in Kanna's life that she has to look up to and cling to for support. She briefly wonders how her parents would've reacted to her affinity to blood bending. Would her mother look at her in fear? Would her father disown her? Would they have hated her very being?

"Kanna, there's nothing wrong with being able to bend blood. I'm just shocked that you never told me. I thought we were closer than that." Korra expresses. The hurt she felt when she realized that Kanna never told her was a kind of hurt Korra never experienced before. It was like an aching pain that started in her heart and spread everywhere in her chest.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want you to look at me in fear and disgust." Kanna glances up with tears swelling in her eyes. Korra shakes her head and yanks the girl into a tighter hug.

"I could never fear you. You're Kanna, my best friend and protector." She mumbles, closing her eyes and resting her cheek on top of Kanna's head.

"I'm doing such a good job at protecting you." Kanna sarcastically comments, closing her eyes and leaning into Korea's warmth. The two girls sit in each other's embrace for a moment. The two pondering their own train of thoughts while focusing on the comforting nature of the other. "I'm gonna get us out of here." Kanna states in determination.

"I believe in you."

Tenzin and Pema are asleep in bed with Meelo between them when the phone starts ringing. Meelo sits up, rubs his eyes, and crawls over his father's face to answer the phone, waking him up in the process. "Who is this? It's six in the morning! This better be important!" Meelo says in annoyance. Tenzin quickly sits up and takes the phone from him, leaving him somewhat annoyed.

"Councilman Tenzin here." There's a pause before he screeches. "What?!"

Tenzin arrives to Coty Hall as quick as he could, noticing the electrified glove and several Equalists weapons. He glances over to see Tarrlok, who is having his arm wound healed by a male healer. "What happened? What was Korra doing at City Hall? And why was Kanna even here?"

"As I told Chief Saikhan," Tarrlok stands up as he rolls down his sleeve. "I released Kanna from her cell and took her to City Hall with me. I thought I could convince her to join my task force, but she kept refusing me. Then, Korra showed up. She was happy to see Kanna, but she was upset that I still arrested her and her other friends. She asked me to release the other three and," he takes a deep breath before continuing, "that's when the Equalists attacked. Kanna and I tried to protect Korra, but we were outnumbered. Kanna was quickly taken out by a group of them. Then, I was electrocuted. When I came to, the police had arrived. But they were gone." He Moves toward Tenzin and sighs regretfully. "I'm so sorry," he bows and turns to Saikhan. "Chief Saikhan, mobilize the entire police force. We have to find the Avatar and her Protector." Tenzin stares in shock at the crime scene. He cannot believe that Amon has his hands on Kanna once more and now he has Korra. He closes his eyes as worry overtakes him.

Lin Beifong is lying in bed while listening to the radio. "We interrupt your regularly scheduled broadcast to bring you this special report. Late last night, Equalists attacked City Hall," Lin sits upright, startled, and begins tuning the radio to listen more closely, "subduing Councilman Tarrlok and capturing Avatar Korra along with Protector Kanna. Details are still coming in, b-" Lin switches off the radio. She gets slowly out of bed, pausing for a moment to groan and hold her arm. She crosses to a cupboard and opens it, looking at her Metalbending Police uniform arranged inside. She stands in her underclothes with her back to the cupboard and metalbends her uniform onto her body. She glances down at the police insignia on her chest and tears it off, before putting on a long coat. She glared at the radio as determination sets in.

"Don't worry girls, I'll find you." She swears.

Asami is lying on her back on a cot in her cell when Lin metalbends the door off its hinges and tosses it away. She sits up, and stares at the woman in surprise.

"Hope you got enough beauty rest. Come on, I'm busting you out." Lin says.

"Thanks. I owe you." Asami grins. The two make their way to where the boys are being held.

Mako and Bolin are standing in their cell. Mako has his back to Bolin, who is attempting to pee in a toilet in the corner of the room. "Are you done yet?" Mako sighs.

"Cover your ears! I can't go with you listening." Bolin says before mumbling under his breath, "I'm pee shy." Mako groans and covers his ears. He glances up as the cell door is metalbent off its hinges.

"Asami!" Asami rushes towards him and the two embrace, exchanging a sweet kiss.

"Ahh!" Bolin blushes in embarrassment. "A little privacy, please!"

"Are you all right?" Mako asks, gently stroking her hair.

"I'm fine! It's so good to see you." Asami plants a kiss on his cheek.

"Hate to break up your lovers' reunion, but Korra and Kanna are in trouble. Amon captured them." Lin informs the group.

"No. No, they can't be gone!" Mako exclaims in horror as the trio stare at the woman in shock at the news.

"Kanna was with us last time we saw her, how did he get to her?" Asami mumbles in confusion.

"Come on, we have an Avatar and her Protector to rescue."The three teens run from inside the cell. There is a zipping noise and Bolin stops, squeaks, and blushes. "Your fly was down." Lin bluntly states.

"Thanks for catching that." Bolin squeaks out.

Kanna and Korra release war cries as they slam against the door to their cell. They pant and nod their heads, turning around to slam against opposite walls. Korra starts punching and kicking the walls while Kanna starts pounding on the ceiling.

"Somebody! Help! Please!" Korra cries out in desperation, feeling her body weaken with every slam, with every kick, and with every punch. She turns to face Kanna who is still throwing herself at the door before slumping to the ground.

'I urge you to meditate on these visions. I believe Aang's spirit is trying to tell you something.' Korra hears Tenzin's voice in her head.

"Kanna, can you stop for a moment? I'm going to try to mediate." Kanna immediately stops and takes a seat next to Korra. Kanna reaches out her hands and Korra grabs them while inhaling and assuming a meditative pose.

Suddenly, her mind drifts off and is replaced by a flashback of Aang's experiences. He is standing in a street and turns around as he hears multiple booted footsteps behind him.

"What are you doing here, Aang?" Toph asks with a tone of annoyance. "I told you, I have this under control."

"Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't get involved, but if what those victims said is true, we're not dealing with a normal criminal." Aang states.

"Fine. Follow me, Twinkle Toes."

Toph smiles.

"Toph, I'm forty years old. You think you could stop with the nicknames?" Aang asks in annoyance.

" 'Fraid not." Toph walks away with a smile still on her face. Aang grimaces and follows her. The group approaches a table in Kwong's Cuisine, where a man is eating. "It's over! You're under arrest, Yakone!" Yakone calmly has his head down and his eyes closed.

"What is Republic City coming to? Used to be, a man could enjoy his lunch in peace." Toph bends a cable from a spool at her belt around his wrist and yanks him forward, knocking over his table. A policeman comes to tie his arms behind him. "What's the big idea?" Yakone questions.

"We have dozens of witnesses, Yakone. We know what you are." Aang says.

"Take him away." Toph gestures towards the officers.

"I've beaten every trumped-up charge you yahoos have brought against me!" Yakone says confidently and arrogantly, "and I'll beat this one, too."

Kanna opens her eyes when she hears Korra gasp. "Whoa. I finally connected to Aang. He's trying to tell me something, but I can't tell what."

"What was the vision about?" Kanna inquiries.

"Aang and Toph were arresting a man named Yakone for some reason." Korra immediately sees the expression on Kanna's face at the name. "Do you know him?"

"Tenzin got me a mentor for blood bending, her name is Ritaki. She briefly mentioned a dude named Yakone. I can't remember what she said about him though, but I know they knew each other." Kanna explains. Korra furrows her eyebrow, trying to see if there's any dots to be connected. She sighs when she can't find any.

"I think I'm gonna try to connect with Aang again." Kanna nods and the two resume their meditative poses.

Lin, Mako, Bolin, and Asami walking into Tenzin's office and Tenzin is on the phone. "I have to go. Call me back the minute you hear anything." He hangs up and stands up; very surprised. "Lin? Wh-wh-what are y- What are y- You should be in the hospital! And you three! You should be in prison!" Tenzin points at the teens.

"I figured you could use our help finding Korra and Kanna." Lin states.

"Do you have any leads?" Mako asks, stepping forward anxiously.

" I've been on the phone all morning, but nothing yet." Tenzin sighs.

"We need Naga and Lee! They can track Korra and Kanna." Mako excitingly says.

"I'm afraid her polar bear dog and her arctic fox are missing as well." Tenzin informs the group.

"Then where do we start?" Bolin questions in dismay.

"My guess is the Equalists are hiding underground in the maze of tunnels beneath the city." Lin states.

"Underground ... just like my father's secret factory. Figures." Asami scoffs bitterly.

"Yeah! Yeah, that makes sense! When those chi blockers had me in their truck, it sounded like we drove into a tunnel!" Bolin exclaims, happy to contribute.

"I know where to start looking! Come on!" Mako, Bolin, and Asami rush from the room.

"Wherever Amon is keeping them, I bet that's where my officers are too." Lin says to Tenzin.

"Let's bring them all home, Lin." Tenzin pats her shoulder and the two follow the teens.

The group flies in on Oogi. They land in a deserted street and dismount off Oogi.Mako points down a road, "The truck with Bolin took off down this alley." The group jogs to the next intersection.

"Which way?" Asami asks.

"Hmm. This way kinda..." Bolin sniffs the air, "smells familiar." Lin metalbends the sole of her shoe back and uses seismic sense to test the ground.

"There's a tunnel nearby." Lin sets off as the rest of the group follows and slides down an embankment.

"There!" Mako says as the group approaches the large metal gate.

"Motorcycle tracks." Lin observes the tracks on the ground that lead into the tunnel.

"Korea and Kanna have to be in there ... somewhere." Mako comments. Lin metalbends the gate open and the group walks into an intersection of tunnels. Mako uses firebending to light the way. "Let's try this way." Mako starts to lead them down one tunnel.

"And what if they aren't down there?" Asami asks.

"Then we pick another tunnel until we find them." Mako says in a harsh tone and Asami looks hurt. She drops back to walk with Bolin.

"Hey, is Mako all right? He seems really worried about them." Asami asks.

"Yeah, we all are!" Bolin agrees.

"I know, but, he's your brother. Do you think that he likes Korra or Kanna as more than just a friend?" Asami inquiries, not liking how harsh Mako is being towards her over the two girls.

"W-What? No! That's, just gossip, where'd you hear that?" Bolin's voice becomes high pitched and squeaky as he gets nervous, he points to Asami. "Crazy talk is coming out of your mouth right now. Heh ..."

"What do you know, Bolin? Come on, spill it." Asami puts her hand on his shoulder and demands.

"Nothing! I mean, there was this one time where he hugged Kanna very lovingly and one time during the tournament when Mako and Korra kissed, but-" Bolin gets cut off by the shocked expression on Asami's face.

"They ... kissed?" She glances at Mako's back, only focusing on his relationship with Korra.

"Believe me, I was upset too, but, I'm over it. I don't think it meant anything." Bolin says in an attempt to lighten the mood and to not worry Asami.

"I doubt that." She sadly states and starts walking after the others when the noise of motorcycles is heard.

"Hide!" Lin orders and the five duck behind a pillar as the Equalist motorcycles approach. One Equalist flips a switch on his motorcycle dash that in turn opens a secret door in the opposite wall of the tunnel. The two motorcycles race inside and the door promptly closes. Lin makes a face and crosses the tunnel, followed by the others. She runs her hand across the door and uses metalbending to trigger the opening mechanism and force the door up. The group rushes in and the door closes behind them. They approach a large open space, where Equalists are loading supplies onto tram carts on tracks that lead into various tunnels. An Equalist with a clipboard is directing loading and traffic.

"That tram goes to the training camp." Tram disappears down a tunnel and he walks to another one that has just arrived. A female Equalist climbs down.

"Everything was delivered to the prison, sir." Both walk away.

"That's where they must be keeping them." Tenzin whispers.

"We need to get down that tunnel." Lin signals the group with her hand and they all run toward the tram and jump in. The tram starts to move down the tunnel. At the tunnel's exit, two Equalists are waiting for the tram. A light flashes and an alarm sounds to signal the tram's arrival. It coasts to a stop with nothing inside.

"It's empty!" One exclaims.

"Yeah, I can see that." The other one sarcastically states. From inside the tunnel, Lin uses her metalbending cables to grab the two Equalists and drag them inside. The two Equalists are shown tied up next to each other.

"You two, keep an eye on them." Lin orders Asami and Bolin as she uses her seismic sense to search the prison. "My officers are inside."

"What about Kanna? Or Korra?" Mako inquiries.

"I don't see them yet." Lin shakes her head. Mako, Lin, and Tenzin head off down the corridor. They turn the corner and see two Equalists, who prepare to attack them. Tenzin uses his airbending to knock them against a wall. Mako runs toward them and grabs one of them, removing his mask.

"Protector Kanna and Avatar Korra. Where are you keeping them?" Mako begins to angrily interrogate the dude. Lin peers into the prison cell, where her metalbending officers are being kept. She metalbends the bars apart and walks in.

"Chief Beifong?" One wearily says.

"I'm too late. That monster already took your bending, didn't he?" She asks. The officer nods his head. Lin looks down sadly. "I'm so sorry. Come on, let's gets you out of here." All the officers get up and follow Lin out of the cell.

"I'll ask you one more time," Mano angrily says while igniting his right hand, "where are they?"

"We don't have the Avatar, and the Equalists didn't attack City Hall. Tarrlok's lying." The Equalist weakly grabs Mako's arm as an attempt to protect himself.

"What?" Mako drops his arm in surprise, bringing the man to the ground. Lin walks up to them.

"I scanned the entire prison." Kanna and Korra arent not here." Lin informs them. Mako let's go of the man, who collapses while dispersing the flame in his hand.

"Why would Tarrlok make up a story about getting attacked?" Mako asks.

"Because he has them. He fooled us all!" Tenzin realizes. A siren starts sounds and the group runs back to where Bolin and Asami are standing guard.

"Let's go, people!" Bolin shouts as everyone gets into the tram, which takes off. Equalists in another tram start to catch up from behind. Bolin uses his earthbending to collapse the tunnel sides, causing the tram to crash in the rubble. "Try to chi block that, fools!" Lin, at the front of the tram, notices an army of Equalists waiting up ahead. Among them is the Lieutenant and several mecha tanks.

"We've got more company!" Lin shouts as she metalbends a rail from the ceiling onto the track. "Hang on!" The tram climbs the rail as Lin earthbends a hole in the ceiling. The tram flies through the gap and lands on the ground of the tunnel above. Everyone groans as Lin makes another hole on the ceiling and daylight streams in.

Kanna is sleeping soundlessly next to Korra as she connects with Aang again.

"Yakone has ruled Republic City's criminal empire for years. Yet he has always managed to stay out of the law's reach, until now. You will hear testimony, from dozens of his victims, and they will tell you, Yakone has maintained his grip on the underworld by using an ability that has been illegal for decades." The prosecution turns to the council, where an older Sokka is sitting. "Bloodbending."Sokka narrows his eyes.

"The prosecution's entire case is built upon the make-believe notion that my client is able to bloodbend at will, at any time on any day. I remind the council that bloodbending is an incredibly rare skill and it can only be performed during a full moon. Yet, the witnesses will claim that my client used bloodbending at every other time except during a full moon. It would be a mockery of justice to convict a man of a crime that is impossible to commit." The defense attorney argues. The vision jumps to when the United Republic Council returns from their deliberations and takes their seats.

"Councilman Sokka will now deliver the verdict." The bailiff states. Sokka stands to address the court.

"In my years, I have encountered people born with rare and unique bending abilities. Why, I once bested a man with my trusty boomerang who was able to firebend with his mind. Why, even metalbending was considered impossible for all of history until our esteemed Chief of Police, Toph Beifong, singlehandedly developed the skill. The overwhelming amount of testimony and evidence has convinced this council that Yakone is one of these unique benders and he exploited his ability to commit these heinous crimes. We find Yakone guilty of all charges and sentence him to life in prison." Sokka pounds his gavel to seal the decision. The defense attorney crumples up a paper, throws it, and slams his fist on the table in annoyance. He looks toward his client as Yakone slowly stands up, grinning. His eyes begin to bugle as Sokka cries out in pain as his body is contorted and after a moment, the other councilmen cry out as well. Toph Beifong is briefly shocked but snaps out of it quickly, trying to stop Yakone by metalbending her cables at him. Yakone rolls his eyes at her, incapacitating her immediately. He laughs as he turns and sees the entire room under his control. Aang struggles as he reaches out his hand to Yakone.

Korra removes herself from the vision with a gasp, her breathing heavy and ragged. She glances at the sleeping form of Kanna, wondering how she would react knowing that her father was a victim of blood bending and that Ritaki is friends with a criminal. She sighs and decides against waking Kanna up. "Oh Kanna," she gently strokes Kanna's hair, "maybe you were right to keep your ability a secret. Not a lot of people would accept you."

Tenzin's group approaches the council members and Chief Saikhan. "Thank you all for meeting us on such short notice." Tenzin greets everyone.

"Chief." Lin coldly says to Shaikhan.

"Lin." He returns the coldness. Tarrlok approaches the group from behind.

"Have you news of Avatar Korra and Protector Kanna?" Tarrlok asks.

"We do." Tenzin points at Tarrlok; angrily. "You kidnapped them, Tarrlok!"

"I am shocked you would accuse me of such an evil act! I already explained: Equalists attacked us and took them!" Tarrlok defends himself, trying to appear as innocent as possible.

"But there were no chi blockers here last night. You planted the evidence, didn't you?" Tenzin growls.

"That is a ridiculous accusation!" Tarrlok angrily shouts. Suddenly, from behind a pillar on the balcony above, the council page appears.

"It's true! He took Korra! I was here when Avatar Korra arrived last night, but Councilman Tarrlok ordered me to leave. I was on my way out when I saw Tarrlok bring her down to the garage. I overheard him telling her that he already took Kanna!" The council page tells everyone.

"That is nonsense!" Page cowers behind the pillar as Tarrlok points at him. "Everyone knows you're nothing but a squeaky-voiced liar!"

" Why did you wait until now to 'fess up?" Lin asks.

"I was terrified to tell because... because Tarrlok is a bloodbender!" Everyone looks at Tarrlok in shock. "He bloodbent Avatar Korra and I'm sure he did the same to protector Kanna!"

"Don't make this worse for yourself." Tenzin says and takes his airbending stance. "Tell us where you have them." Lin also takes her stance and both prepare to attack. Tarrlok's eyes bulge as Tenzin and Lin both bend at him, but he has control of their bodies before they can hit him. Everyone in the room cries out in pain as Tarrlok bloodbends them to their knees. Tarrlok continues to bloodbend until one by one, everyone falls unconscious. Tarrlok backs away and flees the scene. Eventually Lin wakes up.

"Wake up!" Lin slaps Tenzin across the face, waking him fully. Mako helps Asami up as Bolin wakes up and moves around.

"Ughh! Man! I had this awful dream that Korra and Kanna were taken by this evil bloodbender." Mako and Asami look at him. "So weird." Bolin says.

"Bolin, that really happened. He knocked us out." Asami informs him.

"Are you serious? Where is he? Is he here right now?" Bolin quickly looks around.

"Tarrlok is long gone. I'll alert the whole force." Saikhan and the council members leave.

"We've only been out for a little while. Maybe we can still pick up Tarrlok's trail." Lin tells them.

"It could lead us to them! Let's go." Everyone runs off, only thinking about how they have to save their dear friends.

Kanna is now awake and meditating once more with Korra as she dives deeper into Aang's memories.

Aang is being bloodbent by Yakone, who is grinning in relish at his own power. Yakone makes Toph grab a ring of keys from her deputy's belt and float over to him. He forces Toph to unlock his cuffs, which bounce to the ground. He flexes his wrists, and raises his hands to bloodbend everyone into unconsciousness. He turns to see that Aang is still awake and levitates him high into the air.

"Yakone." Aang croaks out as Yakone bloodbends his arms behind his back. "You won't get away with this!"

"Republic City's mine, Avatar. I'll be back one day to claim it." Yakone bloodbends Aang into the steps of the dais, knocking him out, before running outside. He leaps into a cart pulled by an ostrich horse and dashes off. Meanwhile, Aang regains consciousness as his eyes and tattoos glow briefly. He bursts out of City Hall on a large air scooter and quickly catches Yakone, who looks up and gasps. Aang sends a blade of wind to sever the ostrich horse's harness from the cart, which flips onto its side and slides to a halt. Aang coasts in front of the cart and waits for a moment. Yakone bursts out of the side door and bloodbends him to the ground. "This time I'm gonna put you to sleep for good!" Yakone shouts. Aang groans in pain as Yakone levitates him into the air and begins contorting his body to painful and near death positions. Suddenly, his eyes and tattoos glow once again and the bloodbending immediately has no effect on him. He earthbends a cone of rock around Yakone's body, immobilizing him completely, and places his thumbs on Yakone's forehead and chest as he struggles.

"I'm taking away your bending, for good." Yakone groans as Aang's tattoos and eyes lit up as he energybends Yakone to remove his waterbending. When Aang's tattoos stop glowing, he steps back and Yakone slumps down. "It's over."

Kanna opens her eyes when she heats Korea mumbling to herself.

"Aang ... this whole time ... you were trying to warn me about Tarrlok." She rubs her eyes and the two stands up as they hear the door open.

"My life is a disaster now, thanks to you." Tarrlok angrily growls.

"So your little bloodbending secret's out?" Korea mocks and Tarrlok growls at her before leaving. "And I know how you bloodbent me without a full moon." Tarrlok stops walking. "You're Yakone's son." Kanna blinks in surprise, now connecting the dots on that Yakone in Korea's vision and the one Ritaki was talking about are the same blood bender.

"I was his son, but in order to win Republic City, I had to become someone else. My father failed because he tried to rule the city from its rotten underbelly. My plan was perfect. I was to be the city's savior. But you, you ruined everything!" Tarrlok corrects her. He turns to face Kanna. "I hear you met my sister, Ritaki. Does she have a different last name now? To rid herself from our family's stain?" Kanna's eyes widen in horror. "I don't understand how you have the same ability as we do, we thought it was genetic. That only we can blood bend without the full moon. But then I heard about you from Ritaki and I just had to see it for myself. I wonder, does your family know? Does Lin know? I'm sure she would've thrown you in jail aand kept you there if she did know."

"Shut up." Kanna snarls.

"Tarrlok, the jig is up and you have nowhere to go." Korra says.

"Oh no. No, I'll escape and start a new life. And you two are coming as my hostages." Tarrlok grins evilly.

"You'll never get away with this!" Korra pounds on the box and Kanna kicks it. Tarrlok walks to the top of the steps and gasps when he sees Amon, the Lieutenant, and several chi blockers waiting for him.

"Amon!" Tarrlok exclaims in chock. Korra and Kanna gasp, Kanna shrinking as fear overcomes her.

"It is time for you to be equalized." Amon says as The Lieutenant and other Equalists behind him all take fighting stances.

"You fool! You've never faced bending like mine." Tarrlok begins bloodbending the group. The other Equalists all crumple and fall to the ground, but Amon seems unaffected and with minor struggle, begins walking forward. Tarrlok gasps and redoubles his efforts. Amon is halted for a moment, but with a very great effort he moves one foot forward and continues walking normally. Tarrlok begins backing up in horror. "What? What are you?" Tarrlok whispers into horror.

"I am the solution." Amon reaches out and grabs Tarrlok's arm, twisting him around until he is standing behind him. He jabs his right hand at the base of Tarrlok's neck, who groans at that, and moves his left hand toward his forehead as Tarrlok watches in horror. Kanna pushes Korra behind her as they listen to Tarrlok's scream of anguish as his bending is removed. Korra looks up toward the ceiling, silently asking Aang for help. Tarrlok collapses to the ground, weak. The Equalists all groan and stand up as Amon lifts Tarrlok's limp body onto his shoulders.

"I'll take care of him. You four retrieve the Avatar and the Protector. Do not underestimate them. Electrocute the box to knock them out before you open it." Korra's eyes widen as she hears this. Kanna immediately points at Korra's bands around her wrists and hurriedly takes them off.

"My pleasure." Korra gazes at the bars in the top of the box as she hears the Equalists' footsteps descending the stairs. The Lieutenant steps in front of the box and pulling out his electrified kali sticks. "It's payback time." He shocks the box. Korra and Kanna emit fake screams as they hang from the bands that are connected to the bar on the roof. The hanging bulb above the box shatters and the Lieutenant steps back. "Open the box." A chi blocker opens the door to find Korra and Kanna lying motionless on the floor. "Tie them up." Korra firebends a large burst of flame from her foot, forcing the Equalists back as she leaps out of the box. The Equalists fling their bolas at her, but she dodges and Kanna quickly water bends a huge wave at them before forming ice underneath them to make them slip and fall. The two burst out of the house to see Amon putting Tarrlok in the truck. They lock eyes for a moment before Korra and Kanna join forces in bending the snow into spears of ice and hurls them at Amon. He dodges, giving them enough time to run away and jump off a steep slope of the mountain. The Equalists run up to Amon. The Lieutenant and the three other Equalists; calmly scolding.

"I thought I told you not to underestimate them." Amon states. Korra looks behind, as she uses waterbending to snowboard down the mountain. She glances next to her to see Kanna keeping up. Suddenly, she trips over a tree root and flies into the air. Kanna speeds up and gets in front of her as an attempt to catch her, but Korra takes her out and the two land hard against a tree. Snow lands on them and they groan before losing consciousness.

Sometime later, Naga appears and runs up to Korra. She licks Korra's face, waking her up. "Naga. You came looking for me." Naga continues licking her. "Good girl." She weakly pulls herself up onto her back and glances down to see Lee trying to wake up Kanna. "Wake her up, girl." Naga and Lee lick Kanna until she wakes up. Kanna blinks, locking her eyes with Korra. Korra gestures for Kanna to get up. She groans and warily gets up from the ground before climbing onto Naga's back. The two across the polar dog bear's back as Lee climbs onto her head.

"Take us home, girls." Kanna croaks out. Naga and Lee howl as they make their way back to Republic City.

Tenzin, Lin, Mako, Bolin, and Asami flying above the city on Oogi as they hear howls.

"That sounds like Naga and Lee!" Mako yells as Tenzin pulls the bison into a turn. "Down there!" He points at the ground where he can see the animals. Korra moans slightly as the bison lands and the group dismounts. Kanna weakly opens her eyes to see Tenzin and Lin running up to them.

"Kanna! Korra! Oh, thank goodness." Tenzin says in relief.

"Where's Tarrlok? How did you two get away?" Lin questions. Mako and Bolin shove the two out of the way.

"Give them some space!" He pauses, glancing between the two girls before he reaches up and pulls Korra into his arms as he begins walking toward Oogi. Asami looks on with a pained expression. Bolin quickly grabs Kanna, following Mako. "I was so worried. Are you all right?"

"I'm fine. I'm glad you're here." Korra closes her eyes and leans her head against Mako's chest. Mako carries Korra to the bison's saddle and sets her gently down, brushing her hair back from her face.

"You're safe now." Mako softly says. Korra looks at him before falling asleep.

"You're going to be okay." Bolin mumbles to Kanna, frowning at her weak form. Kanna tries to smile yet it comes out more of a grimace.

"Thank you for finding us." She whispers. Bolin gently sets her down onto Oogi and Mako comes over quickly to check on her. Mako grabs her hand, rubbing a thumb over he knuckle.

"What happened?" Tenzin asks, staring at his cousin in worry.

"Amon found us." She mumbles and fear strikes in the group's hearts. "He took away Tarrlok's bending and tried to get us. We escaped and got hurt. Naga and Lee found us." She coughs.

"That's enough." Mako glares at Tenzin before turning to Kanna. "You're safe now, Kanna. Go to sleep. We'll protect you and Korra from now on." Kanna finds herself falling asleep after listening to Mako's words. The group stands there for a moment, all staring at the girls in shock and relief.
