How do you feel about winning this writing competition?

I'll be honest right now. I'm still in shock, but to hear these news definitely surprised me—and in a pleasant way too. I've always loved Harry Potter and to have won a competition revolving around one of my absolute favourite fandoms couldn't have made me happier.

Is this the first competition you've ever won?

Yes. I have competed in other writing contests similar to this one, but I have never claimed victory on those competitions yet. So to have won this one for me made me feel really happy.

What was your favorite part about the competition?

There were actually quite a few things I loved about this competition, actually. The tasks given were very creative and they were really challenging too, so in a way it helped me push my boundaries and deliver my best work every time all while enjoying the adrenaline rush that is writing for the Harry Potter fandom. And I really loved reading all the other entries from the other competitors too—it gave me a sense of their writing style and it helped me appreciate how other writers approach these tasks. But I think my absolute favourite part for me was the fact that with every task I write I get to learn more about my character. Initially when I filled in my form I had no idea where I was going to go, but after a while I found that there was a lot to learn about her and for me that experience was what made the entire competition worthwhile. In the end I actually really got to like Bianca, my character, and I had a ton of fun writing her journey through this competition, which for me definitely feels rewarding.

Would you participate in any future competitions? If so, would you still try to win, or would you do it just for the fun of it?

I guess that would depend on my schedule. As of now I'm in the Battle of the Fandoms competition, and though another victory would be cool I would like to see another person reach for the top. And when they get there, that would be a celebration that even I would never forget, because I like supporting other writers in what they do.

How long ago did you join Wattpad and how did you find the site?

I joined Wattpad in January 2015 after a discussion with my Internet friends on Instagram. A friend of mine asked if any of us had Wattpad and the funny thing was they knew I was already writing a Big Hero 6 fanfiction on Instagram, so for me I guess you can say I was "pressured" into getting a Wattpad account. My first username was clara_hamada because back then I was focused on writing Big Hero 6 fanfiction, especially since the hype for the film was so fresh since the film came out not too long ago and everyone seemed to love it, but as time went by I started expanding my horizons to the point where I changed my name to magic_mockingjay to outline the fact that I love more than just the Disney fandom.

What is your favorite part about Wattpad?

I have to say that my favourite part about Wattpad would be the amount of immense support I get from writers all over the world. Regardless of whether they're only breezing through my works or raving about them, it makes me smile knowing that someone out there would enjoy what I write, and that pushes me to keep writing.

What's your favorite story of yours?

This is a tricky one, actually. I'll probably say "A Helping Hand (Hiro X Reader)" for now because this was the first novel I actually completed, not including one-shots or short stories of the sort. This was the first novel I found some pride in because of the plot that I created and the warm reception I got even after I finished the story. But I'll let slide that I have a lot of favourite works of my own. It's typically hard for me to choose.

What's your favorite story of another author (either on or off of Wattpad)?

Again, a difficult one. Off Wattpad, I'll say "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery (outside of all the fandom books, of course). On Wattpad...I have so many, but for now I'll commend "A Girl's Guide to Hardcore Gaming" by RappytheDinosaur, even if it's still in process.

What's your favorite genre to write in and why?

Fanfiction, no doubt. For me to be able to engage with universes that have been cherished and loved by so many in my own little way actually helps me appreciate my love for the fandoms I write about a lot more, and it helps me also in developing a further understanding of each character the more I study them. I also love writing fantasy and adventure because you get this freedom in this fandom to write almost without boundaries, to illustrate an amazing ride from start to finish—to be able to do that would be quite rewarding.

Do you write simply for the fun of it, or do you hope to make a career out of it someday?

I mostly write for the fun of it, actually. A career would sound nice, but I would probably keep writing as a hobby because I've already got so many other things planned for my future that I really want to carry out once I graduate university.

What are you currently working on?

Currently I'm writing a Zootopia X Reader fanfiction called "The Real Savage", based on the Disney film "Zootopia" which for me has definitely made it on my list of favourite Disney films. I am also working on two Hunger Games X Reader novels ("Last Hope" and "Burning Bright"), and I also have four one-shot books on my profile which I update once in a while with a new story. I also have a lot of other random books on my profile which allows readers to get to know me. They help me develop a positive rapport and a strong bond with them so that they know what kind of person I am, and I get to know them a bit too.

When you aren't writing, what can we find you doing?

Music has been a major part of my life besides writing, so you'd probably either find me on the piano or violin trying out new music or practicing ones I've played before and really enjoyed. I occasionally volunteer to join orchestras once in a while lending my skills in violin and trumpet to help them deliver a successful concert at the end of the season. I also offer private tutoring sessions in music as well, helping other students prepare for their practical or theory exams. Other than that, as of now I'm on my co-op term so you'd probably find me analyzing spatial data and making maps for a company that I work for not too far away from where I live. By next January I'll be back at school working hard to get a degree in Geography. So really, I'm kind of all over the place and I'm actually busy a lot of the time, but eventually it takes some getting used to.

If you could say one thing to your fans, what would it be?

Thank you. Honestly, that's all I feel like I can say. I know I probably do say this quite a lot, but regardless of how you found me and came upon the things I have written I am honestly quite grateful that you all were there to support me in my endeavours for the last year and bit I've been here. It's kind of surreal for me to realize that I actually have fans, but it makes my heart swell to realize that I've inspired most of you to pick up the pen and start writing stories of your own, and it makes me proud too to recognize the milestones you have reached and have yet to reach too. And thank you for keeping me on my feet and pushing me forward in my writing adventures. I sincerely owe it all to you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
