Chapter Eight
*Rough Draft*
Pierre opens the limo door for me, his face unusually placid. He gives me a small wink when I step out.
Shana remains where she is and gives me an encouraging push. I see Ryan standing with his arms crossed in front of the daycare door, which is probably the reason none of the paparazzi got in.
Ryan smiles when he sees me and I rush over to him, lights flashing from every angle. Ryan ushers me inside before resuming stance outside, barking out something about lawsuits and legal property.
Once inside I feel an instant silence fill the daycare. I glance at where all the kids, Audrey, and our other staff are; they were in the middle of a reading when I obviously interrupted.
One of the kids gets up and runs over to me. In an instant, I know who it is and I pick him up kissing every inch of his face.
Blake giggles and covers my mouth with his hands to stop me from kissing him. I press my lips against his soft, warm fingers, making him move them away. He rests his head on my shoulder, sighing.
"Did you miss me, Blake?" I ask, a smile appearing on my face. He doesn't say anything, but I feel him nod his head against my neck.
Someone clears their throat, breaking my attention from Blake.
"It's nice of you to join us, Brea," Audrey says, "but you're late and we've just started our reading. Please, join us."
I quickly put Blake down and sit at the edge of the rug. Blake tries sitting beside me but one of the other workers scolds him, telling him to return to his original seat.
For the rest of the reading, I try to get myself in check. Was my hair okay? Were there crumbs on my face? Probably not, Blake would have pointed it out. But hey, they took an awfully lot of pictures of me at every angle! Who knew which one would end up on the front pages?
It's playtime now and I quickly get up to help set the stations. There's an art station, a toy station, and the free station. I'm set for the free station and the other two staff for the art and toy station.
Every day, the kids get rotated from one station to another so it's fair. But guessing by how Blake's been trying to escape the art station, he's not too happy about that rule now.
I was reading to another kid when the door tinkles open, the sound of the paparazzi's endless talking silencing the daycare. I turn my head and gasp, seeing Will walk in, with Ryan standing behind him. He doesn't look all too happy, giving Audrey a look before taking his place back at keeping the reporters out.
Will goes straight for Blake, who's already running to him. I turn away quickly as I see Will look at me.
"I'm sorry to interrupt," Will says, "but I need Brea." My skin prickles at his words and walks over to me with Blake in hand. I bit my lip, looking up at Will.
"I can't go. My hours aren't over."
Something under his eye twitches.
"I hired you already as Blake's sitter. It's not a part-time job, so let's go." He gently —but firmly— takes my arm and pulls me to my feet while I just gape at his rudeness. But I try to hide the flush in my cheeks as I walk out, feeling all the stares from the kids and my coworkers.
Will's grip slides down to my back as he pushes me forward, out of the daycare. I was sure Ryan would have stopped him if he weren't too busy keeping the photographers in check.
I rush into the limo with Pierre behind me, to spare myself being taken in a photo with Will. There was no way I could be tagged with him. My life would just get a whole lot more complicated.
Blake jumps onto my lap, smiling. I can't help but smile back. But it falters when Will sits next to me. I move over to give him some room –because there definitely is enough space for the two of us to sit without him having to raise my hormone levels to a max– but he only shifts closer.
Pierre drives is away from the flashing lights, and I could only guess our escape is the Right's mansion.
But after all of it, I couldn't help but get mad at Will. He was basically ruining my life at this point and my anger had no place to go, but out.
"What was that for?" I accuse him. He furrows his brow, frowning. "You didn't have to make a scene by coming! I thought you had a meeting or something!"
"My bad for trying to help," he snaps.
"It's your fault for telling the world I'm Blake's babysitter."
"What is that a bad thing now? Are you embarrassed?" he sneered.
"No," I say, gritting my teeth, "but I'm angry because you didn't even think about what could happen if you did. Or even ask me if it was okay! Now I'm going to have those idiots tailing me wherever I go!"
"I don't need your permission for anything," he growled. "I put up with you–"
"Stop fighting!" Blake whines, tugging Will's sleeve. Will almost gives Blake a dark look, but quickly turns away from us both.
"Sorry Blake," I say, feeling utterly ashamed of arguing in front of him. I glance at Will and hesitate. "Sorry Will." He looks over at me, probably thinking if I'm worth an apology.
"I'm sorry too. Let's start over?" he asks. I smile. He actually said sorry. Why was I surprised? He had the best son in the world.
"Sure," I agreed.
Blake giggles then lies down; from stomach up, he was on Will's thighs, and from there down, on mine. I lean down blow kisses into his belly, making him shriek with laughter. He kicks out wildly and almost falls off our laps.
Both Will and I instinctively reach for him, and by doing that, we knocked heads.
"Sorry," I mutter as I rub my bruised temple, not noticing the limo had stopped. The door opens, letting in a waft of non-air-conditioned air into the limo.
Blake jumps out, rushing onto the pathway.
Before he walks out, Will leans over, placing a hand behind my head, and presses his lips where our heads collided. The pain there instantly replaces with a cool, electrifying sensation. I freeze, my fingers curling against my sides.
I hadn't noticed that I closed my eyes until I opened them, seeing Will lean back, with a smirk, before turning to get out. I watch him fix up his suit and follow after Blake.
Trying to breathe calmly, I finger where Will's lips had dulled the pain in my head.
Grinning, I step out of the limo, watching Will's retreating back. And almost immediately, he turns back to look at me before turning away. I catch my breath and walk after him, shaking my head at the floating feeling in my chest.
My life ruined? Yeah right!
