Chapter 5
"Peter, time to get up." Tony softly shook the teen laying on the couch.
"Mmhm." Peter mumbled something and rolled over, covering his eyes from the light.
"Hey, c'mon, you gotta get up." Tony squat next to the couch to get at eye level with Peter.
"Why?" Peter asked, muffled into the arm of the couch.
"I want you to get back in school today." Peter immediately looked up with confused plastered across his face.
"Why?" He asked once more, yawning.
"You've missed almost a month and a half. You gotta get back in school." Sure Peter wanted to see his friends again, but go back to school? That's the one thing he didn't want to do.
"I need my school stuff, it's at Mays apartment." Peter said, looking down, feeling sad at the thought of May.
"Yeah, when you were asleep, I sent a bunch of guys to get her stuff from that apartment. All the furniture is in the storage area. I got your other clothes and of course, your backpack." Peter groaned in annoyance.
Why does he have to do everything? Peter thought.
"Go eat something and I'll drive you around 12:30, if that's alright." Tony stood up as Peter sat up.
"Yeah, that's okay." He mumbled, walking towards the fridge. He thought of ways to get out of school. He could break his leg, or fake being sick.
While eating breakfast, he kept on thinking of more ways. Since he had the super strength, he could easily break a limb. He could spill some chemicals in Tonys lab on himself and get sick. He let out a sigh gave up, Tony would never let him skip school or let him try to get out of it on purpose.
He put his bowl of cereal in the sink with a puddle of water in it, "It's soaking," he'd claim. When he got to his room, he found more clothes in his closet, and two boxes filled with his little toys and possessions. Despite the addition of his new clothes, he threw on a shirt and pants that have always been in that closet.
Heading to the bathroom, more ideas of getting out of school came into his mind. He could make himself throw up, or maybe break something glass on his hand. Maybe swallow something that isn't edible. All these ideas filled his head as he brushed his teeth and combed his hair.
Once back downstairs, he looked more awake, yet his mood was still the same, a mix of annoyed and tired. On the other side, Tony had a grin filling his face.
"You ready?" He asked.
"I guess so." Peter mumbled, shoving his now charged phone into his pocket. Ever since May, he hasn't touched his phone once and it's never been charged. After he had plugged it in and it turned back on, his notifications bar was going crazy with texts, calls and reminders. He replied to only Neds and MJ's texts, and left the rest on read or ignored them.
"What car?" Tony asked, showing Peter the garage full off many expensive vehicles.
"I don't care, can we just leave." Peter rolled his eyes. All he wanted to do was not leave the building and not see really anyone at his school besides Ned and MJ.
"What's wrong?" Tony slumped his shoulders and crossed his arms, giving a worried, but annoyed look.
"I don't want to go to school! I don't like anyone there and everything that will happen within the next few hours will be terrible. I don't want to leave home, I just want to be alone right now." His voice was very quiet and sad compared to how raised and mad it was before.
"Hey, kid, I know. Trust me, I would do anything to keep a smile on that face of yours, but you gotta get to school. I just need you to do this just this one day, then after you got all your homework, you can take a little break." Sympathetic and understanding Tony was one of Peters favorite versions of Tony. The other were mad scientist and happy.
"We can take the Mercedes." Peter mumbled after a few minutes. They walked over to the car and pulled out into the road. Peter kept his head resting against the window the entire time, staying quiet. Tony tried getting him to talk a few times, but there was not luck.
•
"Peter," Peters eyes slowly rose, "Pete, we're here." He looked over and saw that they were now in the parking lot of his school.
"Little tired, aren'tcha?" Tony softly laughed and they both exited the car.
"Who's picking me up?" Peter asked while looking at his school. He hasn't seen it in so long, he hasn't really seen most of the city in a while too.
"Who do you want? Me or Happy?" Tony looked over.
"You can, if that's fine." He looked down at his untied shod, but kept walking.
"Alright, I'll be here at 3:30 then?" Peter just nodded and Tony wrapped his arm around his shoulder as they entered the building.
"Oh my!" One of the workers at the front desk exclaimed.
"Is that Stark?" Another whispered.
"Hey, yes, it's me. I called the principal about a meeting today, is he available at the moment?" Tony asked, ignoring all the comments about his presence.
"Oh yes! You can head into that office over there, he's waiting." A blonde pointed to a office, smiling.
"Thank you." Tony lead Peter to the office with his arm still around him. When they opened the door, principal Morita stood up and shook hands with Tony.
"Well Peter, it's great seeing back here." Morita greeted as they all sat down. Peter just replied with a mumble, looking at his shoes. They had a few holes in them and were pretty faded, but he refused Tony to replace them. His aunt gave them to him for Christmas last year and he never wanted to replace them with anything, except the vans that May has also bought recently.
Tony and Morita continued talking while Peter stayed quiet. Tony was handed a small box, containing all of Peters missing homework. He was told that it's alright if it wasn't all finished, but Peter was gonna procrastinate and not do it in the first place. Once their little meeting was finished, they shook hands once more and exited the room.
"Alright, it was nice meeting you Tony." Tony nodded and smiled at Morita, who was basically fangirling over Tony, (i mean same).
"Text me if you need anything, and go to guidance if you're feeling upset or need me, okay?" Tony put a firm hand on Peter shoulder, looking down at him.
"Okay, see you later." Peter hugged Tony and watched him leave. He then swung his bag over his shoulder and headed to his locker. The hallways were dead silent, almost like there was no sign of life.
When he got to his locker, it took him a minute to remember what his combination was. After several fails, he opened up the rusty, metal box and shoved his backpack in it. He pulled out a red binder, blue folder and a pencil case with a bunch of sharpie marks his friends put on.
"Alright lets do this Peter." His whispered to himself and slammed the locker shut. Walking down the empty hallway, he made eye contact with a few unknown people through the window on the door.
Once he finally got to his geometry class, he slowly and hesitantly knocked on the locked door. The teacher, Mrs. Louis came to the door with a bright smile.
"Ah, Peter! It's great to see you!" She cheered as she let Peter inside the classroom. Everyone turned around and stared, making Peter go red.
"Where am I sitting?" Peter asked, noticing the changed seating.
"You aaarre," Mrs. Louis ran back to her desk and grabbed a clipboard, "you are, right next to Ned." A small grin appeared on Peters face as he sat in the desk places next to the one his best friend was in.
"Okay everyone! Let's get back to class! Peter, try to follow along as much as you can. We are using the textbook underneath your desk, on pages 125 and 126." Mrs. Louis tapped something on the smart board and began to ramble on.
"Dude! Oh my god! You saved my life." Ned whisper yelled to Peter.
"What?" Peter whispered back.
"I was bored and lonely, man I missed you so much." Peter nodded and smiled at the comment.
The class went on, with Peter paying no attention at all. He didn't understand most of it, so he just put himself in his daydreams. Thought about a lot of things. Made up fake arguments or creating scenarios where he gets the perfect life. The teacher snapped him back into reality a few times, but Peter eventually was back in his mind.
The bell rang and everyone rushed out of the classroom. Peter took his time gathering all the papers he received and Ned waited for him.
"What do I have next hour?" He asked while entering the screaming hallways.
"Uh, gym." Ned answered.
"Ah, fuck. I'm going to fail gym. I haven't done running or anything like that in like two months." They both laughed.
"Hey well, you can walk the warm up jog with me." Peter snickered. They eventually had to split up to get to their lockers, but promised to meet up at the boys bathroom.
Peter squeezed himself through all the obnoxious people and managed to get himself to his locker. Ignoring the fact that he should stay organized, he threw the binder into the bottom of this locker. He grabbed a draw string bag containing his gym uniform from his backpack and then rushed off to the meeting place he had with Ned.
"What took you so long?" Ned complained like a moody 7th grader.
"Uh, I dunno. The freshman are really annoying, I have to get through them." They left the spot and made their way too the locker room.
"You were a freshman too. People probably thought the same about you." Ned softly laughed.
"Okay but, I wasn't screaming in the hallways and trying to trip teachers, was I?" Ned rolled his eyes and pushed open the door to the locker room.
"Shit, where's my locker?" Peter said under his breath, examining the area.
"Dude, your locker is right next to mine, B65?" Peter followed Ned to the section where B lockers where kept. He fiddled around with his lock until he could get it open. He quickly changed, and then waited for Ned. They jogged out of the room and into the big gym. It was filled with a lot of students he didn't know, but there was one person that stood out. Flash Thompson.
"Penis Parker!!" Flash shouted from across the gym. He then ran over to Peter and Ned, probably with a bunch of insults and comments about them.
"Flash, what do you want?" Peter let out a short sigh and looked up at Flash, who was a few inches taller than him.
"I've noticed you've been gone for a while." Flash snickered as Peter looked down, avoiding eye contact.
"Hey Flash, just leave him alone." Ned stepped up, only to step back down at an insult from Flash.
"Really? Why should I listen to you, fatso?" Ned looked down at his stomach and felt insecure immediately.
"I've heard Auntie June died." Peter shot his head up at Flash.
"It's Aunt May." He wanted to hurt Flash, do something that would make him understand not to mess around with him. But he couldn't, he'd be too distracted and punch too hard with his spidey strength.
"Ha, well, I don't care. Are you homeless now? Or are you some orphan?"
"He's living with Tony Stark!" Ned said, a bit too loud. Almost everyone looked over to see what was going on. Peters face went bright red, looking around at all of his confused peers staring at him.
"Ned, what the fuck?" He whisper yelled under his breath.
"Ah, so you're staying with the ol' Tony Stank! Well guess what? Me and Black Widow hooked up last night!" Flash chucked, rolling his eyes.
"Hey, okay I mean it Flash, leave Peter alone! He just lost his last living relative and I bet you would act the same way he his right now!" Ned stepped up, leaving Peter standing there like a small child lost in a store. Feeling so vulnerable and numb, Peter wanted to curl himself up into the smallest ball possible. He wanted to escape this world, this terrible world.
"Ned, please just stop." Peter begged, quietly, on the verge of crying.
"Wh- Peter, I'm helping you here! Flash bullies you and you're telling me that you basically want him to continue it?" All of what Ned told him made no sense to Peter.
"I just- please stop." He crossed his arms, making himself look smaller.
"Oh, is Penis Parker gonna cryyy?" Flash snickered as a few other classmates laughed along him.
"Flash! Why do you do this?" Ned shouted, leaving Flash unfazed.
"It's funny! And now that Parker has a dead auntie, I got more jokes to tell him!" That comment made a few tears stream down Peters cheeks.
"Ned, I'm- I gotta go! I- I'll text you?" Peter immediately bolted off into the locker room. He found his locker and pulled his pants out, finding the pocket his phone was kept. He turned it on and pressed the messages app right away. He scrolled through all the contacts until he found the one he needed, Tony Stark.
Pick me up sent 1:58pm
Why? What happened? received 1:59pm
Idk. Just pick me up. sent 2:00pm
Alright, leaving now. received 2:02pm
The three words that Peter read gave him relief. He wiped his tears and quietly put his clothes back on. He slammed the locker door shut and carefully left the locker room, making sure Flash wasn't around the corner. He made his way down the hallway, heading for his locker. It was once again, very quiet.
As he approached his locker, he quickly turned the lock onto the right numbers, until it made a click. He opened up the metal door and grabbed his backpack. Looking over his locker, he then closed the door quietly and headed to the office.
When he opened the door to the office, he found Tony sitting in one of the chairs, reading a magazine. When Peter closed the door, Tony immediately looked up and gave a small grin.
"C'mon, let's go." He stood up and followed Tony outside and into his car. The principal and people in the office did nothing to stop them, so he assumed Tony bribed them with money or made something up like he had a dentist appointment.
Once they both were in then car, Tony looked over at Peter, who was just looking down.
"What happened?" He asked.
"Nothing, can we just go home." Peter looked away, hoping Tony wouldn't see how weak and scared he looked. He was scared of so many things. What would happen next? Will he ever see May again? When will he die? All those thoughts bounced around the inside of his skull.
"Can we talk about it at home?" Tony asked hopefully while starting the engine. Peter wanted to reply with something with an attitude. He wanted to go off at Tony about how he should just know what he exactly wants. He couldn't though. He didn't have the courage to yell at Tony for something that wasn't his fault. He just signed and shrugged, slumping in his seat.
Peters eyes stayed focused on the road. Looking at buildings and people and cars. Tony glanced over at him most of the car ride, making sure he was fine. Tony wanted to talk to Peter, but he didn't know what to say. He didn't know how Peter would respond. So he just stayed quiet the entire ride. The only sound there was within that ten minute ride was sounds of outside and their breathing.
