Chapter 1

*Zeele's point of view*

"See you tomorrow Jess" I called as I walked down the road.

"Travel safely," Jess said glowing in the dark.

"Sure thing, I'll glow safely." I smiled giggling.

Jess laughed. That was our little joke. Not many others knew what that meant.

I looked up at the dark sky as I folded my wings up more trying to hide them.

I wanted to fly but I couldn't. Mum and Dad had forbidden me to fly in towns and cities. I could only fly in the countryside which i didn't get to go to very much because they had huge jobs and they spent most of their time at work. At least that's what they said. Sometimes it felt like they tried to avoid me.

The telegraph poles and wires crossed the almost empty street and I remembered at Christmas time how amazing it looked with the snow and the Christmas lights. It looked like an Christmas wonderland at night.

I saw some of my other mutant friends walking to their houses and I walked a bit quicker to catch up with them, safety in numbers and all that.

Whispering to each other we kept an wary eye out for other,'humans'

We'd nearly got our street when we saw a cop walking behind us and aiming his gun at us.

"Run!" I screamed and shots were fired, one found my shoulder and I screamed in pain, but ran, ran for my life towards my house, not that my parents would refuse an cop's demand to come in our house, or their house, they hated me. No questions needed to know why.

Climbing through my window, as the front door was locked and my parents didn't know I was out I ran to my on-Suit, I only had one as my parents didn't want to share the same bathroom as me, I got out my first aid kit and wrapped my shoulder up.

My mother walked in and she saw my wings, she hated me, especially them and her face grew red.

"Zeela!" she snapped roaring to life.

"Mrs Cinna!" I said, I wasn't even allowed to call her my mother.

"Going out all hours of the night, oh yes, I've been watching you so don't you try to deny it! well, I'm fed up, your a stupid fucking mutant and though I've been kind and tried to help you, you throw it back in my face, well I don't think so! Tomorrow, I want you gone, forever!" With that she slammed the door in my face as she stormed out.

I stared at the door for a while before breaking down crying, quietly of course.

Going back into my room I grabbed my back pack and began filling it up, my blanket in the bottom, my all time favourite book Avatar, the one with the planet in space, and put some warm clothes in.

Placing it by the bed I fell asleep crying and in pain.

··················

The next day I woke up and noticed red and blue lights on my window coming into the room.

Peaking carefully through the curtain I saw my mother talking to the police. There was a large van that no doubt it was as ment for me.

Scared I ran out the room with my back pack and bumped into dad.
"Go out my bedroom window, they're not there." Dad whispered.

Dad, unlike mum, didn't care that I was a mutant or not. I was his daughter and that was what mattered to him.

"Thanks dad" I smiled and gave him a hug.

"Your always welcome to come here with me." He told me.

I smiled with watery eyes. "I love you dad."

Dad was about to answer when we heard banging from downstairs.

"This is the Police we're going in!" We then heard bigger banging as they tried to get in.

"Go, quickly!" Dad whispered and helped me open the window.

I ripped two holes in my shirt to allow my wings to emerge and opened them.

"They're big." Dad commented and I smiled.

"Go now!" Dad ordered as the door downstairs was smashed open.

I climbed onto the window ledge and jumped, those few seconds of free fall are the worst for me, but unfurling my wings fast, I was caught by the wind and was lifted a little and hovered before I began to fall.

Flapping my wings I began to rise high and got further away from the place I knew well.

On the street I saw my mutant friends overlooking what was happening and when they saw me they waved and then quickly looked back to where the police was brining out my father.

Crying I circled around for a minute when I saw my mother, the bitch pointing up towards me and the police began firing at me.

Moving my wings I banked sharply away from them and rose higher above the cloud line where they couldn't get me.

I wasn't looking forward to meeting another bullet with my name n it.

As I flew away I was glad that I had taken the time off school, not that my parents knew, I skipped school, and learnt to fly when I realized that my adult wings had replaced the young baby wings at the age of 12.

Though I was 26 and should of really not of stayed in my parent's house, I couldn't afford the rent, and cuz my mother hated my guts, they wouldn't help me.

At every job interview, I was to tell that I was a mutant to the employer and so few mutants get a job and those who do only get paid a pound a day.

Because of an internal compass inside me (like birds) I knew what direction I was going, which was north, but I had no clue where I was going to.
