Delinquents
"Jack Black Johnson. He is Marie's older brother." Bill answers with complete seriousness, but has an innocent look in his eyes.
Shit, I failed to kill two people from the Johnson family! I can kill Jack, but someone asking for his death may be hard to locate. Besides, I can't kill freely anyway.
"What's wrong, Sherry? You look scary." Jane worries. She suddenly touched my shoulder. As an instinct, I was about to throw her, but my arm was instantly grabbed by Simon, who didn't want me to throw Jane.
"Yeah, what's wrong with you? You look like you're ready to torture someone off to death!" He says as his grip gradually loosens.
I stare intently at Simon, who, ever since he glanced at that window with pure fear in his eyes, never lowered his hood.
"I-Is there something on my face?" He flinched, getting uncomfortable with my stare.
"Do you know him?" I ask with dead and dull eyes, like we're in an interrogation.
"Who, Jack Black? No, never met him before." He answers with great haste, his voice staggers. Although I don't know the reason why he's lying, I pretended that I didn't notice his lie.
"Is that so? Wow, good thing! I thought you knew him. Man, he's a scary fellow." I sighed in fake relief, slowly but casually sliding my arm away from his grip.
"Speaking of Marie, I don't see her anywhere. Did she catch my cold?" Jane again worries, looking around her surroundings to see who else is missing.
"I heard she got beaten up quite badly, even broke her right arm. She's in the hospital right now, though, so I hope she'll be fine." Bill quietly wishes, his voice gradually becoming softer, his head slowly tilts down.
"Well, she's smart enough to go to a hospital. How about you?" Simon sharply turns to me. "You got beaten up quite badly, having some bruises here and there, as well as small cuts. Did you two have a fight?"
"Huh?" How did he know? How did he see through me? "No way, no way, hahaha." I dismissed, laughing with a carefree manner. "Besides, isn't it more logical if her brother is the one behind this?"
"No, Jack loves his sister very much. They protect each other every time." Simon responds. It gave me a surprise, I thought for sure Bill would answer. He gave away pretty easily, doesn't he?
"Really? How would you know that?"
"Ah-- no, no, Marie says these kinds of things frequently, no?" He turns to both Bill and Jane to back his excuse up.
Bill and Jane both nod. Not because they were covering up for Simon, but because Simon was telling the truth. I can tell the difference. After all, these two are quite knowledgeable of what's happening in their surroundings.
"But you should be careful, Sherry!" Bill warns me, there was a hint of deep concern in his eyes. "Jack is aloof and strong. He will not hesitate to hit anyone, if they dare try to cross on their property or harm Marie in any way!"
Shivers went down my spine as he mentioned Marie getting harmed. Although I know she wouldn't know who I was that time, but the guilt I bear knowing this fact haunts me for some reason.
"Especially since your wounds aren't considered to be healed yet too." Simon again comments about my wounds. Does it bother him that much? "You know, I suggest you go to the hospital first and then come back to confront Jack."
"I didn't say anything about confronting him anyway! I was just curious, that's all!" I turned away, a little embarrassed how he sees through me. Even Jane can't even tell!
"How did you know she was injured?" Bill asks my question that I cannot spit out!
"There were minor hints, like how she holds her bag, moves her chair, elbow me on the head, her movements are light, gentle and careful, like she doesn't want her wounds to open unnecessarily. The major hint was when she didn't immediately move her arm away when I grabbed her, she waited until my grip was loose enough and slides it away. Her wounds aren't exclusive on her arms, though! The way she walks and how she's slightly hunched forward says it all." A moment later, he was about to poke me on my stomach, so I instantly guarded it with my arms crossed, but his real objective was to lightly kick me in my shin, which made me kneel down in pain. Although I didn't let out a sound, the fact that I lost my footing proves it all. "See, she used all her strength to guard her stomach, and when I kicked her, she quickly fell down."
"How did you know all this?" Bill looks at my defenseless self with awe in his eyes. I feel like he's looking at me like a painting displayed in an art museum.
"I have always known. You guys just don't get injured so you didn't have a chance to witness this sort of thing." Simon casually answers, not too arrogant, not too modest.
"You're really not going to those delinquents, right?" Jane outstretches her hand for me to hold on, with a worried face and voice.
I smirked, taking her hand and pulling myself up.
"I'm not promising anything."
