Chapter Thirty
"Yes, there has been a huge accident. Please hurry." Analyze says into her phone feeling hot tears run down her face.
"Are you alright?" Jack asks getting out of there tipped car. Analyze saw the accident coming and tried to slow down, but the semi swung out and hit the front of the truck causing it to flip over once.
"I'm fine." She says waving him away staring at the semi. "It's on to of them." She cries into her phone as the help person tries to calm her down. "The semi is on top of them." She shouts and crumbles to the ground. Jack catches her and grabs the phone.
"We need help, now. It's a semi on top of a van, and another truck in a ditch." Jack says and then lets the phone fall to the ground. "Shh, help is coming. We can't do anything." He says holding her close to him.
"I...I should have stopped it." She says crying into him.
"You couldn't have. This isn't our fault. That truck shouldn't have been speeding up the ramp and the semi should have stayed in his lane." He says staring at the collision. He looks to the ditch and hears yells. "Analyze, stay here." He says letting her go. He runs down into the ditch and sees a ton of teenagers in the truck.
"Help, please." A man says half through his windshield and half in the car. He looks around the truck and sees three on the ground.
"Help is on the way, just don't move." He says and walks around the car to the other side. The passenger still has his seatbelt on. Jack checks his pulse and feels the beat. He then begins checking the people on the ground.
"I didn't mean to. They all wanted to go faster....and we...we're all drunk. Maddy said to slow down, but...but I didn't. Is...is Maddy ok?" He asks. Jack looks over at him.
"Which one is Maddy?" He asks.
"Blue top, next to Mason, redshirt." He cries with tears running down his face. Jack walks over to the two. He finds a pulse on Mason, but it's really slow. He checks Maddy's but doesn't find one. He looks up and the guys shakes his head not sure what he should do. She has blood all over her, and most of it's coming from her head.
"No, no, I didn't mean it." He says and then blood begins to run down the windshield.
"Man, you need to stop moving. Ok?" He says wanting to vomit as the smell of blood reaches his nose.
"Were..were you in the crash?" The guy asks.
"The semi lightly hit the front of our car, but other than that no, but that van under the semi. Six of my friends are in that car." He says and the guy stares up at him.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been driving. They're all dead because of me." He says and begins to start crying.
"Hey, don't you say they're all dead. You don't know that, and people can be helped. Don't break down now." He says and then sees Analyze by the van and semi.
"Analyze, stay away from the crash." He says running towards her.
"Julia, Julia." She calls seeing her friend through the crushed window. Jack wraps his arms around her and pulls her away. "No, no." She screams trying to push against him.
"This could all go up in flames, we can't be by it." He says holding her close to him. He then hears the sirens. "We need to get out of the way so they can help Julia and everyone else." He says. She stops fighting him and lets him pull her to the grass.
They watch as the fire trucks, ambulances, and cop cars come speeding up to the scene. They watch as everyone runs to either the crash or the car in the ditch. A paramedic comes up to them. "No, no help our friends," Jack says pointing to the crash.
"You both are bleeding, I can't help your friends until the firefighters get them out. Just let me get you two done and then I will see if I can do anything." The man says trying to calm them down. Jack nods his head and brings Analyze to the ambulance. "Can you state your name for me?" He asks looking at Analyze.
"Babe, tell him your name," Jack says directing her attention to him. She doesn't say anything and Jack feels his stomach sink. "She was just talking before you guys came." He says and looks to the paramedic.
"She's in shock, she'll be fine." He says bandaging her arm up and then working on a small cut on her head. When the paramedic lets them go, two cops come over and talk to them. Analyze doesn't talk the whole time, she just stares at the firefighters try to get there friends out.
"All right thank you, sir." She hears the cop say.
"Analyze, come on." Jack says trying to pull her away from the crash.
"No, I am staying until each one of them is out from under the semi." She says holding her ground. Jack looks over at her ready to protest, but keeps his mouth just and nods his head.
Analyze walks a little closer as they pull Julia out of the crash. They're yelling things out and then she's in the ambulance. "One." Analyze says putting up a finger. The next person they pull out is Leland and he doesn't look good at all. She watches as they start to give him CPR. "Come on Leland." She says watching. They stop and at first, she thought he died, but they put a breathing mask over his mouth. "Two." She says and looks to see Layla on a stretcher. She talking and trying to push them.
"Were is Leland?" She asks over and over again. Analyze runs up to her grabbing her hand.
"He's on his way to the hospital, he's fine." She says and Layla nods her head slightly.
"What about Taylor? Where's Taylor?" She asks and Analyze looks back to the crash.
"They haven't pulled her out yet, just you, Leland, and Julia so far, but they'll get her and everyone else," Analyze says and she sees tears in her eyes.
"It's my fault, I shouldn't have tried to go past the semi. I should have just stayed behind and waited it out." She rushes out of her mouth. Analyze shakes her head and feels tears in her eyes.
"It wasn't your fault, don't you think that. It's going to be alright." She says and then the paramedics begin to take her away. "Everything's going to be alright." She yells as they take her away. "Three." She says to herself and walks back over by Jack.
"I've called everyone's parents, yours were the only ones awake, they said they're coming." He says and she nods her head. Carson is the next out but is unconscious. They rush him into another ambulance and she watches as they continue to give him CPR.
"That's four. Come on Taylor and Austin." She says looking as they have to go get more tools.
"They aren't responsive." She hears and feels her stomach drop. "The woman is stuck under some metal, we should get the man out first." She hears and watches them work. Before they can get either of them out, they hear a crunch and the semi falls further down on the van. Then there is so much yelling she can't understand what any of them are saying.
They begin to work frantically and she watches as the pull Austin out. His eyes are open and looking around. "Taylor." He yells pushing against the firefighters.
"Sir, we need you to calm down. We are trying to help." A firefighter says.
"No, where's Taylor?" He asks. Jack and Analyze run up to him. "Where is she?" He asks looking at them still on a stretcher.
"She's still in the car," Jack says and he shakes his head.
"No, go get her. Leave me alone, go get her." He says shoving the people way.
"Sir, we need to get you to an ambulance." One says, he gives a look to the rest and they all go back to the car. "Everyone else is working on getting her out, but we need to help you or you won't be able to see her again." He says. Austin looks up at the man with tears in his eyes.
"She has to live." He says, the paramedic nods his head and continues to push him towards an ambulance. Jack and Analyze watch as his eyes begin to close.
"What happened? Why isn't he awake anymore?" Jack asks concerned.
"I don't know why he woke up in the first place, he shouldn't have been able to. And he sure as hell shouldn't have been able to push us with the force he did." He says and then more surround him.
"We need to wait for Taylor." Analyze says as Jack goes to hop into the ambulance. Jack looks at her and nods his head feeling torn. He wants to go and be there for his friends, but he also wants to wait for Taylor, and he can't leave Analyze there alone.
"Ok, we'll wait." He says and walks over to her. The two walk over to the crash and watch them work. The front of the car is now on fire along with parts of the semi.
"Come on Taylor." Analyze says with her hands in fists hoping. They watch as more and more come to help get her out. Jack's phone rings and he answers it right away. Analyze ignores him and continues to wait for Taylor to get out of the car.
It takes them ten more minutes before she comes out of the car. Analyze lets out a breath and runs up to her. A person is kneeling over her giving her CPR. There are too many people around her for her to see her. "How is she?" She asks a person that stop running with the rest.
"She's pretty banged up, but should pull through. They will be leaving, so if you want to be with her you should go now." The man says before running off somewhere. Analyze grabs Jack before running to the ambulance.
"We only have room for one of you." A paramedic says.
"Go, I'll get a ride with an officer," Jack says. Analyze nods her head and takes a seat in the ambulance. She watches as they hook her up to different machines.
"Taylor, you need to pull through ok? You aren't allowed to leave me." She says. The two paramedics glance over at her, but she doesn't look at them. She keeps her eyes fixed on her friend.
When they make it to the hospital she is forced to stay in the waiting room. Jack comes in not long after and wraps his arms around her. "They will be fine."
They don't get news for hours upon hours, and when they do they just say that everyone's still in surgery or that they can't see them yet. Many hours later parents start to arrive. "What's going on?" They hear. They turn their heads to see Analyze's parents. She stands up and hugs her parents.
"It...it was a crash." She says holding onto her parents.
"Shhh, it'll be ok." Her Mom says rubbing her back. Jack watches as Julia's parents come running in along with his.
When everyone's parents are there, a doctor comes out. "Who is here for Julia?" He asks, everyone stands up and he looks at them confused. "Who are her parents?" They step forward and he begins talking to them.
They all listen waiting to hear the news and when her parents turn back with smiles they all feel relieved. "They say she's going to make a full recovery. We're going to go in and sit with her." Julia's Dad says. The group nods their heads and watches as they leave.
"Layla parents?" The next doctor asks. Again, there's good news and they go in to sit with her. Then it's Carson's parents. They begin to cry worrying everyone. "If he fights, he will be fine, but it's all up to him." The doctor says to everyone else. His parents go to his room leaving Taylor's and Leland's parents and Austins.
It's another hour before a doctor asks for Austin's parents. "Is he ok?" They both stand up quickly walking over to him.
"He's a fighter, he woke up from being unconscious and amazed us. He was really pushing, I don't know what for, but whoever or whatever you have them to thank for him being here." The doctor says and Jack looks at Analyze with a knowing look.
"Can we see him yet?" They ask together.
"In an hour maybe, but we don't want him to get over stressed with anyone in there." He says. The two nod and sit back down next to Taylor and Leland's parents.
"Who was he talking about? I saw your guys look." Austin's Mother asks looking at Jack and Analyze.
"Taylor, he woke up asking for her and wanted to make sure she was alright," Jack says. She nods her head and smiles at her parents.
"Just good friends my ass." Taylor's Mom says with a small smile. Her smile then falls and she begins to start crying. "I made her go on this trip. I kept pushing her to go, and now she been in the hospital twice because of it." She says crying into her husband's shoulder.
"Hey, shh, this isn't your fault. You couldn't have known this would happen." He says trying to calm her down.
"No, I shouldn't have let her continue after....after."
"Hey, look at me." He says tilting her head up.
"This isn't your fault and you aren't going to blame yourself, you hear me?" He says. She nods her head and he smiles wiping her tears away. Everyone has already looked away from the couple feeling like they were intruding, but they all glance at them when a doctor comes out.
"Leland and Taylor's parents?" He asks and looks towards the two that stand up. "Your son went through a lot, it's going to be up to him, but we believe he'll make it through." He says and Taylor's Mom falls to the floor. Her husband catches her and holds her to his chest.
"What..what about Taylor?" He asks looking up to the doctor.
"She has many broken bones and we tried our best, but we don't know if or when she wakes up if she's remember anything or if she will be able to move." He says and the two start crying even more.
"She might be paralyzed?" Analyze asks in a whisper. The doctor looks up at her and gives her a sad nod.
"They need to be a room together. They...they'll fight better." The doctor looks down at the woman. She stands up and wipes her eyes. "Please, they are really close." She says. The doctor nods his head and she nods her feeling a little better.
"We can't have you two see them yet, but we will get you as soon as you can." He says before walking off.
