Chapter 43

There was a knock on my door as soon as I walked out of my bathroom and into the bedroom with a towel in my hands, drying my hair.

"Who is it?" I asked while I continued to dry my hair and raised an eyebrow in question, not answering my door.

"It's me, Dear," my grandmother said from the other side of the door. "Can I come in?"

I bit back an annoyed sigh before I slowly nodded, pursing my lips in annoyance. "Yes, Ma'am," I said. "You can come in."

My grandmother chuckled and opened the door. She smiled and dipped her head in greeting before she looked at me. "How are you, my Dear?" she asked while she raised an eyebrow in question.

I shrugged and grimaced while I walked over to my sitting area and sat down before I gestured for her to come into my room and to go over there as well so that she could sit down too. "I've been better," I admitted before she hummed and nodded while she walked into the room.

She closed the door before she made her way to my little seating area and sat down, facing me. "Are you just tired?" she asked while she cocked her head and studied me. Worry filled her eyes while she looked at me, and I pursed my lips before I slowly nodded.

"Yes, Ma'am," I said and bit back a small sigh while I moved a hand across my face before I shook my head and grimaced. "I am just tired."

"Hmph." She slowly blinked while she nodded. She didn't say another word while she cocked her head and studied me, and I couldn't help but shift in my seat, feeling slightly nervous.

"Clarissa is here," I said, changing the subject because I didn't want to continue her staring contest with me. I placed the towel on my table before I sighed and leaned back in my seat.

My grandmother nodded. "I am well aware," she said before she cleared her throat and leaned back in her seat. "There is someone else new here, too." She gave me a pointed look while she raised an eyebrow in question, waiting for me to answer her silent question.

I held back an eye roll and scowled because I had a feeling that she was talking about Drew but decided not to answer her question. "Callie is new," I said with a soft sigh. "She is Clarissa's friend."

My grandmother clicked her tongue to the top of her mouth and pursed her lips in annoyance. "That is not who I am talking about, Dear," she said with a shake of her head. "I am talking about someone else who has decided to reside here." She gave me a pointed look, and I set my jaw and narrowed my eyes.

I didn't say a word while I looked at her, and my grandmother chuckled while she leaned back in her seat, looking very amused.

"I am talking about a certain young and handsome Mr. Andrew Barren," she said and gave me a pointed look with a small smirk on her face. "Do you have anything to do with that?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, her eyes flashing with amusement.

I bit back a small snort while I rolled my eyes and scowled. I didn't say a word while I leaned back in my seat and watched her.

My grandmother chuckled and shifted in her seat. "Come on, Dear," she said and raised an eyebrow in question, biting back a small smile. "What happened? Why is he staying here?"

I sighed and shook my head while I rubbed the bridge of my nose and pursed my lips some more. "It's nothing," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "Important. It's nothing important."

"Mmmhmm." She gave me a pointed look and raised an eyebrow in question. "Do you know that I don't believe you?"

I bit back a small groan before I slowly nodded, closing my eyes a little before I looked at her again. "Yes," I said before I sighed and shook my head. "I know that you don't believe me."

"Good, now why is he here?" She cocked her head and studied me. "Is he staying over for the time being?"

I bit back another sigh and slowly nodded. "Yes, Ma'am," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "Mom knows that he is here."

"And?" she asked and raised her eyebrow in question higher. "What does she think?"

I shrugged and grimaced. "I think that she is fine with it," I replied coldly. "She doesn't seem to care that he is here. I think she is happy with it."

"Why?" she asked while she raised an eyebrow in question. She chuckled and leaned back in her seat. "Why is she happy?"

"Because she thinks that she can put Cu- Drew with Clarissa and make them a power couple." I rolled my eyes and scowled, and she chuckled softly while she nodded.

"Do you think that will happen?" she asked while she raised an eyebrow in question.

I bit back a small scoff while I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "No," I said. "I don't think that will happen."

"And why not?" she asked while she folded her arms across her chest and leaned forward. She cocked her head and studied me, and I slowly blinked while I looked at her, making sure that I kept my face blank. "Do you think that he has eyes for someone else?" she asked.

"I think he has eyes for everyone, Grams," I said and gave her a pointed look, and my grandmother chuckled while she slowly nodded.

"What about your sister?" she asked with a small smirk on her face while she cocked her head and studied me further. "Do you think that she has eyes for someone?"

I shrugged and grimaced, my thoughts going to how close Clarissa and Callie were close together. "Possibly," I said. "I don't think she is going to have eyes for him."

"Hmph." She slowly nodded. "And what about you?" she asked. She bit back a small smile while she dipped her head closer to her chest, studying me.

"Me?" I asked and raised an eyebrow again. "What do you mean about me?"

"Do you have eyes for anyone yet?" she asked while she cocked her head and studied me further, biting back a small smirk.

I bit back a small smile and shook my head, even though an image of Drew appeared in my mind. "No," I said with a small sigh and shook my head again. "I'm not seeing anyone."

My grandmother slowly blinked, and I could tell that she didn't believe me. She folded her arms across her chest while she set her jaw and narrowed her eyes again. "Are you sure?" she asked.

I nodded in confirmation. "I am," I confirmed.

There was a knock on my door, and Drew opened the door before I could tell him to enter.

He looked between us, and I could tell that he was shocked to see my grandmother sitting at the table with me. "Oh," he said, surprised before he cleared his throat and looked at me. "I wasn't expecting anyone."

I rolled my eyes and scowled, my heart skipping a beat. "Shut up, Cupcake," I said, making sure that my face didn't turn red. I narrowed my eyes and scowled tighter. "What do you want?"

Drew cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "I was just coming to let you know that everyone has about arrived, and Ethan is wondering where you are and if you were in a "meeting" with your grandmother," he said. "He saw a pink car in the driveway." He looked at my grandmother when he said that, and my grandmother grinned, amused.

"Yes, that is my car, Dear," she said and nodded. "Would you like a ride?" She raised an eyebrow in question, and Drew hesitated before he shook his head.

"Not at the moment, but thank you," he said. "I only came here to collect Chris." He gestured to me, and my grandmother looked at me, gave me a knowing smirk that had me cringing, before she looked at Drew again.

"Well," she said and patted her legs while she cleared her throat, "then, I guess it's not fair to keep them waiting." She flashed him a wink while she stood before she looked at me. "Come, Christina, Dear. I believe our presence has been requested."

I shook my head and bit back a small sigh. "Yes, Ma'am," I said while I stood as well. "I believe it has."

And with that, we walked out of the room and down to the basement with Drew trailing behind us.

And for good measure, I flipped him off, earning a small chuckle from him.

Damn, damn, damn.
