Chapter 44
"Grams, you should have told us that you were coming," Sheamus said when we entered the basement. He smiled and walked over to her, and I rolled my eyes and scowled. "How are you?"
"I am good, Sheamy," she said while she smiled at him. "I thought my granddaughter would have told you that I was coming." She gave me a pointed look and raised an eyebrow in question, and I shrugged and grimaced.
"I did," I said coldly. "I don't think Sheamus was paying attention when I told him." I gave him a pointed look, and he shrugged and pressed his lips into a thin line because I caught him in a lie.
My grandmother chuckled while she patted his cheek. "Now, how are you, my Dear?" she asked while she raised an eyebrow in question.
"Good, good," he said while he nodded. He gave her a quick hug and pressed a small kiss to her cheek, and she chuckled and hugged him back. "I am glad that you are here, Grams. Chris has been a pain in the ass." He looked at me and winked, teasingly.
I held back an eye roll while I scowled and narrowed my eyes. I didn't say a word while I folded my arms across my chest.
"Oh, is she now?" my grandmother asked while she pulled away from him. "Or is it you that is being a pain in the ass?" she asked while she pinched his cheeks and wiggled it a little, and he closed his eyes while he scowled and moved away from her.
"She's the one that is being the pain in the ass, Grams," Sheamus grumbled before he rubbed his cheek where she pinched him and grimaced. "I didn't do anything to her."
"Mmmmm." My grandmother tsked and nodded. "Now, why is it that I don't believe you?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I bit back a small smirk of amusement while I watched them.
Sheamus's face fell when she asked why she didn't believe him, and he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet, looking at me before he looked at her with wide eyes.
"He didn't do anything that bad, Grams," I said and rolled my eyes while I pressed my lips into a thin line. "Now, are you going to go ahead and sit and get comfortable? We're going to be watching some movies and eating here shortly."
My grandmother chuckled and nodded before she looked around the room. However, she stopped looking around when her gaze landed on Clarissa. "Oh," she said, sounding shocked and surprised that she was still here. "Hello, Dear," she said. "How are you?"
Clarissa hesitated and waved a little, not moving from her spot but moving closer to the edge of her seat. "Hi, Grams," she said hesitantly. "I am good. How about you? How are you?"
My grandmother smiled, but this one was forced when she nodded. "Good, good," she said before she cleared her throat, growing serious. "I am doing good, thank you for asking." She cleared her throat again and looked at me before she looked at my sister again. "Now, why are you still here? I thought your mother would have placed you in another boarding school by now."
"Grams," I warned and narrowed my eyes with a small scowl on my face. I set my jaw while I stared at her, not liking the fact that she said something like that.
My grandmother looked at me. She did not say a word and slowly blinked, and I could tell that she did not approve of my sister staying here.
I held back an eye roll and bit back a small scoff, annoyed. "Grams," I said again while I gave her a pointed look, not looking at anyone but her. "I'm serious."
She bit back an annoyed sigh before she shook her head and cleared her throat before she looked at my sister with a tight smile on her face. "Well," she said, "in any case, I am happy that you are here."
"Grams, why are you lying?" Ethan asked and cocked his head, studying her. "Y-"
"Ethan, shut up," I said, interrupting him. "This is not the time or place to discuss this. This is going to have to be between me, my sister, and my grandmother. No one else but us because we are the family that lives here."
"What about Drew?" Marcus asked and gestured to Drew, who was standing next to me, and I looked at him before I looked at Marcus with a raised eyebrow. "I mean, he still lives here unless you kick him out."
"It's none of his concern either, Marcus," I replied coldly and shook my head, setting my jaw while I looked at him. "He isn't family."
"Yet," Drew said with such emphasis in his voice that I didn't know if I believed him or not, and I rolled my eyes and scowled while I looked at him from the corner of my eye, but my heart skipped a beat before it started to pound fast and hard in my chest. "I am not family, yet, Sweetcheeks." He flashed me a small smirk before he winked again, and I had to make sure that my cheeks didn't turn red because all I wanted to do was blush but knew that I couldn't.
I bit back a small scoff and shook my head, pursing my lips in annoyance. "No," I said, making sure that my voice didn't shake. "That is never going to happen, Cupcake. You are never going to be part of this family, no matter how much my "mother" would enjoy it."
"Hmph." Drew bit back a small chuckle and raised an eyebrow in question. "Are you sure?" he asked and looked me up and down before he stared at me with something in his eyes that had my mouth growing dry. "I am sure that I can make you break until I have you screaming my name in bed." He flashed me another small wink, and I smirked and dipped my head closer to my chest, pushing my feelings to the side.
Shit, shit, shit.
"Oh, you wish, Cupcake," I said with a small laugh in my voice while I shook my head. I had to make sure that he didn't know how he was making me feel or the others that surrounded us, watching the conversation between us as if this was a game of tennis.
I sneered and narrowed my eyes while Drew's smirk grew deeper, and he dipped his head closer to his chest. "But that will never happen, and I can promise you that."
And with that, I turned away from him and went over to the seats, silently indicating that this conversation was done, at least for now...
