Chapter Seven
Crouching down, I stared the creature down, watching in shock that it copied my movements. Looking back at the pile of wood, I started backing up to the left. As I took a step the creature did as well, keeping up the same distance apart. Keeping a slow pace, I finally made it to the pile of wood, crouching down out of its sight. I let out a shaky breath, feeling panic rush through me. The exit and weapon were too far now, and unless the creature gave up I was stuck. I sat down, feeling my hand hit something.
A nail gun. How fucking convenient. I picked up the nail gun, looking it over to figure out how it fired. A chill ran through my spine when I heard a soft hiss, knowing the monster had started to inch closer. I glanced it over again, seeing the nail loaded and ready to fire. A burning tar smell became stronger and looking up, I saw the monster leaning over the pile of wood.
The creature had changed, there were glowing blue tubes going from the sides of the head to its back. And before I could think clearly I aimed the gun and fired, seeing the nail dig into one of the tubes. The monster shrieked and moved away out of sight. I stood up fast and saw it crouching down, making almost a whimpering noise. I clicked the nail gun and aimed again, seeing another nail hit the other tube.
The thing cried out again, sounding too human. Swallowing, I fired the nail gun again, hearing it sob before going silent. It was still breathing, but the damage was keeping it from moving. The burning tar smell was worse, making my head spin and vision blur. I had to get out before it recovered. Dropping the nail gun, I made my way to the exit, feeling my feet sway under me. Tar had gotten onto my shirt, and I'd explain it later to Kyle and Steve if I ever tell them.
My vision worsened, and before I could catch myself I felt myself hit the ground.

The floor felt soft. A floor wasn't supposed to feel soft. I opened my eyes, seeing my ceiling just barely in the setting light. I sat up and looked around, seeing my room in order. The tv could be heard through the door, meaning Kyle and Steve were home. Looking down, I saw my clothes were fine; no tears or even black tar.
"What... happened," I mumbled, hearing a loud commercial come on. Everything was normal, everything was too normal. How did I get home? Where was the creature? Where's the evidence?
I needed sleep. I needed evidence. I needed to forget what happened.
