Chapter Five

Amy heard the bell jingle as she opened the blood den door. "Ah, the luscious Amy. Welcome back." The bartender grinned.
"Luscious? Seriously?" Amy sat on a bar stool.
"My apologies, I overstepped." He shrugged.
"Where is Dante?" Amy crossed her arms.
"He's off on Weekends." The bartender said as he wiped a cup.
"Oh...well, thanks." Amy stood up.
"Hey! Don't you wanna know where he lives?" The bartender chuckled. Amy froze and looked back at him. "You do! Well, okay, you talked me into it. He lives on 7th street and Macon, in a one story, white house." The bartender pointed. Amy grinned and walked out of the door. She looked around and saw a street sign. It read 5th street in bold white letters. Amy started walking, following the street signs to 7th street.

Once she reached 7th street, she turned right, and gazed at all of the street signs, looking for Macon street. Amy saw Macon street up ahead, on the corner of a street. A small, one story house caught her eye, and she approached it. She grinned and walked up to the door. She hesitated to knock, but brought her fist to the thick wood, making a thump three times. The door swung open to reveal Dante, shirtless, with a toothbrush hanging out of the side of his mouth. "A-Amy?!" Dante pulled the toothbrush out of his mouth. She stared at his chest. There were scars all over his torso.
"Hey..." Amy said quietly.
"Come in, please." Dante stepped to the side as she walked in. He shut the door and watched as she gazed around his house.
"You have a beautiful home..." Amy turned to look at Dante, but he was gone.
"Thanks!" Dante shouted from the bathroom. He popped his head out into the hallway and saw Amy walking into his kitchen. He followed her and saw her sitting on his counter. "What are you doing here?" Dante asked.
"I just...well I didn't wanna be home, so I...the only place I felt I could flee to was wherever you were. You help me stay...I don't know...happy." Amy chuckled.
"Happy? Well, I guess you could say that." Dante shrugged.

Amy jumped off of the counter and looked up at Dante. "I just needed to get away for a bit. I guess I should get back before my mom freaks. Thanks for letting me in." Dante reached out, but she walked passed him before he could feel her skin.
"You still wanna get away?" Dante turned around.
"It'd be nice, yes." Amy stood stationary.
"Come on. I have a surprise for you." Dante walked to his bedroom and pulled on a shirt. He slipped into his shoes and led Amy outside and around the house. She saw a blue convertible parked in his driveway.
"How did you get this thing?!" Amy said excitedly.
"My parents spoil me a lot. But, I've learned to keep myself from becoming a jerk. By giving back to the biggest threat humans have; Your kind." Dante opened the passengers side and waited for Amy to get in. She watched as Dante stepped into the driver's side and slid the key into the port. He turned his head around and backed out of the driveway. Amy looked at the dashboard and saw Open across the top of a button. She grinned and pushed the white button. The roof of the car slid into the back of the car, making the wind flow through her hair. She laughed as Dante turned onto the highway. They drove faster. Amy slid her knees into the leather chair and grabbed the windshield. She laughed again and looked down at Dante. He grinned and pulled out of the highway. She sat back down as he slowed down and drove into the smaller roads. He turned a few corners. "Where's your home? I could drop you off, if you want." Dante asked.

"No, I-I-I Don't want to go home. I hate being there. It just reminds me of what I lost." Amy stared towards Dante.
"What do you think you lost?"
"My humanity, my life, my chance to have a normal life." Amy sighed.
"You didn't lose your humanity. If you had, then you wouldn't go to blood dens, you'd be out there, draining innocent people." Dante glanced over at Amy, but kept his eyes on the road.
"I guess-" Amy froze and glanced up at the sky. "It's gonna rain..."
"What?" Dante asked.
"Should I put the rooftop up? Or do you not care if your seats get wet?" Amy shrugged.
"I don't mind. They're leather." Dante smiled. Amy felt a warm hand on hers. She glanced over at Dante and saw him driving with one hand. She pulled her hand away and leaned on the door handle. Dante sighed and gripped the wheel with both hands again. Amy felt the car stop, and heard the hum of the rooftop closing. She glanced back at Dante as he turned to face her.
"Well do you want to go back to my house?" Dante crossed his arms.
"I mean...you know what? Sure." Amy smiled as Dante began to drive again.

Amy stepped out of the car and shut the door behind her. She followed Dante back inside and kicked the door shut. He stopped in the hallway and leaned against the wall.
"What?"
"Nothing. I don't really have anything to do here." Dante chuckled.
"Eh, as long as it's not my home, I'm good. My stepmother is just aggravating sometimes..." Amy sighed deeply.
"What's so bad about her? Doesn't she know you're a bloodsucker?"
"Not exactly." Amy whispered.
"What? How did you manage to explain the week you were turning?" Dante crossed his arms.
"Well...lucky for me, that week, my mom had to travel away, and the last day, when I got home, she grounded me for not being home when she got back."
"She should know, maybe not now or anytime soon, but if you never tell her, you might regret it." Dante shrugged. Amy grew silent and sat down.
"How can I find out more about what I am?"
"I don't know. You could ask an elder..." Dante shrugged.
"Where can I find them?" She asked, standing up.
"I'm not sure, I've never asked about them." Dante chuckled. "I could ask Andrew.."
"Andrew?" She asked as she walked passed him.
"You met him at the blood den." Dante followed her through his house. "He's the bartender."
"Oh, that guy. He was oddly nice." Amy shrugged as she peaked into his bedroom. "Comfy bed..." She said sarcastically as she stared at his small bed in the corner.
"I like to save money. Plus I don't really have girls over that much. You're probably the first to step into my room." Dante blushed slightly.
"You're weird." Amy smiled as she looked back at Dante.
"You are, too. I mean, who would ever like to be my friend...?" Dante looked down the hallway. Amy leaned over and looked at his inner arm.

Dante glimpsed towards her and frowned. "What?" He scoffed. Amy stood upright.
"Nothing, it's just weird to...I just don't expect someone as young as you to be so giving to something that could easily kill you." She shrugged and walked past him.
"What?" Dante chuckled quietly as he walked with her to his living room.
"Sorry, never mind." Amy scoffed as she sat on the armrest of a chair. Dante crossed his arms and stood in front of her.
"Is that bad, at least tell me that." He sighed.
"Well, no. I'm grateful I met you." Amy looked the other way. Dante stared at the carpet below his feet.
"Do you have friends besides me?" He asked.
