Things got a lot less awkward after the first morning, it took a day or two to adjust to this new experience but everything started to piece together again. Phil now also felt completely sure of everything now, he had his doubts at the beginning but it seemed as if this was meant to happen.
Dan was settling down nicely in London and had even got a part time job working in the local GameStop as a demonstrator for new arrivals. He basically got to spend three days a week playing brand new video games and helping potential customers decide which game they might enjoy.
Phil worked from home helping his brother Martyn with his management brand. Everything was going well for them and they both were enjoying life thoroughly. The two boys brought out the best in one another.
After the second month they spent living together, Christmas was approaching. Dan and Phil hadn't necessarily gone public with their relationship yet but both of their families knew about them. Since they had got together, Phil had only introduced one of his close friends to Dan as he didn't get a chance to see anyone else. Naturally, as he had only been in London for two months, Dan didn't know many people in the area so when Phil announced that one of his best friends PJ was having a Christmas party, Dan had mixed emotions.
"It will be fun!" Phil said the night of the party as he stood inside Dan's bedroom door frame. The younger boy responded in a positive tone, "Alright. Be out in a few minutes." Phil practically skipped into the lounge once he heard that.
Dan slipped on a festive green and red jumper and then looked at himself in the mirror. He took a deep breath in and out in order to calm himself.
The last time Dan had been at a party was the wedding the night he drunkenly slumped up Phil's apartment stairs. He wasn't particularly comfortable in daunting social situations such as nights out or parties but he was determined not to turn to alcohol tonight. He didn't want to make a bad impression on his boyfriend's friends. Dan fluffed up his fringe, put his earrings in and then proceeded to walk out to Phil.
Once he set foot into the lounge, he was greeted by Phil's bright blue eyes lighting up. It was funny how you could forget how much you loved someone from just being away from them for a few minutes. "You look amazing!" Phil said in awe of his partner. Dan laughed in a thankful manner, smirked and locked his brown eyes with Phil's. They exchanged a quick but meaningful kiss before the taxi interrupted by beeping the horn outside the apartment.
Dan was back to his usual self as they pushed into each other while walking down the stairs, it almost felt as if they were just two kids in primary school messing about in the playground.
The rain poured down heavily on the taxi window as the traffic for Christmas shoppers began to quicken. By the time they got to PJ's house, it was already forty minutes after the party had started. "Fashionably late?" Dan said unsurely with a small smile.
Phil pressed down on the buzzer as they both attempted to shelter themselves from the pouring rain by leaning into the door frame. The door was opened abruptly by a green/blue eyed, curly haired boy. "Phil, Dan! Oh great, you came. Better late than never." The boy said with a smile on his face.
"Thanks for inviting us, Peej." Phil replied brightly. Dan gave his thanks to PJ as they all walked through the door and up the stairs to the party. The younger boy's stomach dropped and suddenly became very nervous. Phil turned around to say something to Dan when he noticed his worried expression. Phil squeezed his boyfriend's hand tightly and whispered "It'll be fine."
Dan took Phil's word and continued walking up the stairs until they eventually reached the room where the party was on. The pair exchanged a look as they heard the sounds of people having fun and music being played from speakers. "It'll be fine." Dan replayed Phil's words in his head as PJ opened the door to reveal the party.
As the door opened, Dan quickly realised that it was not going to be fine. It was going to be the opposite.
