seven
Everything changed after that night. The truth was out now and both of them knew how much they cared about each other but something didn't feel completely right.
As they walked up the stairs hand in hand in blissful silence the very night it happened, Phil's brain was full of thoughts. "What just happened? He likes me too? What now? So are we friends or are we more? Do I ask him? Would that be weird? Should I just assume we're together now?" He thought frantically as they walked up the stairs slowly but surely.
He decided to simply go with the flow and just continue the night and make it as wonderful as the rest of the day had been. After what seemed like hours, the pair finally reached their destination and as soon as he was able, Dan ran into the lounge and flopped onto the couch. "So. What do you want to do now?" He asked the older boy with a grin plastered on his face.
Phil walked over to the sofa and sat next to his friend. "I don't mind really, I'm just exhausted after the day." He said, locking eyes with the brown haired boy. Phil was unable to refrain from showing his feelings now that his attraction to Dan was no longer a secret. Dan bit his lip and edged closer to his blue eyed friend. He tilted his head closer to the other boy and Phil responded to this action by pulling the younger boy closer and allowing him to rest his head on his shoulder.
The brown eyed boy nuzzled his face into his friend's arm and looked up lovingly at him with a smile. "Thank you." Dan said quietly. As he relaxed back into a cuddling position, Phil began to play with Dan's hair, softly rubbing each strand. This moment was so perfect for the both of them and they both wanted time to stop.
Neither of them wanted to think about the consequences of their actions that night, they ached for each others presence and never wanted to let the moment pass. So they didn't think, they just lived in the present and enjoyed every second.
The next morning, Dan woke up with his head buried in Phil's shoulder on the sofa. He had woken up first so he lifted up his head to turn and look up at the sleeping Phil. A smile immediately crept across his face as he scanned the other boy's face. In Dan's mind, everything about his older friend was perfectly imperfect. Even the way Phil's hair fell caused little butterflies to float around his stomach.
No one he had ever met in his whole life had such an effect on him more than Phil did. It was unclear to him how the unlikely event of his drunken self leading him to Phil ended up how it did. He was so thankful for all of the things that led up to the very moment the pair were sharing now but it seemed almost awkwardly unexplained.
He had no idea why or how he deserved this but the young boy didn't want to question it. Something did feel a bit off, almost as if they were a puzzle and a piece was missing. Dan tried to shake off the feeling and continue living happily. It hadn't even been a day since the pair had exchanged feelings but it felt as if they had been in love since forever. Neither of them wanted it to end, but neither of them knew what "it" even was.
Dan decided to quietly make his way to the kitchen and attempt to surprise Phil with pancakes so that they could set the record straight while eating maple syrup on pancakes.
Phil wasn't much of a deep sleeper but he surprisingly was not woken by Dan's swearing in the other room partnered with the sound of utensils being dropped. The brown haired boy had discovered that he didn't necessarily have a knack for cooking but he still desperately tried to make the pancakes look presentable. In the end, they turned out decent and he brought them into his friend.
Several moments later, they were sitting eating pancakes while rewatching old friends episodes. "These are really good, Dan! But why did you make them, if anything takes more than ten percent of effort neither of us usually do it." Phil said with a laugh. "Just some panks to say thanks." Dan exclaimed ironically with a snort while squinting his eyes with his head forward and his top lip pushing against his gums. Phil rolled his eyes while giggling and finally asked the burning question that they were both aching to know the answer to.
"So, uh, what are we now?" Phil asked, looking hopeful. Dan shrugged and responded. "I don't know, I mean we both love each other so I guess we probably should be a different status at least." Phil fixed his jet black hair before he said anything. "Boyfriends it is then." He said dominantly, half joking around and half serious. Although it didn't feel as if everything was fully there, Dan laughed and nodded. "Alright then boyfriend, are you ready to get your ass beat at Mario Kart?"
That very moment was the start of a new story, a new life for both of the boys. Everything started off so well. But oh how Dan and Phil wished it stayed well for longer.
