TIME: 7:35 P.M.

Brian ran a hand over his face as he stepped into the apartment, leaving his keys in the trinket dish they kept on top of a cabinet in the entryway. It had been a few weeks now, but it was still strange to step into the apartment without Evan by his side.

Though, the thought of Evan was quite the weight at the moment. Not just because he'd have to leave him at the facility- even though all the staff members told him how wonderful his recovery was going!- but because of the conversation the two of them had during his visit earlier.

FIVE HOURS EARLIER

"Brian!" Evan shot up from his seat, rushing forward to meet his boyfriend and wrap his arms around him. "I missed you." Evan inhaled, trying to savor the moment as best he could.

Whatever anxiety had plagued him the entire trip there instantly alleviated as soon as Evan hugged him, allowing Brian to return the gesture. His fingers carded through Evan's hair. "Missed you, too, Ev. The nurses say you're doing good, is that true?" That question alone sparked an immediate interest, and soon the two of them were sat on the grass outside, speaking as if the circumstances were entirely different. Evan, aside from an occasional swivel of his head in a random direction, acted just like he always did. Excited, exaggerated movements, and a chaotic electricity that drew Brian in every time. Brian, on the other hand, watched on with a lazy smile, happy to see his boyfriend so at peace. If he closed his eyes, he could let the background fade away and the two of them would be on the living room floor, the TV on mute behind them while Evan explains some crazy theory or backstory of a show, a bowl of popcorn between them.

"Have I ever told you how many revenge plots I have going on right now?" There is no TV or popcorn, and Brian is on the grass outside of a mental health facility.

"Excuse me?"

Evan blinks, in a complete state of calm. "Brian, you know how I love a good long con, right?"

"Of course."

"Well, I'm kind of running a few of them at the moment."

"How? I thought it was just the Craig thing."

"Yeah, but that's just one of them. I got a couple more."

Brian sat up straighter. "What do you mean?"

Something flashed in Evan's eyes that he couldn't understand but it was gone before he could be sure it was even there. His boyfriend grabbed both of his hands. "Well, I was gonna talk to you about this on our way over here, so you could spend these last few weeks thinking about it, but I thought it might be a little stressful, so I didn't. But, y'know, things are going well between us, so I thought it was only fair to share my schemes with you."

"Schemes?" Brian didn't feel proud of it, but there a laugh in his voice. "Evan, I don't care about the shit you do."

"Yeah, because you don't understand the extent of it all. So, I want to tell you." Evan stared into his very soul, and Brian let him. "Every person I have something against, and the things I plan to do to them. Starting with Craig."

"I thought you were done with him. Like, you already let out the blackmail and everything."

Evan rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure, I ruined his social life, but I want to ruin his entire life, Brian. So, his boyfriend broke up with him and his friends called his crazy then ditched him. That sucks. But, its nothing he can't come back from."

Brian felt as if something had shifted between them. "There's more to it?"

"So much more."

A smile spread across Brian's face. "Tell me."

"I think that about covers it." The two of them were lying beside each other on the grass, Evan curled into Brian's side.

Brian felt Evan's eyes boring into the side of his face, but he focused his attention on the sky above him- the trees that swayed in the breeze. "Wow. You weren't kidding about the long con, huh?"

"It's too much, isn't it?"

It was a lot of information to digest, that was for sure, but Brian wasn't dwelling on that so much as he was dwelling on the little time they had left together. "I liked that look in your eyes while you were explaining- very mastermind of you."

"So, that's what you're into, huh?"

Now that Brian was back in the apartment, though, he realized the gravity of the words.

All of Evan's plans- down to the most intricate of carefully thought-out details- were now floating around in his head. The only person that Evan had trusted this information to. Things were pretty serious between the two of them, weren't they?

Especially if he considered how far back some of the plans accounted for; he was talking about years of planning things out and getting things in motion.

The Jordan thing.

His previous bout of depression.

Things he wasn't even sure how to categorize it.

The Craig thing? The thing that he had thought was over and done with only to realize that Evan wasn't still deep in a plot to ruin that man. That was- for lack of a better word- insane. His boyfriend, against his better judgment, might actually be crazy.

But, if he was being honest, he was kind of into it.
