Chapter 3

KNIGHT'S POINT OF VIEW

"You're weak, useless creature. We should have wiped out your species centuries ago!" Tyler spat at Knight, making Knight transform mid stage. They start circling each other, both of them waiting to see who would make the first move.

"I didn't ask for this! They turned me!" Knight growls, twirling his pure gold dagger. He's surrounded, ten to one, and if he makes it out alive that itself would be a miracle.

Tyler puts on his amused grin, his fangs sharper than a thousands knives together, it could pierce through anything. Fortunately for Knight, werewolf fangs are just as sharp. "If I were you, I would hate werewolves."

"Who says I don't?" Knight replied about to strike, but as quick as lightning Tyler was there piercing Knight's dagger in his chest. Knight didn't know how Tyler got his dagger, but he does know that vampires have really fast reflexes. Faster than werewolves.

The death part weirdly enough never came, but Knight felt all the pain. All he wanted was to die, so he wouldn't have to feel it anymore.

"You'll never beat me, you'll never win, and you'll never be able to protect Amber. She's the Headmaster's girl now."

He immediately woke up sweat pouring down his face and sticking all over his body. He walks over to his nightstand that shows it's 5:30 A.M.

Let's see, I came home at 1:10 A.M. so little less than four and a half hours of sleep isn't bad.

Man, I met this Tyler dude for five minutes and he's already haunting me.

Why did he mention Amber? Is it a sign she's in danger?

Please, we're werewolves, we're always in danger, especially semi-werewolves, which I just so happen to be...

Yeah, why is being a semi-werewolf so bad?

I don't know...but then Tyler mentioned...the "Headmaster"? Who is the Headmaster? Is the Headmaster a authority figure of a school or academy? Maybe the ruler of all vampires? The possibilities are practically endless....

This...creature sounds dangerous though, whatever they are.

Tyler mentioned it before too, not just in my dream but in real life, and Amber got really mad at the mention of 'Headmaster.'

Huh, maybe I should try ask Amber today...

Yeah, good luck with that.

Knight walks over to the kitchen, can't help but to think about the nightmares that he's been experiencing. It's always bad when he encounters vampires and even worse when he's in the presence of one, but he'll never be in the presence of one unless it's to finish them off to save his own skin. Partnering up with vampires is just impossible in this world he now lives in.

AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW

She wakes up to a dreamless sleep and goes into her usual morning routine. She doesn't have a visual of what the time is, but there's a family that is always here that come exactly at 6:00A.M. and leaves 7:00A.M. which is very convenient because if their still here, it's in the six o' clock range and if their not, then it's a sign to hurry up and get to school.

The only thing good about today is that it's Friday. Exactly one school week left, five days in counting.

A couple nights ago was an interesting time for Amber now that she looks back on it because every single time Tyler came, she was always alone having to deal with Tyler and his lagoon, but Knight was there and actually got her out of the situation. If it weren't for him, she'll probably be dead or worse.

Turning into a vampire isn't worst than death...

It is.

You're only saying that because you like werewolves.

And you're only offended because you like vampires...

Please, I am you're vampire side, whether you like it or not.

I think it's pretty obvious that I don't like you.

Well, that makes two of us.

Amber was astonished for a moment. She never had a verbal thought conversation so clear as that one. She knew her vampire side was fighting to surface, but now it feels even more intense than before.

She walks down the pathway to  school still trying to wrap her head around what just happened back at the park.

Nearly tripping by a pothole, she catches herself and stood up straighter, trying to act natural.

Huh, that's weird. That's a new pothole, but no one drives on this broken down dump.

She breaks part of the road off, and grabs a medium size rock from the damage she created. It didn't hurt her hand or anything, but it still shows a red mark.

She holds up the rock, ready to use it for self-defense if she needs to. She's less than a mile away from school, but she can smell the parking lot where the seniors are grilling their lunches, if they have meat and food to grill. It's a new school tradition that started a couple years ago. It states that any senior who wants to cook their food, may use the grill so its nice and warm when you eat it. The only catch is they would have to clean it right after.

Amber was never able to do it, the only food she eats is the school's nasty lunch, and sometimes breakfast if she's early. She always plans on crashing the party and taking one of the seniors lunches, the seniors who are jerks to everyone, but she never follows through, no matter how much she wants to do it, it's wrong.

Please, if I was separated from you or at least in control, I would do it in a heartbeat. I would take everyone's lunches...

And that's why I'm not doing it, you'll enjoy it too much.

You are the puniest werewolf, I have ever met.

And you're the cruelest vampire I've ever known, and that's why I can't let you in control.

One of these days you won't be able to help it, you know that right? I'll be in control and you will be gone.

The thought of her vampire side set free will be the worst day of her life...and everyone elses life. She knows that if that day ever comes, her werewolf side will be gone, her werewolf side wouldn't be strong enough to stay within, it's barely strong enough to stay in control.

A tree twig snapped and she immediately threw the rock at the direction where she heard it. "Woah, you could've hit me!" A familiar voice replied coming to the open with both hands up in a mocking surrender.

"What are you doing here?!" Amber hissed, mad that Knight was the one that startled her. She'll prefer it to be Tyler instead, at least she could try to kill him or at least attack him.

"I...um, I was walking. We do have an hour to waste before school starts..."

"No, Knight. I don't want to know your back story, I want to know why you're here!? It wasn't to waste an hour of school...Or you can even tell me how you found this place, only I know about this road..."

"Well, not anymore." Knight replies mockingly. Amber walks over and slaps him in the face. Knight backs away, eyes turning a darker yellow, but he doesn't transform.

"Ow..."

She walks right past him, not really wanting to deal with him right now.

Great, now I need to find a new pathway that no one knows about and leads to the school...that's IMPOSSIBLE!

"Hey, wait up! I'm sorry!" He shouts from behind, but Amber still continues walking, not even looking back. He grabs her shoulder and she turns around getting out of his grip.

He backs away terrified for a moment, but in a split second he went to a unreadable expression. "What is it?" She asked, her tone softening as she goes.

"Nothing..."

"Tell me." She said firmly trying to leave no room for an argument, but Knight just shakes his head stubbornly, leaving it at that. More frustrated, she starts walking away, but slower so he could catch up with her.

"You know, you still haven't told me why you're..."

"I sniffed you out, I wanted to ask you something, but it's not important now. Sorry I caught you at a bad time." He said truly remorseful, making Amber feel guilty.

"I'm sorry too, I didn't mean to slap you." Knight immediately starts laughing at her comment making her smile.

"Trust me, I deserve it, but just out of curiousity, why do I deserve it?" Knight asked.

Amber starts laughing trying to find the right words. "This road is my pathway to school, but only I know this road. No one else has set foot on this road in years. The only scent on this road is mine, but then I heard a twig snap, and I knew someone was here, that they found my secret pathway. I'm always greeted by stares, all the time, this was my escape route from that." Amber looked away from Knight and towards the trees. The trees were swaying back and forth matching the harshness of the wind. The wind was picking up fast.

Why did I tell Knight that?

"Oh, sorry I didn't mean to intrude." He said not really knowing what else to say, for all he knew, he was just going to ask her a question, but Amber isn't quite in the mood for that.

"It's okay, if anyone was going to find this place... I guess...I would want it... to be you." Amber staggered, trying not to make it sound too much like a compliment.

"Woah, did Amber whatever her last name is, just compliment me?" He asked astonished, but Amber noticed the amusement behind it.

I feel like he's amused all the time, is there ever a time he's not amused?

When you slapped him for starters.

I said 'sorry'...

I know, just saying.

"Yeah, don't get use to it...and for the record, I'm not going to tell you my last name." She said, watching Knight mockingly put a hand over his heart.

"Wow, that hurts, that really stings..but you do know I could just look up the school files right?" Knight said dramatically, happy he found a loophole to her plot.

He's such a drama queen.

"Including me there are five Amber at that school, but let me make this easier for you, I never gave the school my last name, so that plan back fired... Now that I think about it, I can actually look up your real name." She replied, thinking it through.

This way, I wouldn't have to call him by that stupid nickname of his.

"How do you plan on doing that? You don't really have a lead as to what my real name is or even what it starts with. So game, set, mat..."

"Not quite. I know every single student that attends our school by first and last name, so yours will be the one I don't know." She smiled over at him seeing the blood physically drain from his face.

Quick as lightning, his amused smile is back. "First of all, that's really creepy. Stalker much? And secondly, I never gave the school my real name. I'm literally registered as 'Knight'." He said making her even more confuse as to why he acted the way he did before, but she knew something was up when immediately after he had his amuse grin on, she just didn't expect that.

"So it seems we both have no leads on each others names, and since there's  thousands of possible names, I'm not even going to bother." Knight nods his head in agreement.

I'm not going to try to find his name when he doesn't want it to be found. It's a complete waste of my time, I'll just wait until he feels like he could trust me. I'll tell him mines when I feel like I can trust him, but let's be honest, there's a week left of school, and then he's gone...we won't get there.

For now, his stupid nickname will have to do...just for the week.

I only need to survive a week!
........

Amber entered into her chorus class, happy it's the last class of the day. She never sings, if anything, she mouths the words, but no one has ever heard her sing, and she's going to keep it that way.

There was never a person that cared about her singing, not even the teacher, so she felt like there was no point in singing, even if it is one of her favorite things to do, she hides her true voice from the world.

"Well, hello again?" Her jaw literally dropped as she turned around to see Knight right there. He was in all her classes today, Marine Science, Social Studies, and now Choir, each one being a hundred minutes long.

"You signed up for choir?" She asked in disbelief, not really seeing it in him.

"I got quite a voice." He said wiggling his eyebrows.

"Doesn't mean you're good..."

"I never said I was...Huh, I'm actually just as astonished as you are seeing you're here, but here we are..."

"You're not stalking me right? Because five out of the six classes we have is together and that can't be a coincidence." Amber asked.

He shrugs, not really knowing what to say. "Would you believe me if I said 'I didn't pick my classes?' They just filled me in wherever." She looks at Knight in disbelief, but said nothing. A annoyed look flash across Knight's face, but disappeared as quick as it came. "Don't believe me?"

"No, and why do you care if I believe you? I don't believe you half of the time anyway and I don't care about what you do with your life." Amber answered confused as to why Knight cares so much about her opinion. Out of the blue, Knight's eyes starts turning a darker gold making Amber anxious.

"Knight are you okay..."

"You know, I never put you and music together. Or anything together. You seem... unique in a way that all you care about is yourself..."

"How dare you! If I only cared about myself, I wouldn't have asked if you're okay..."

"Says the girl that doesn't allow anyone to go on the abandon road." Knight added in a harsh whisper. Weirdly enough, no looks towards them, or pays attention to them.

"You don't know what I've been through, what I had to experience. You walk into my life, and what? Annoy and bother me with every word you say, with every gesture you make, with everything you do. You think I like to hang around with an arrogant, selfish, annoying jerk like you!? You may have fooled the school, but not me...And the next time you accuse someone of something, and make a assumption of what their life is like, put yourself in their shoes, think before you say something, and watch yourself. You don't want what you say to hurt someone or make them angry, both which are deadly in your case." Amber emphasized, her anger getting harder to control by the second.

Stop ahead Amber, you're losing control, don't make it worse!

I'm losing control! His eyes were glowing way before I felt mines.

"Is that a threat?" He asked eyes glowing a darker gold practically a dark orange, signifying that transformation will occur soon if Knight doesn't calm down. "For your information, you act high and mighty yourself. Don't just throw me under the bus..."

"I'm done, Knight. Now get out of my face, before I punch it." She threatened, and though there's no mirrors around she knows her eyes are glowing darker than normal, she can feel it.

"You don't scare me..." she raised her clenched fist, but he caught it and twisted it behind her back, pressing her against him. She tried to get out of his hold, but he didn't budge. His hold was so tight it's starting to form bruises. "You have know idea who you're dealing with, so I suggest you pick your fights well. Make sure you can actually win." He whispered in her ear, releasing her when she finally stopped struggling. She looked at him furious, but she couldn't hide her shock either, she never thought Knight would do that.

And she never seen eyes as dark as his in that one moment.

Wow, that's so unlike Knight. Even looking at him, he seemed different...but part of it isn't his fault, he doesn't know how to control his anger, making him lash out and werewolf powers coming into play.

He's a natural born! He's suppose to know how to control his anger.

It just proves that you can't trust anyone.

But I wonder what happened, how did that happen? I forgot what caused it.

I told you I hated him, Wolfy...

First of all, don't call me that. Second of all, I'm starting to see why you hate him, I guess you saw something in him I didn't.

Amber watches Knight go to Mrs. Wishwel acting like everything's normal, it makes her sick. People didn't notice their chat they had, reassuring Amber. She should have controlled her temper better, they both should have.

Looking back, Amber doesn't know who's right or wrong. She sits in her seat refusing to make eye contact with anyone especially Knight. It wasn't the first time Amber was threatened by a werewolf, but it definitely wasn't that intense, she merely got into an argument.

Amber turns to her music, suddenly feeling better, knowing that music soothes both sides of her. The two songs their practicing is "Don't Stop Believin' by Journey" and "Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi," two songs Amber loves to listen too, but never sings.

She only sings when she's alone, but even then she usually doesn't sing, you never know where vampires are stalking you, watching you.
