Chapter 5

KNIGHT'S POINT OF VIEW

When they got back to Knight's car, the rain dialed down, but the wind got even stronger, to a point where they were swaying left to right due to where the wind was heading. Knight goes to open his passenger door for Amber, but the wind forced him to the left opening the back door instead. Amber opened the passenger door herself, and the wind slammed it shut.

Not knowing what to think about what just happened, he closed the back door, and walked around, quickly opening and closing his door. He looks over at Amber to see she was breathing just as hard as he was.

No one wins against the wind.

"How was that weather? Pretty crazy, huh?" He asked trying to lighten the mood as he turned on his car. Amber opened her mouth to say something, but a sneeze came out instead of words. Seconds later she sneezes three times in a row.

"Hey, you okay?" He asked, already knowing she's sneezing because she's cold and soaking wet. He turns off the air conditioner and turns on the heater.

"Yeah, I think it's because of your car." She replied sneezing again. He starts reversing out of the stall looking at Amber.

Sure, blame the car.

"I guess I'm sorry... Wait you think it's the car's fault? I mean I only cleaned it a week ago, so I guess a clean car makes you sneeze..."

"I think it was the materials that you used to clean your car with, it's still in here." She said stubbornly getting her point across. She sneezes again only louder this time. Knight took this time to actually start driving can't believe she thinks it's his car.

I told her she will get sick if she stayed out there, and now she's experiencing it.

And she actually thinks it's the cars fault!? What? She has allergies she never knew about?

Only humans have allergies.

Exactly!

I can't reason with a crazy person!

She sneezes a couple more times, and Knight does his best to ignore them. The road's bumpy and full of rocks making it harder to drive in this weather.

Amber puts her head on the window, her eyes slowly closing. Knight stops at stoplight and looks at her. She seems peaceful when she's sleeping, not a werewolf, or any mythical creature, just someone who needs help and is going through a tough time.

I can't imagine living on a park bench for several years...how does she do it? Even the showers in the bathrooms are horrible, always cold and the floor wet...I would die!

Why did she run away? She's a natural born so her family must have accepted her, right?

She never said she ran away.

She didn't have too, she obviously  didn't stay so that leads to run away.

Yet something seems off about her running away at twelve, and the story she told me.

Knight snaps out of it when those amber eyes opened and stared into his. "Knight?" Amber asked not knowing how to react. She shifted in her seat trying to get comfortable under his gaze, but it didn't work, and Knight knows his gaze was bothering her.

I was just curious, I want to know when, why..

"Sorry, I was just thinking...how old were you when you ran away from home?" The question came out so fast, he didn't have time to stop himself.

"I prefer not to talk about it." She grumbled, closing her eyes again. Knight left it at that, though he has a pretty good idea how to find out.

All I need to know is how old she is now, and how old she was when she left home.

Do I really need to know?

Why did she run away?

Is she dangerous?

He looks over at her, who's already fast asleep. He didn't deem her as dangerous, but he doesn't really know her either and the only reason why she's here with him was because he felt bad about what he did earlier and he didn't want her in the rain to get sick just as he did.

I hope I can trust her, but just incase, I'll put my guard up.
..........

AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW

Amber woke up to someone shaking her. She looked at Knight, slightly annoyed, and went back to sleep.

Knight shakes her again only harder this time. "What!?" She snapped, fully awake now.

That was one of the best sleeps I had in a while and he just ruined it.

Granted it was a dreamless sleep, but I'll take that any day over nightmares... or memories.

"We're here." He perked. She looks out the window to see this small house painted a faded gray color, small porch with a small couch, a little built in cover over the couch, and a dark brown door. The house was beautiful despite the dark clouds making the house look haunted.

"Wow, this is your house?" She questioned still looking at the house.

"Yep..."

"And you live by yourself? How do you pay the mortgage?" She followed up, trying to fit the pieces together and to how he found this place, or still lives in it.

"It was payed off when my parents gave it to me." Knight replied quickly, his voice was a tad bit lower.

"You don't say." She suspiciously replied, no longer looking at the house in front of her. Suddenly, Knight opens his driver's seat door, steps into the rain, and runs into the house.

Not knowing whether to follow or not, Amber just sat there. She didn't see that coming, but yet again she didn't know what will happen when she finally got here.

Seconds later he comes running out with an umbrella open in his hand. He opens Amber's door and puts the umbrella over her, getting soaked himself. "Sorry, I left the umbrella at home. Okay on three we're going to run into the house, got it?" He asked receiving a nod for an answer.

The front door is at least sixty feet away from the door, if she wants to she could just run, but she's still soaking wet from before and doesn't think it's a wise idea to get even more wet.

Knight hands her the umbrella no longer under it. Amber took it and mumbled a "thank you".

"One, two, three!" He immediately started running leaving her there.

She decided to walk to the house due to her actually having the umbrella, there's no need to run. Knight waits there impatiently as he holds the door open and taps his foot on the ground in a hurried beat.

When she got on the porch under the roof, she closed the umbrella, and handed it to Knight who just threw it on the couch. Before she could say anything he started the conversation. "Now, I wasn't expecting company so the house is a little, just a little messy." He waits for some acknowledgement, and when he receives a small nod he opens the door.

Expecting to see little safety violations such as little pieces of trash on the floor, she steps in with ease. "It's not that bad." Seeing just a pile of newspapers next to the front door. He directs her further in, towards the living room.

It took everything in her not to scream. She backed away, running out of the house, refusing to go back in there.

"Amber..."

"You know what, you offered me to come here, and I didn't really want to come, but I said 'yes'. But you never told me that you are a sloppy, messy..."

"Hey, I did imply that my house was kind of messy..."

"Kind of? Knight, your house is a garbage can! I mean seriously, there are trash bags pile up to the ceiling!" Amber countered, sitting down on the porch couch, on the other side of the umbrella.

"It's only the living room. I just got a little lazy and at the moment I don't have a trash can..."

"The house didn't come with it?" Amber questioned.

"It did, I just threw it out because it was a little broken, and I didn't like it..."

"Your kidding me right? You know what, this is unacceptable. I'm not going in there, and neither are you." She swiftly blocks the door.

"I'm not?" He questioned, this clearly amusing him though he knows the subject is no laughing matter. Amber couldn't even look at the beautiful house anymore knowing that the owner is careless about the house's cleanliness.

"No, you are going to drive us to the store and you are getting a trash can..."

"I am?" Knight asked twirling his car keys around his fingers. Knight's trying as hard as he can to hold in his laughter, just seeing Amber all serious and bossing him around on his own territory is hilarious.

Suddenly Amber took the car keys from his hands, unlocking the car. "Please, by all means, ladies first." She gestured towards his car that is finally visible due to the rain going away.

"Age before beauty." He countered, with a smirk of his own.

"Your car, you're leading." She barked, mad that he thought of something so fast to counter her argument. He walked in front with a satisfied smile on his face, it took everything in Amber not to smack it off, but instead to follow behind him.

Not to mention he's so not beautiful... I mean just a little...but not very noticeable. He's decent looking. If anything he would be the age, but I don't see myself as 'beauty' either, I'm just this plain, unspecial, cursed girl.

I don't think you were suppose to take that literally you know.

Amber walks over to the passenger seat and opened the door, happy to get inside and out of the rain. She looks around the car. She looks at the back seat, and in front of her. The car is spotless, not what you expect to see when your living room is filthy.

"Your car...is spotless." Amber said astonished, not seeing a single piece of trash. She was having a hard time comparing the car to the house.

He's messy in house, but clean in the car, shouldn't it be the other way around?

"Believe it or not I don't like my things getting trashed and messy..."

"Says the guy who has at least twenty garbage bags in his living room, reaching the ceiling." Amber's witty comment got Knight rolling his eyes at her, which got her laughing.

"Ha ha, very funny. And it's not to the ceiling, you're just exaggerating..."

"Well sorry I didn't stay long enough to get a better look." Amber smirked.

"Seriously though, I like my things clean." He emphasized, causing Amber to look at him. That sentence he just said is still debatable in Amber's book.

If he likes things clean, he would have bought a trash can to keep his living room clean.

Though his car is spotless, not a single trash in sight, maybe he does like his things clean...

Maybe the trash is under his seats so no visitors can see?

Amber now has this sudden urge to check under the seats to prove him wrong, and prove to him that he's actually a messy person, but she decided to wait until they got to the store.

She doesn't know why it's important, but she feels like this debate between them has suddenly become a competition, a competition she wants to win.

"We are here." Knight exclaimed reversing into a parking stall.

"Coolpies.."

"'Coolpies'?" Knight immediately questioned, raising his eyebrows.

"Yeah, it just means 'cool' or 'that works for me' you get the gist of it."

"Yeah, I just never heard anyone say that before..."

"Well, you're hearing it now." Amber interrupted, wanting to move on. Having to explain it kind of ruined her enjoyment of making the words up.

When she was kid, and got bored pretty easily, she would make up words or combine words together. Those were the days she didn't have to worry about being chased by a vampire or anything, she could just relax at her bench not having to constantly be on guard.

Of course, when she was in six grade that's when the vampires started noticing her, all because she transformed in front of a group of high school vampires who were bullying her. She transformed for self-defense.

"Hey, you okay?" Knight asked sincerely as they walked into Walmart. She looks over to Knight who looks back to her. He gave a small smile which Amber returned.

"Yeah, just lost in thought." She answered, tensing up a bit. That day when she transformed in front of the high school vampires is one of the worst days she has ever experienced. She has a lot of bad days now that she looks back on her life. At least she doesn't have to worry about the high schoolers anymore since she killed them with a gold dagger they had. They were stupidly playing with it.

Knight noticed the tension, but quickly let it go.

"So, what's your ideal trash can? Wow, those are words I never thought I would ever say." She laughed trying to lighten the mood a bit. It worked. Soon Knight and Amber were both laughing, forgetting about that awkward moment.

"I like the ones that open up when you step on it." Knight replied as they walked through the cleaning isle. Amber leaves him and heads over to the opposite side. She immediately found one.

"Knight, they're over here!" She shouts across the isle, receiving glares from the other customers. Not really seeing the problem in calling someone across the isle, she glares back.

Knight grabs the cheapest one and puts it in a cart Amber didn't even know they had. They start heading back to the counter when she notice a man was closely behind them. She stands alert, but doesn't worry too much about it. She never seen him before so there's a possibility that it's just a mere human.

See that's the problem with humans, werewolves, and vampires, they look exactly the same, until someone transforms.

Yeah, but usually the scents are different...

But if you spend a lot of time with humans you start to smell like them.

True, and though this guy smells like a human, he can surely be a vampire.

When they were checking out, the man disappeared to a different isle and she immediately relaxed. Knight seemed less tense now that the man's gone too, he must have noticed him back at the cleaning isle as well.

"Thank you," they said simultaneously as they head out.

"You noticed him?" Amber whispered, receiving a nod in return.

"Yeah, he smelt like a human, but I saw his fangs back there when he wasn't looking at us." He puts away the cart and walks back over to Amber carrying his big garbage can.

"Okay, so now that I have a trash can, will you come into my house, it's still pouring..."

"Yeah, I can see that." Amber slightly grumbled. She wanted to go home to her bench by now. Knight felt even more uncomfortable, he knows that Amber doesn't really want to be with him. "Sorry, I just wished the rain has stopped by now..."

"No worries, I understand." He reassured.

Man, dealing with rain is the worst. Everything's wet, and it's hard to see. Not to mention it burns me...

Yeah, but not too much and not very noticeable due to your stupid werewolf side who protects you more during rain storms.

You do know that you're a part of me right?! That stupid werewolf side, your words not mine, actually saves us from burning to death!

Fine, I'll give you that, I just hate the rain and werewolves.

Rain rain go away, don't come again any other day.
