Chapter 6
AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW
The rest of the car ride was in silence, both of them deep in thought. Amber was thinking about her water powers. She loves having water powers because using it on a vampire would instantly kill them. Vampires hate water, which makes sense, they disappear, turn into a puff of smoke, never to be seen again.
This power is an enormous blessing for werewolves to have, and those who have it are one of the strongest werewolves known. The only problem with Amber having it is she's half vampire, it burns her every time she uses it, so she has to find a new combat strategy, which she doesn't exactly have at the moment.
Knight pulls into his driveway, parking his car. The rain stopped already, and Amber can't tell if Knight wants her to stay or not. She was only suppose to stay there until it stopped raining and it has. Some part her desperately wants to go back, being here even for a few minutes has made her longing for her bench.
"Okay, I'll do what you want. Do you want to go to your bench or do you want to stay?" Knight turned towards her, waiting patiently for her answer. The sun is coming out, and it's hard to believe it's only 5:00P.M.
"Is it okay if we go back to my bench?" She answered.
Knight smiled. "I figured you would say that..."
"It's nothing personal." Amber interrupted half heartedly. She's tired and her stomach is in pain, everything's in pain. She just wants to go home, maybe she would feel better.
She tried not to show it, but she couldn't hide the pain. She started clenching her stomach, hoping that that would stop the pain, but it only made it worse.
"Amber are..."
Amber unbuckled her seat belt, opened the door, and ran out the door until she was about ten feet away. Suddenly, she threw up all the food she ate at lunch.
When she was done, she weakly walked back to an astonished Knight. She groans as she bends down to match Knight's level who's still in his seat shocked.
"Sorry, I'm...sure it's going to rain and wash that out...sorry." Amber slowly crawls back into the car, closing the door. "If you can, can you please take me back to my..."
"No." Knight responded, causing Amber to stop and look over to him. He was dead serious.
"I'm sorry, 'no'?" She asked in disbelief.
Just a second ago he said he would...is it because I puked on his lawn?
"You heard me. Obviously you're not feeling well, and nothing that bench could do to help you. I mind as well try to help you." He said sincerely, but something was bothering him, and Amber couldn't tell if it was because of her or something else.
"You don't seem quite thrilled to help me..."
"Let's just say I may or may not have any medicine, one of the perks of being a werewolf I guess." Knight opens his door. Amber does the same except a lot slower. The way Knight said 'I guess' was definitely fishy only Amber doesn't know why.
"Knight you don't have to do this you know, I'm sure I'll be fine. Besides we're werewolves after all, we're not affected by illness..."
"We may not be as affected as humans are, but we can still be affected. And could you truly say that in the state your in?" She shakes her head, making Knight smile. She was wondering why he smiled at her when she agreed with him, probably because she actually agreed with him.
"Okay, so I know it's a lot to ask of you," he started dramatically almost getting Amber to smile. "But can you please come into my house..."
"I don't know, that house is pretty scary, not to mention hazardous to my health..."
"Yes, but there are far more worse conditions for a house to be in." Knight raised his eyebrows, a signal of 'you know I'm right' look. Amber rolled her eyes, but agreed to go in.
She completely ignored the piles of trash bags and trash lying all over the living room. Granted the living room is small, but to have every inch filled with a trash bag or little pieces of trash is out of hand.
At least it's not packed up to the ceiling, he was right about that.
He leads Amber to a chair in the kitchen, and goes off to one of the kitchen cabinets. His kitchen is spotless, which makes it hard to believe that his living room is a mess.
"You make no sense..."
"This sounds familiar, deja vu..."
"No seriously though, you can let your living room become a dumpster, but not your kitchen?" She asked in disbelief knowing that she's pushing it, but the two are not making any sense to her. Nothing about Knight makes sense.
He turns around looking at her in disbelief. She could tell he's annoyed. She can't exactly tell him why this bothers her so much because she doesn't know herself.
"Look I'm sorry that my house isn't exactly what you had in mind, but it's still better than your bench anyday..."
"Is that so? Tell me, how many stars do you see at night due to all the streetlamps and house lights? How many times were you able to escape this neighborhood, transform into your wolf form, and run with no worries and without getting caught? How many times were you able to hear complete silence with no automobiles right outside your door?" She left him speechless. The room was quiet except for the automobiles across the wet road outside, which just supported her point even more.
"When was the last time you felt free?" Amber added. He turned around, his back facing her, and continued on what he was looking for completely ignoring Amber's comments.
Huh, I wonder what's the answer to the last question...
It must be nice to have cabinets to hold food, utensils, dishes, anything you want. It must be nice to have a bedroom with beds in them. It must be nice to have a living room to relax in...when it's not filled with trash. It must be nice to have money to buy basic needs. It must be nice to have a house!
Knight's lucky, but it does make me wonder how does he escape this humanized world? Every time he's going to transform, he needs to make sure windows are closed and no human or possible threats sees him. To have that worry on your shoulder must be hard to even like your werewolf form.
"Okay, I think I found something that will help," he said turning back around with a bright pink liquid. He poured a little bit in a cup and handed it over to Amber. She sniffed and immediately felt the nausea coming back up her throat.
I thought I got it all out...that, whatever that is, is nasty!!!!
She swallowed it back down and shoved the liquid away from her. Knight took it from her and gave it back, putting it closer to her. "Amber you need to drink this..."
"I thought you wanted to help me? Not poison me..."
"Amber, I never said the medicine tasted good I just said it would help." Knight shoved it more closer to Amber, but she crossed her arms and refused to drink it. "Fine, don't drink it, but I can't promise you that you will feel better..."
"My werewolf powers will kick in eventually and heal me..."
"Yeah, but how long will that take? You're not a vampire Amber, we don't heal as fast as they do." Knight replied. For a split second Amber's heart literally stopped beating, her whole body froze, but it was so fast Knight didn't notice.
Snap, that was close!
No it wasn't, he said 'your not a vampire' not that you are.
"Doesn't mean that I can't be healed..."
"Amber, quit being so stubborn and drink it." He shoved it in front of her showing no sign of amusement. Furious, she grabbed the cup and poured it all over his shirt. He jumps back his eyes glowing dark gold, it's taking everything in him not explode like before.
Amber gets up and walks out the front door, closing it quietly, but fast. She starts pacing on the porch trying to figure out what to do. Knight comes out seconds later, slamming the door shut. "Amber!" Knight shouts as he stands in front of Amber.
"Take me back, now! I feel fine..."
"No you don't. You're a terrible lair..."
"No, I'm not...ugh, if you won't take me back then I'll go there myself." She spat. She transformed midstage and started running. The moist, cool air stung her eyes, but running never made her feel so alive. She could do this all day and all night.
The only problem is she doesn't feel well and catching a ride would have been so much better.
She has been running for at least a half an hour having no direction. She's lost.
Her bench wasn't on her mind at all until now.
She slows down when she senses something's watching her. She turns around, expecting to see Knight, but no one was there. "Knight, stop being such a wimp and come out already."
No response.
She continues to walk further down the rocky path, but the further she goes the more she feels that sensation of someone watching her. "Show yourself!" Amber growls, her hairs along her arms and legs grow longer, any minute now she could be transforming into her wolf form.
She mentally forces herself to calm down, turning to her true form isn't an option.
"My my, they told me you were feisty, but I didn't believe it 'til now." The same man watching her at Walmart steps out of the shadows in front of her.
"Oh, I remember you. You are that guy who didn't have the guts to attack me in the store, but now that we're alone you think you could win." Amber hissed.
"Oh deary, who said I was alone." He sneered. Four more comes out of the shadows the five of them surrounding Amber.
Snap, there's too many...I'll have to stall them a bit...
Don't do it Amber, it could kill you!
I don't have a choice.
"You think I'm scared of you or your goons? I laugh at the likes of you." Amber sneered, only looking at the main guy, completely ignoring the other four.
"That's funny because I heard your not even one of us...or a werewolf," he snickered receiving a few laughs from his buddies. "And honey, you should be scared."
Does everyone know!?!
"Aww, that's too bad you guys know my secret because there's only one thing to do now, have my secret die with you." They came rushing towards her, but it was too late for them. Amber shoot water forth out of her hands hitting every last opponent watching them flash within seconds.
"Secret doesn't die with us! The others know..." Amber shoots the last man standing watching him disappear.
Looking down at her arms that's burned and bruised, she winced in pain. Not able to stand anymore, she fell down feeling the burns crawl all over her back.
Slowly, her world turns black.
I had to do it, it was my only chance of survival...
You're going to be the death of yourself!
Hey, I'm not going to die! I've never died before, I won't this time.
Besides, I could use some sleep anyway.
