Chapter 9

KNIGHT'S POINT OF VIEW

Knight tries to look up at his kidnapper, trying not to look down. No doubt it's a vampire. Carrying him to who knows where.

Knight reaches down to his dagger debating if he should stabbed his kidnapper. Knight dies that way.

It's either stabbing the vampire and falling to his death, or waiting for his kidnapper to put him down, and fight him like a man.

Stabbing's out.

He looks down knowing their at least thousand feet above the ground. His stomach turns, but he refuses to throw up in front of his kidnapper. As if sensing his discomfort, the vampire flys higher.

Furious at his kidnapper, he looks down, out in the distance, so he could try to figure out where they're going.

He suddenly sees a public bathroom with holes all over the ceiling and cracks along the sides of the walls. Moss, vines, and ferns all grow out of the wall in a yellow color.

Next he sees this big field, full of brown dead grass. It's shocks him for a moment, thinking back to the other field all vibrant green grass. This field is completely dead.

He has seen this field before just can't quite put his finger on it.

The parking lot right in front of the park gave it away.

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees this girl reading a book on a bench. The vampire turns in the direction where the girl is.

This is not good.

AMBER'S POINT OF VIEW

She continues reading her book getting to the very exciting turning point in the story. The sun has gone down completely by now, but the lamppost right next to her bench helps her see her book.

The orange glow of the lamppost is both a blessing and a curse. When she feels very anxious about a cliffhanger the orange glow adds the unnecessary touch to the story making it slightly more mysterious and frightening.

On the other hand, she needs it to see. Her enhanced night vision comes with her transformation, but she wants to stay in her human form as much as possible just in case anything happens.

Unexpectedly, a shadow blocks the light from going to her book making the place completely dark. She closes her book and looks up to see dark shadows flash down in front of her.

There's at least ten of them all surrounding her, but she doesn't pay attention to either of them, just the leader. "I was wondering when you were going to show up." Amber confessed, putting her book back in her backpack. She puts the backpack on the side of the bench.

"Oh, what? You didn't think we'll start leaving you alone, did you?" Tyler sneered. Amber glared daggers his way, her eyes glowing a dark orange. She felt her mid-stage surface, knowing exactly what her eyes look like. Dark orange with hints of black and red. No other werewolf have red in their eyes.

Well, at least the red is hardly noticeable.

She could see them clearly now, their all on full transformation. Some even had blood dripping from their fangs, but Amber avoided looking their way.

Tyler smiles as if he knows what she's thinking.

"Oh Tyler, Tyler, Tyler," she chanted mockingly. "I wish you told me it was a party, I would have dressed for the occasion. If only vampire skin made good coats, but sadly it doesn't. It feels quite dry in my opinion..."

"Please, if I had it my way, I would have made a fur coat by now..."

"Ah, but sweetie, you can't have things your way." Amber shot back at him, making him furious. She smiles as she struck the core with Tyler, knowing it drives him crazy when Amber's right.

The vampires creeps closer, but Tyler makes sure he's in front of the others. Amber decides to take the time to look at her opponents. Her eyes almost immediately land on Knight. Her anger slowly starts rising.

Why is he here?!

Irritated that Knight's here and that there's so much of them, not to mention that their so close, she starts scanning the crowd looking at each and every one of them, fury clearly written on her face. "Haven't you guys ever heard of a 'personal bubble'? It's nothing new, it just states that you need to be at least a thousand feet away, so back off!" She growled jumping up to a standing position.

All of them jumped back. They continue walking back until they were at least ten feet away, but Knight stayed where he was at. Her eyes stay on his. He's unusually calm.

"So we meet again?" Knight started off his voice calm due to the circumstances he's in. He glares at Amber, only thinking about how things left off. Amber glares back thinking of the exact same thing.

"Unfortunately yes, yes we do." Amber responds in the same calm voice with hints of dread. When the vampires came she never thought they would bring him here and she's still trying to figure out why they did.

It makes no sense.

"Unfortunate for me or for you? Because right now it seems much more unfortunate for me..." Knight started, but quickly was interrupted.

"You? You aren't the one being followed and chased by vampires..."

"And yet here I am surrounded by vampires!" He shouts, gesturing to the vampires surrounding him. "It's because of you that I'm put on their radar! You think I would be here willingly? No, I wouldn't. You think I would be here if I didn't know you? No, I wouldn't. So thank you so much for ruining my life." Knight finished.

"I didn't ask you to talk to me, and most definitely didn't ask you to barge into my life your first day of school," Amber shot back in the same tone he had, pointing a finger at him. He didn't say anything for a moment so Amber took the opportunity.

"And honestly I would say 'you're welcome' but I'll leave the honors for you because you're doing a splendid job all on your own!" Amber exclaimed, her eyes only on Knight's. The thought of vampires there has completely left their minds. This stupid argument is all their thinking about.

"Please, we all know I'm here because of you..."

"Are you kidding me? You're a werewolf, you're always going to be a target." Amber responds hushed, but slowly making sure he hears every single word. He starts pacing, but never once took his eyes off hers.

"Ocean or mountain?" Knight suddenly asked, catching Amber off guard. Out of all questions, he asks this one.

She suddenly felt that same emptiness she's been feeling from day one, ever since she ran away, but made sure she didn't show it.

"Why does it matter?" Amber asked sharply, not really wanting to answer the question, but also curious as to where he's going with this.

"Just answer the question." Knight presses. Amber looks over at him, his face expressionless, giving nothing away as to what he's doing.

"Mountain." She suddenly blurted out looking up at him, the lie tasting bitter to her lips, but Knight looks like he bought it.

"Ocean." He responded answering the question for himself. For some reason, that didn't come to a surprise to her. He seems like he would like the ocean more.

He doesn't seem like a person who likes heights, but I could be wrong.

"Your marshmallows burnt or light brown?" Knight asked, catching Amber even more off guard. Since when does marshmallows matter?

"Burnt." She answered with uncertainty not because of the answer, but because of the question. These are the most randomest questions on the planet.

"Figures." He mumbles under his breath, but thanks to Amber's great hearing, she heard it.

"Why does it matter?" Amber asked again, her voice slightly rising in anger. She answered his question and he just had to have some sort of side comment to set her off.

"Because we are exact opposites..."

"Oh you got that from two questions?" Amber skeptically asked crossing her arms. Not that she believes that they are alike in anyway, but that two questions isn't enough data to prove it, especially the content of it. Completely random.

"So light and dark is the exact opposite, and I'm gonna go on a limb here and saying you're the dark one..."

"Says the person who just said that to someone else. That's isn't very nice for a light...good person." Amber shot back furious that he thinks she's the bad guy here. In her eyes, he's the villain one hundred percent.

I guess that's another thing we don't have in common.

"I'm just stating the facts." Knight said matter of factly.

"Please, the shoe doesn't even fit..."

"Oh, trust me, the shoe fits." Knight quickly interjected. The sudden realization of them doing this for at least ten minutes is bizarre. The thing that worries her now is the vampires surrounding them who just stood there watching, but she still keeps her glare on Knight.

"How stupid could you possibly be? Picking a fight with someone you know can easily beat you." Amber said conceited. Knight growled in response making Amber slightly happy. She finally struck a nerve with him.

"Wow, such little class you have..."

"At least I have class." Amber finishes off leaving Knight speechless. She could tell he's trying to figure out what to say, but failing miserably. The debate that he's having is clearly written on his face.

"Who do you think you are?!" Knight suddenly blurts at Amber as if that's all that he could come up with.

Probably was.

"I've be told I'm a demon. I've been told I'm an angel..."

"Angel? Please, you're far from it. Whoever said that must have been insane themself. Almost as insane as you are..." Knight cuts her off, but two could play that game.

"What's your problem?! Here we are surrounded by vampires, and now you choose to argue with me!?" Amber shouts still facing Knight. Not once has Amber or Knight taken their glares off each other, even if they are surrounded by their enemies. No matter how curious either of them are.

"I was trying to help you..."

"Oh, and look who's still sour about that," she said sarcastically, rolling her eyes at him.

He's mad... and choosing to argue against me because of that?

"Next time, don't give me something that I don't want, we wouldn't be in this situation if you didn't keep pushing me..."

"Please there won't be a next time, and I fail to see how this is my fault." He replies, eyes suddenly going from dark yellow to dark orange, once you see hints of black his wolf form will come out.

"It's definitely not my fault..."

"You're unbelievable. Now I understand why someone called you a 'demon'!"

"Looks who's talking, I mean look at us. What we are, the creatures we are...we aren't exactly angels. Werewolves have the potential to be just as dark as these stupid vampires surrounding us..."

"Oh, so that's why you're so hard to get along with? Because of your so call dark side." He responds.

"I may be hard to get along with, but you're literally impossible!" Amber exclaimed throwing her hands up in the air.

"Wow, it surprises me how similar you guys are." Tyler spoke up for the first time. Amber and Knight glare over at him, acknowledging him for the first time.

Both looking at each other horrified. They huffed and looked away. "We are nothing alike!" They said simultaneously, both now annoyed at Tyler who mentioned it.

"Yeah, sure." Tyler sarcastically said, rolling his eyes. "Okay okay, as much as I enjoy watching this conversation, I believe we got some business to attend too." Tyler swiftly puts his dagger over Amber's throat. Amber looks over to Knight to see he's restrain as well trying to get out of the vampires grasps.

"So you have two options?" Tyler whispered into her ear, sending thousands of chills down her spine. She knows what he's going to say next.

"You could either come with us or you die...along with your friend over there." Tyler offered gesturing to Knight. Amber looks over to where Knight was, he's doing everything he can to fight back with complete defiance. Several other vampires go to help restrain him, but he was too strong for either of them. In the end, all nine of them had to restrain him finally being able to hold him down.

Man, he can handle nine!?

Knight eyes briefly met hers, something behind those orange eyes made her want to know what he was thinking. It looked as if he was secretly sending her a message.

"I'll go with you," Amber spoke up all the hope in her was lost. Every single person there was taken back. Knight just stood there staring at her. The nine vampires restraining Knight just stood there staring at her.

Out of all the years she never gave herself up...ever.

Tyler's grip loosen on his dagger pulling it a couple centimeters away from her neck. The pressure was finally off. She stomped on his foot and threw her head back making contact with his nose. Tyler immediately backs up, but not wasting a second, Amber grabbed his silver dagger and stabbed Tyler in the leg.

She pulls the dagger out as he jumps back from her. The other nine vampires and Knight tried to wrap their heads around what just happened, but with no success.

"You didn't think I'll give myself up, did you? Come on, you know me better than that." Amber laughed at Tyler as his hand grips his leg where a huge hole was. No blood gushing out.

That's so disturbing, vampires drink blood, but they don't have any themselves.

No wonder their so pale, they look like ghosts at night.

A few seconds later the hole was completely gone. Vampires are definitely at an advantage when it comes to healing.

"What are you guys doing? Don't just stand there, attack them!" The vampires instantly grabbed their daggers and four them ran towards Amber.

Amber focuses on the three in front of her, but even those three are almost too much to bear. She kicks one of them away, but the other two keeps drilling their silver daggers into her arms and legs.

Her legs and arms feel heavy, but she refuses to give up or look down at the blood from her wounds.

The vampire from behind grabs her by the hair dragging her back, but luckily away from the other three. For a couple seconds, Amber was able to do a hand to hand combat with the fourth vampire. She had a few good punches, but because she's already so tired and wounded, he had greater ones.

"Knight, there's too much of them." Amber exclaimed as the other three joined in. At this point she's kicking in everything direction like a mad man, but at the moment she doesn't have anything better.

She was sent flying as one of the vampires grabbed her and threw her like a rag doll, except he threw her forty feet away. Gasping for air, she slowly stands up putting her hands on her head.

The vampire who threw her, ran over to her, getting there in less than a second. He smiles sweetly as he strikes with Tyler's dagger she had earlier but lost when they were all taking turns kicking and stabbing her.

She quickly dodges the blow and started running away from the bigger crowd, but the vampire drags her back.

When she finally felt ready to quit she fought harder. Punching him back and dodging every single blow he threw at her with and without the dagger. Something about wanting to quit made her stronger.

"Wow, very impressive, especially in the condition your in, but do you really think you could beat us? You're just a stupid girl who doesn't know when she's already lost... If you just come with us, we won't kill you." He spat, stomping his foot on hers. She winces in pain, can't believing that someone could stomp their foot so hard.

"You could tell your Headmaster to go to hell where he belongs." Amber scorned. Furious, she slaps the vampire across the face, dodging the one he tried to throw at her.

"Ooh, those are some nasty words that'll be hard to take back, but I'm sure Headmaster will forgive you if you apologize." The vampire said dead serious.

He thinks I'll apologize? I'll tell him face to face when I have another chance to do so.

The vampire suddenly screams turning into dust. She picks up the gold dagger looking over at Knight who was preoccupied with his three opponents. Two of them already gone. Amber starts looking around but no one who could have possibly killed the vampire is in sight.

"What, no thank you?" Knight questioned punching one of his opponents. Ducking from the other two blows.

Shocked, she immediately ducked as the other three vampires came towards her throwing their daggers. Two of them were centimeters away from making its intended target: her head.

One of the daggers did land in her shoulder, but she was able to pull it out before they came. She threw the silver dagger at the vampire on the right. Before the other two could do anything, she threw the gold dagger into a vampire's heart.

One down, two more to go.

She attempts to grab the gold dagger, but one of the vampires stepped on her hand before she could get to it, the other vampire kicked her face sending her flying back a few feet away.

She crawls back up, spitting out blood. The thought of blood spilling all over her body and the taste of it makes her want to vomit.

She grabs the silver dagger she got from her last opponent, and headed towards the vampires. She kicked one of the vampires away from her sending him at least ten feet away. She drilled the silver dagger on the other vampires foot as hard as she could muster. It was so far down, the dagger was stuck in the ground. She grabbed the gold dagger and threw it at the other opponent who was getting ready to strike.

He howls as he disappears, those screams are the last thing you hear from him. She runs to grab the gold dagger and turn around to see the vampire was still trying to free himself.

He struggles and keeps trying, but the dagger doesn't budge. She thinks of all those times she've been stuck as well, having to use her water power as a last resort, then still being stuck after the vampires are gone. It's the worst feeling. She understands what he's going through in this moment.

She slowly walks to him, fully aware his eyes are on hers, fear behind them. "So I guess the upper hand is on the other foot." She says crouching down to his level. He spits into her face. She wipes it away, and slaps him right after.

"Now, I'm going to ask you a favor." She paused, smirking down at him. "Report to your Headmaster that you failed." She said, taking in the look of surprise.

She slowly gets up, getting ready to walk away. Immediately, she felt her vampire side surface taking control over her.

Time to teach him a lesson.

Let him report back that he failed. The Headmaster would punish him anyway.

I'm sorry, I'm in control, not you.

"Well, you not showing up will prove of your failure too. Choices, choices, choices." She smiled wickedly, enjoying the vampire cowarding before her.

Amber felt her werewolf side fighting to surface, she only knows it's a matter of seconds before her werewolf side succeeds. "So here's what I'll do..." She said piercing the dagger into his heart. "You don't deserve the mercy my other half would give you."

Amber stares into the dust, her werewolf side finally surfaced, but it was too late. What shocked her the most was this vampire didn't scream like the other vampires.

Sometimes she even wonders why she feels regret when she kills vampires, their her enemies, but sometimes they remind her of herself.

You know why you feel regret? Because you're weak!

It's not being weak, it's just...I could relate to them.

Almost every vampire here who comes to "kidnap" her are doing it against their will not having a choice in the matter, knowing that if they don't go, the Headmaster would kill them. They don't have the choice, they have to go.

She never has a choice as to whether to fight or not, she has to fight. She doesn't have a choice in being attacked every week, it just happens.

If they didn't attack her, things would be different, at least making choices that could benefit her like teaching herself how to play the violin or play soccer, be on a sports team. She could have fun, do anything, but now she has to stay cautious, making sure she doesn't do anything to draw attention to herself.

"Amber!" Knight calls out to her. For a brief moment, her eyes flashed red as she stares into the person whose eyes reflect her own.
