"Cause I'll never be pretty enough.
They see my tears and call me bluff,"
- Lori Martini, I'm Not Perfect
"Wait, there was homework for science yesterday?" Matilda bugged her eyes at me. I nodded my head slowly, staring away from her and down the hall. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her body swing towards her locker and spin her combination fast. She swung the locker open, a loud bang noise echoing the movements. I rolled my eyes back to her as her eyes remained huge.
"Matty, calm down." I said awaiting for her to crack her neck and stare back at me. Which, in matter of fact, happened seconds later.
Here it comes.
"Do not tell me to calm down. Sorry to ruin your party, Ms. Rebel, but I have a perfect homework grade and I'm not having today be the day that it gets ruined!" She growled before swinging herself back to her locker. Digging through her top shelf, she pulled out her science binder. It was thin, pretty thin compared to mine, and was neat. Something my binders never compared to.
Her eyes fluttered shut and a short sigh left her mouth before she looked up back at me. "Listen, I'm sorry."
"Fully understand cupcake."
"Now, when do you have Science?"
"9th."
Her hand flew out with a smirk placed on her lips, "I said that my homework grade had to be perfect. Never said it wasn't due to cheating."
"Matilda," I whined before grabbing my homework out of my folder, "you even said you would stop cheating a couple months ago."
"But you're like Google. Everyone uses Google, accident or not." She smiled, placing her homework sheet in her binder before stuffing it back into her locker. As she slowly closed her locker with her hip, the morning bell buzzed off. Nodding my head back, Matilda let out a loud sigh. I copied her motions as she swung pass me, giving me a knuckle punch.
"Three hours!" Matilda shouted back to me.
"Three hours." I muttered to myself, praying that they'd rush by.
But of course, they went ever so slowly.

"He's hideous," I whispered towards Matty, who was focusing her full attention towards the boy all the way down the cafeteria. Shaking my head, we sat down at a table next to the windows. The plastic blue chair silently cracked as I sat down in it, scooting it closer to the table.
"What?" Matilda asked while unzipping her lunch bag.
"Benjamin is hideous."
"Oh, you never give anyone a chance." She spat, flicking her hand at me as she unwrapped her sandwich.
I scoffed, "What about you?"
"You talked to me first."
"I asked for help on one equation."
"And you know what would've happened if I didn't help you with that math equation?" She questioned, her attention fully on me for once today. I shook my head as I picked at the food displayed on my ugly red tray.
"To be honest, I don't even care." I muttered, picking up the soft bread to find the hidden ingredients underneath. Meat, cheese, and lettuce sadly looked all outdated and gross. I flared my nostrils at the distaste and flopped the bread carelessly back on to the sandwich. I grabbed the chips from the side and peeled the bag open, popping a chip into my mouth and looked back at Matilda.
Her chair was spun around and her eyes were drowning into the boy all the way on the otherside's face. It seemed as she was taking in every detail just so she could remember the boy, but at the same time she didn't even seem to care about his looks. Or at least that's what she said.
"I don't know how you don't find him attractive." She spoke out of the blue, placing her sandwich back down. Her ponytail flew behind her shoulders as her eyes dagger into mine. My head went slightly back at the face she was giving me. Quite scared of what she was about to do. "That's right, you like Lucas."
"I never, ever, ever said I liked him."
"But you're not denying it." She smirked in remorse as she spun her attention back to dreamer boy.
"He isn't as bad as new boy."
"Uhm," she flipped her hair back as she turned back to me. "Obviously you're blind. Have you lately seen Lucas? His grades are dropping, his eyes are getting colder. I don't trust that kid."
"You don't trust anyone with an average under 90."
"Benjamin has an average of 89.3." She smiled, her eyes closing as she did. I stitched my eyebrows together, giving her a yet frightening look. "He told me."
"Wait, you guys have been talking?" I questioned standing up as she did the same to throw away the 'food' on my tray.
"Starting today, yes. I have to help him since he isn't understanding fractions well."
"Did the teacher ask you or did you volunteered?"
"It's times like this that I wished God sprinkled good taste on to your list of charismatics."
"No, no, no. Don't get God into this." I waved as I spun myself around. As I did, someone bumped into me. Milk going all over my shirt.
"Are you kidding me?" I gasped as I looked up to find Brandon Vince standing over me.
"Use your eyes and watch where you're going." He laughed as he spun himself back around and walked away. I looked up at Matilda who, unfortunately, had a smirk upon her lips.
"And that's an example of pushing God out of the way."
"You are ridiculous." I whispered before standing myself up and walking out of the cafeteria. My hands wiped away at the stain. The stain was beginning to fade, but it was obvious I had been forced to spill something on my shirt such as milk.
My feet suddenly slipped from the ground. Landing on my butt for a second time in the matter of ten seconds was not something I would hope for on a daily bases. Especially having it happen due to jerks such as Brandon Vince and the one and only Lucas Hemmings.
"Sorry," He muttered, his face hidden underneath his hoodie.
"No, it's fine." I replied, standing back up on my feet with my own two hands. You know, since boys don't know what the term gentlemen means in this town.
"Listen, I'm also sorry about yesterday. I was frustrated and pissed off about everything. I didn't mean to take it out on you." He sighed, a small smile at the corner of his lips. I pulled together one of my own, nodding my head in response.
"Are those the only sorry's in life I'm going to get?" I asked, a chuckle coming from both of us.
"I don't know, maybe." He smiled, before walking past me.
With that I was left with a big stain on the front of my shirt and two sorrys.
