"I find my sweet escape
when I'm alone with you."
- 5 Seconds of Summer, Disconnected
"Lucas," the teacher walked his way to my seat as I doodled. His leather shoes squeaked at the floor as he made his way over. "The office wants you."
I let out a sigh while folding up my notebook. The teacher spun himself around and walked back to the board. As I stood up, the other students eyes followed me. I ignored their stares as I left the room. The door behind me let out a soft click indicating it's locking. Yes, automatic locking doors in a school not safe for one soul.
As I stared down the hallway, my eyes trailed from the office door to a girl who didn't look too happy. A huge wet stain marked her grey shirt. It was now almost see through as if you looked close enough you could spot her belly button being shown beneath. I let out a small laugh to myself as I heard her let out a aggravated swear.
Looking down to my beat up converse, I spotted a black mark on the top of the shoe. I questioned myself as I figured out endless possibilities of what it could be. That's until the girl I had analyzed earlier knocked me out of my conclusions and fell right to the floor.
"Sorry," I whispered to her as I watched her face turn even more redder than before. Picking herself up from the ground, she faced me with eyes that looked almost like flames.
"No, it's fine."
And then I found enough courage to say another sorry in the matter of three seconds. Something that was so unlikely, but this girl, Anna I think it was, had a special way of making me feel like air.
"Listen, I'm also sorry about yesterday. I was frustrated and pissed off about everything. I didn't mean to take it out on you." I tugged on the side of my lips, trying to form the best smile I could. But I was obviously failing as she mocked my movements and smiled right back.
"Are those the only sorry's in life I'm going to get?" She chuckled, making me let out a soft laugh as well. I shook my head at the determination she had to get me to talk longer to her. She just couldn't take my sorrys without a tad of sarcasm.
"I don't know, maybe." I smiled. She looked back down at her shirt and to be honest, I was too nervous to push anymore words out of my mouth. So before she could spit out what had happened at lunch, I walked away.
But of course, life had to push her even more into my life.

"Lucas," my mother called from downstairs. I sat down on my sheets, fighting the urge to stay where I was. But the fighting didn't last long, three seconds perhaps, before I walked away from my room and down the stairs where my mother waited.
I rose my eyebrow at her, awaiting for her ot answer my questioning face. She didn't reply until her coffee machine buzzed off and her body flinched at the touch of the handle.
"I need you to go to house 446 on Brench Road and give the family this." She picked up a small basket full of extremely expensive things. I scrunched my nose up in the air as I analyzed the basket.
"How did you afford all that?" I asked, grabbing the handle of the basket from my mother. She pursed her lips as she rose the mug to her mouth.
"It was accidentally delivered here." She answered walking away from the kitchen. I decided to not waste my day away since I was to meet Hunter later tonight so I sped my way out of the house and grabbed my skateboard.
In the matter of ten minutes, I arrived at a light house. Confused, I wasted five more minutes making sure there was no other house on 446 Brench Road. But lucky me, it was the light house.
I opened the front entrance gate and made my way up the tall hill. My body was weak by the time I made it to the front door, or at least what I hoped was the front door. Catching my breath, I took the handle and knocked a few times on the door.
Where Anna showed herself.
"Okay, Buddy, I love that you're in to me and everything, but my house too? You're starting to freak me out." She smiled jokingly. I shook my head at her before handing her the basket.
"It was delivered to my house. Maybe I wouldn't be here if you didn't live on a giant hill and a lighthouse." She grabbed the bag from my hand, placing it on a small table beside the door.
"Well excuse the hell out of me for living in luxury while you live in what... a cabin?" She mocked, moving her eyebrows upward.
"I think a lighthouse beats living in a boat." I nodded my head, lifting my head up to see the huge 'house' before me.
"Listen if you only came here to--"
"Anna, who is that?" A young ladies voice shouted from the background. Anna's eyes went huge as she stood herself back up.
"Just the mailman!" She yelled back, looking at me the whole time. Suddenly the click of heels came closer until an older women appeared next to Anna. Her looks obviously coming from her mother more than her father.
"This isn't John, silly." Her mom giggled as she ruffled up Anna's hair. Anna's face went from soft to pissed in the matter of seconds. Or maybe embarrassment. "What's your name?"
"Lucas," I replied. "but I'm just about to head ho--"
"No no, stay!" Her mom's hand reached for my shoulder, "I'm making roasted chicken."
"No mom," Anna interrupted, shaking her head fiercely. "he has homework and a job to take care of."
"Just help with the homework later." Her mom chuckled, looking back at me. "Come on in."
And that was the first out of millions of death stares I got from detention girl, Anna.
