~Chapter 7~

You drifted numbly in the pool of black to which Flowey had forced you. With limbs useless against the lack of gravity, you were left helpless to your own thoughts. Your eyes sat wide open, as if expecting something to happen. Though you knew nothing would happen. This was your mind. Nothing could touch you here. It was you, and only you.

You seemed to set down on to an invisible ground, allowing you some degree of control. Your clothes had changed, leaving your disguise to the physical realm. Your lab coat and familiar clothes comforted you in your confused state. "Why did Flowey knock me out? Yeah he's an asshole but that was a bit too harsh."

You brushed your hair behind your ear as your thoughts swirled, fingers tapping methodically against your crossed arms. Your legs carried you aimlessly.

Flowey had seemed panicked when you were knocked out. Was he scared? You never set eyes on the approaching monster, but maybe it was someone bad. It makes sense. Flowey wouldn't do that for no reason. You trusted him, at least this version of him. As you wondered you're mindscape, your thoughts drifted.

You wondered about the progress on the experiment back home and pondered whether or not they had given up yet on finding you. Sadly, you knew G!Sans was still hard at work. You felt a wave of guilt swallow you and your heart sank. The darkness seemed to darken even more around you and you sighed.

All I'm good for is causing pain...

A tear shred its way halfway down your face before you wiped it clear.

"No... don't think like that. It doesn't matter anymore. (Y/N) is dead... they'll move on eventually."

"That's isn't a very nice thing to say about oneself." A voice cooed.

You whipped around, heart pounding loudly as you realized your mind wasn't as safe as you'd thought. The shifted darkness wasn't reflecting your mood, it was letting in an intruder.

"G-Gaster.... how did you...."

"I've spent many years milling around the mind of my son. It's become a skill of mine to infiltrate one's mind."

You stumbled back from him. His melted form didn't come any closer, but from his expression you could read he was here for a reason. You had no words.

"Based upon your expression, I can see you know why I'm here."

"I'm not sure why you're here... I thought I was safe here."

He let out a haunting chuckle and you waited. As he settled back into normalcy, his gaze grew serious. "He's driving himself mad looking for you." He said solemnly. "This is causing him much stress."

You averted your gaze and shuffled. "I expected as much. But he'll get over it. They all will. Then they can live the lives they deserve."

He was silent as he examined you. "I see it hurts you just as much as it hurts your friends."

Your laugh was hallow and dead. "My opinion doesn't matter. It's for the better."

"You don't truly believe that, do you?"

The way he said it seemed more like a fact than a question. "I do. I'm an obstacle, just another problem."

He raised a brow, drawing closer to you. His hand rest gently on your shoulder as you stood frozen. "Child, you are in pain."

"I'm fine." You snapped, yanking your shoulder away.

"Why do your torture yourself and your friends so?! You can still return!"

You finally met his eyes, tears burning. "I'm never coming back! Just... forget me! You can't find me! You're best bet is replacing me with someone better."

"Is that why you sent her? The monster who arrived a few days ago?"

You nodded. "Yes, I sent Snowflake. I want her to replace me, or to at least fill some of my gap."

"She never will." His voice was abruptly changed and you turned. The familiar scent of leather and smoke swallowed you. Gaster was gone, leaving the last person you wanted to see.

"You... you're here. Why..." You whispered.

He approached you and rapped his around around you. Your tears finally fell as his name spilled over your lips. "Sans..."

"(Y/N), please tell me you don't really believe it's for the best." He begged, a hoarse tone replacing his usually strong one.

"Sans you need to stop." You said monotone. Your face was turned downwards so he couldn't see your face.

"Stop what?! Because if you're trying to tell me to stop looking for you then you can stop talking!"

"I'm being serious. Just forget me and you'll be so much happier."

He took a step backwards and grabbed your chin, pulling it upwards so you were forced to look at him. You tried to avoid his face but he kept it captive. "Look at me (Y/N)."

You tried to pull your chin free but between his firm grip and arm wrapped around your back you didn't exactly have anywhere to run to. "Why didn't you return after that time reset thing?"

"I didn't return because I wasn't going to make the same mistakes again."

"What mistakes? What are you talking about?!"

"I'm talking about everything that happened. Everything I did. When I died, I finally knew how everything went wrong. It was my fault people died! It was my fault I wasn't strong enough to stand my own against Chara!"

"(Y/N) that doesn't matter anymore. What happened is done. It's over and it'll never happen again."

"How do you know that?! I don't know where Chara's gone but she could very well be milling in my mind without me knowing. The exact same thing happen and I'll regret everything I did just like I do now." You spit. The word were sour on your tongue. It was either bitter truth or sour distaste that tainted you.

"Do you really regret everything? Do you regret meeting everyone and making them happy? Do you regret helping so many people by working with Alphys and I, or taking care of Frisk when Toriel couldn't?.... Do you regret us?"

Your breath hitched. Without meaning to, you locked his gaze. Your heart had lept into your throat, choking your words and leading them to burning tears. "I regret us the most. I robbed you of the life you deserved."

He seemed offended at first, but grew more tender. "If what you did was a mistake, I want you to make it a thousand times more."

The dam holding back your tears broke shattered and you buried your face into him, your hands clutching on to fist fulls of leather. "Please don't make this hard.  I-I can't stand to see you break again."

"How do you think I feel?" He asked sarcastically.

You choked a laugh and wiped away your tears. "I'm.... I'm so sorry Sans. I love you."

You forced yourself away from him and stumbled backwards. He had barely enough time to reach out to you as a column of light blinded both of you.

"(Y/N) wait!"

Your eyes flew open to a white ceiling. Your eyes felt sore and you sat up slowly, a migraine ripping through your head. "Oh god, my head is killing me." You muttered.

Eyes scanning the dimly lit room, you spotted a cup of orange juice along side a few pills. You squinted at small note and lifted it up.

I found you conscious in the snow, ironically with your name. Don't panic. The pills should help you with your head.

You groaned gently and grabbed the pills. Throwing your head back, you downed the medicine with a swig of orange juice. "Psst! Hey! (Y/N) down here!"

You glanced down and spotted a nervous looking Flowey. "Keep you're voice down, my head is killing me."

"And whose fault is that?! You just had to get alcohol!"

"You're the one who was rushing me out! And why did you knock me out?!"

His expression fell slightly before averting his eyes. "If it had been someone dangerous I didn't want a tipsy Snowflake giving anything away. "

You huffed. "Well you could have at least been more gentle, or warned me."

He presented an innocent grin and you pursed your lips. Rolling your eyes, you leaned back into the bed and rested your head against the headboard. "So where are we? Did you figure out who it was that was coming up?"

Flowey crawled up on to the bed and sat in your hands. "Yeah! It was actually the bigger skeleton brother. Papyrus I think. He put you in the spare room."

You nodded. Head still pounding, you set Flowey on the bed next to you and pulled your knees against your chest. Your hands wiped the remains of wet trails from your cheeks as you took a deep breath. "Please don't do it again." You said quietly. "I'm not even alone in my own mind."

Flowey gave you a look of confusion but didn't press it. "I don't know why they keep trying to look for you. It's not hard to forget people. I've seen it happen before."

You laughed in a hallow manner. "I know Flowey. I've met the other you. I'm well aware of Asriel, but he never quite died. He's still living within you, somewhere."

He looked at you in awe. "Really? You've met Asriel?"

You shook you're head. "I've merely heard of you. Frisk was the last person to see you. You had managed to collect the human souls while Asgore was distracted and turned to your god form. However, like every pacifist run, Frisk made it through. He, as always, had the determination to keep going." A snicker fell out of your mouth as a tear fell down your face, "It's selfish to admit that maybe one day I'll get that chance to let someone dead come to light again."

Flowey laughed. "Don't worry! They'll move on and you can let yourself be Snowflake. They'll get their happy ending."

A sharp knock rang at the door and you jumped. Flowey hid in the folds of the your clothes and you looked at the door. "Come in!" you called, hastily wiping your face.

As the door creaked open, a familiar face peered through. A stream of intense light made you wince away as his figure stepped closer. You smiled gently as you looked at him. "Hello G!Paps... please excuse my intrusion."

His skeletal grin greeted you as he sat at the end of the bed. "That's an odd nickname, but I guess it will suffice. How're you doing? When I found you in the snow it wasn't exactly the best way to see you."

You offered a weak smile and chuckled. "Sorry. I guessed I drained my drink too fast. Last I remember is tripping and falling."

"You must be more careful. Especially in the icy weather of Snowdin." He warned.

You threw your legs over the side of the bed and stretched. Flowey moved around your body and tucked himself in your hood, out of sight. "Well, I shouldn't impose longer than I need to. Do know where my bags are by any chance?"

His expression fell and he looked over you. "Well yes, but you should rest more before going anywhere. You don't want to risk anything do you?"

Your hand waved automatically with a polite smile. "Nonsense. I've always been known to recover quickly. I'll just take my things and get out of your way."

He sighed and stood, offering you a hand. "I swear. You are as stubborn as my brother."

A gentle blush brushed your cheeks as you snickered. "I do tend to be that way."

You pushed open the bedroom door and walked down the stairs, turning to him as he met you there. "Where are my bags again? I should be getting back soon."

"Oh yes! Pardon my scatter brain. My father and I were just speaking is all. They're on the table."

"Thank you."

You turned and collected your things, Flowey slipping into a bag unnoticed. As you turned back to G!Papyrus again, you offered a bow. Before you could offer another thanks in Snowflake style, the door swung open to reveal to new people. The only other human in the underground was supporting a passed out G!Sans. Or at least he was only partially aware of his surroundings. You dropped your bags and ran to lend a hand, but recoiled when his eyes opened. Almost immediately, his eyes locked on you with a sense of cold loathing. He stood straight and brushed himself off, alarming both Frisk and G!Papyrus. "I'm fine." He snarled. "Just talking to dad."

He shoved past you and you watched after him as he marched upstairs.

Sans...

G!Papyrus looked at you apologetically. "I'm sorry Snowflake. He's been in a foul mood recently. He's lost someone and we haven't been able to find her. Please bare with us. He isn't nearly as bad as he seems."

"I know..." You muttered. "I mean, of course he isn't! I understand why he would be upset. If I lost someone I loved I'd be upset. In a way, I'm lucky that way. I don't have many close friends anymore."

Scooping up your bags, you nodded in G!Papyrus's direction and smiled at Frisk. "Have a nice evening."

Before either could say anything, you rushed away, closing the door behind you via magic tail. You rushed to the river, hood pulled up to hide your face from the world. Many monsters stopped and stared at you, being the new star of the Underground, but you wanted nothing more than to be alone.

P.o.V. G!Sans
It was just my luck to resurface in front of the new monster, the one that (Y/N) had sent. But even if she meant well in doing so, I couldn't help the way I loathed her. I could sense (Y/N) on her, and it made me mad. To have her close, but yet no where in sight, it was driving me crazy.

I pushed past her and I could sense the hurt she felt. I barely processed the words she spoke as she rushed away.

"I'm sorry (Y/N), but I know you're not gone. I won't stop looking, even if it's the last thing I do..."
