Chapter 23
The dropship landed in the hangar as Charles ran towards the command center. "This wouldn't have happened if I didn't snap at her. I'm sorry Charles." The Rider apologized.
"It's all in the past bud, but for now we need to find her." Charles replied as he slid on the ground and turned a corner, nearly tumbling over Mei.
"Charlie?" She asked. "Hey Mei, I'm going to the command center." Charles said turning and running down the hallway. As he entered, Julie, David, Jack, Ana, and Winston scurried about.
"What do you need me to do?" Charles asked. "Good, you're here. Right now, we just need to find out where Talon took her." Jack said.
"Athena, bring up an overview of the Doctor's residence. All the way from this morning to now." Charles said walking to a console.
"Charles, we've got this, go relax. We'll call you when we need you." Jack said pushing Charles towards the door.
"No!" Charles growled, shoving the man off. "She's in trouble, because of, because of me. And I will be damned if you try to stop me." Charles threatened him. He shoved passed Jack and walked back to the console as he studied the holo screen. Julie looked at David as he sighed.
"Son, let us help." He said placing a hand on his shoulder. "No, this is my job alone. I, I shouldn't have yelled at her." Charles said as tears began to form, they cascaded down his cheeks and zipped through the hologram as they made little puddles on the console. He slammed his fist on the table, making the group jump.
"Why would you take the fall for me?" The Rider asked. 'Because, they would only hate you more. You've done so much good for the group. I don't want that trust to be shattered.' He informed him. The Rider sighed before going dormant. Charles wiped the tears away as he went through the surveillance. He stopped when a ship that resembled the ship from Mondatta's speech appeared.
"Gotcha." He said. "Athena, scan that ship and track where it's last location when." "Understood sir." The AI replied. Charles sat there until his phone began to ring.
"I gotta take this." He said walking out of the room. "I wonder who that is." Julie wondered. "Probably the vigilante Arsenal. They met before and now have some kind of relationship with each other." Ana informed her.
"Arsenal..." Julie said before walking after her son. She walked out and noticed Charles a few feet away. She hid behind a pillar and began to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Hello? Oh hey Aaron, whatcha need?" Charles asked. "I am nearing the end of my vigilante days. I thought it'd be best to reconsider your offer to join Overwatch." Aaron replied.
'Why does the name 'Aaron' seem familiar?' Julie wondered. "I'm glad you decided to rethink on that Aaron, I was afraid you'd try to hash it out on your own. Then again, your thick skull has proven to get you into situations you can't possibly get out of." Charles said with a grin.
"Shut it bonehead, anyways I just wanted to let you know I'm doing a raid because I've gotten word of a deal from the Black Badge. I wanted you to let your AI to find out about the client." Arsenal said.
"Yeah, I'll get on that. Just give me the coordinates and I'll have Athena bring an overview of it." Charles said running to a nearby terminal.
"Athena, could you bring an overview of these coordinates?" Charles asked. "Certainly, and I've began to track where the Talon ship flew off to with Angela." Athena reported.
"Good, we'll just need to send the overview to Arsenal for his attack." Charles said. "Oh my." The AI said.
"What is it Athena?" "The client is Talon." The AI replied. "Damn, Arsenal, cancel your attack! Talon, Talon is the client!" Charles said. The background noise of the phone had sounds of gunfire.
"I've noticed! Want to help?" Aaron shouted. "Athena, prep a dropship. The Arsenal needs some back up." Charles said.
"Dropship already ready." Athena reported. Charles ran off towards the hangar as Julie followed him.
'Why does 'Aaron' seem familiar? Perhaps if I follow Charlie, I'll get some answers.' Julie thought.
'Your mother is right behind us.' The Rider informed Charles. "Well the more the merrier, hurry up Snow!" Charles shouted to his mother.
"I'm right behind you Ghost." Julie said as the two boarded and the ship flew off. "Okay, so we know the client from the Black Badge is Talon, but what could they be buying?" Charles wondered. As the ship circled the firefight, Arsenal could be seen firing at groups of operatives.
"Snow, you drop down and provide cover fire so Arsenal could have some respite." Ghost said. "What about you?" Snow asked. The darkness of the area provided cover as the ramp opened and Charles ran and jumped off as the power of the Rider surged through.
"Who's ready for a can of whoop ass?" Charles asked as he pulled off his chain and twirled it around. The operatives hesitated before regaining their senses and firing at him. Charles turned and twirled his chain as he imbuded his Hellfire into the chain, making it move faster to block the bullets.
"Glad you could show up Bonehead!" Arsenal shouted as he reloaded his weapon. Snow dropped down in front of Arsenal as she fired icicles into a couple of flanking operatives. Arsenal stopped firing and stared at her.
"YOU!" He shouted aiming his weapon at Snow. "Wait! Arsenal!" Charles yelled before Arsenal aimed his rifle at Snow and fired a torrent of flame. Charles ran forward and absorbed the flames. Arsenal stopped before tossing a few grenades at some advancing operatives.
"You better give me one good reason I shouldn't blow this bitch off the face of the earth." He growled as he glared at Snow.
"Well she's my backup, now you two make up and help with defending against this attack. Keep fighting!" Charles shouted. He glanced around and noticed a double barreled pistol.
"You don't mind do ya?" Charles asked. "Be my guest." Aaron replied. Charles picked up the weapon as Hellfire imbuded itself into the weapon.
"Uh, you sure that won't ruin my weapon?" Arsenal asked as the fiery weapon glowed in his hands.
"Perfectly fine." Charles said as he vaulted over the barrier and aimed the pistol at an incoming operative. His bony finger pulled the trigger as a blast of metal and fire blew the man away.
"Holy shit!" Arsenal and Charles said. "I'm keeping this." Charles said aiming at another and firing away.
"C'mon!" Snow shouted as she fired icicle after icicle at the operatives. A few operatives were able to restrain the ice elemental.
"Haha, it's good to see you again, Agent Snow." Reaper growled. "Let go of me!" Snow shouted as she struggled against at the operatives' grips. Charles turned to see the operatives dragging Snow towards a waiting ship.
"NO!" Charles shouted as he dashed his way towards the operatives taking his mother. He summoned a fireball and threw it at one operative. He took aim at another and fired the pistol at is shredded through two more.
"You, are not taking my mother." Charles growled as he grabbed Reaper and tossed him to the side. Snow jumped behind her two captors and froze their faces, killing them instantly.
"You don't understand. Agent Snow and Fire hold the sequence to the liquid for Project Avatar." Reaper said as he stood up.
"You don't understand what I've said, Reyes, You. Are. Not. Taking. My Mother. Ever Again." Charles said as he grabbed the Reaper's throat and choked him. Arsenal finished off the rest of the operatives before noticing Charles and Reaper.
"Charles!" Arsenal shouted. The Rider snapped his bonehead to glare at Aaron. "Charlie, I know I'll sound mad for saying this, but let him go. Revenge is not worth it." Arsenal said holstering his weapon.
"You don't know anything, you don't know what it's like to grow up with out parents. To live with someone you barely knew except for what she said your parents have said. I have live forever without knowing about my parents. Overwatch kept them a secret instead of telling us about them." Charles growled. Arsenal walked over to him and placed his hand on his shoulder.
"You're right, I don't know what it was like to live your life. But you must not let your anger cloud your judgement. I found out that after you arrived that one night." Arsenal said. Charles glared at Reaper before tossing him back. Reaper coughed before sighing in relief.
"You, will never do this again." Charles growled at him. Reaper stood up and ran to the waiting ship as it lifted and flew away.
"You did the right thing Charles." Arsenal said as the Rider disappeared and Charles reappeared.
"Thank you, Aaron." Charles said smiling at him. "Aaron, you remind me of someone." Julie said walking over to them.
"Yeah, I know about you. How you almost killed me and my squad in the forest." Arsenal said. "Aaron, Manhattan!" Julie said snapping her fingers.
"I remember you, you, Commander Lawson, Barnes, Grief, and Apollo! The Unit!" Julie said with a smile.
"Yeah, but not anymore." Aaron said with a frown. Julie watched as he walked over to a crate that seemed to be what Black Badge had intented on selling to Talon. Julie and Charles walked over as Arsenal opened the crate to reveal a piece of tech he was all too familiar with.
"What is it?" Charles asked. "The Digi-Struct, created by Archtype to help 3rd world countries. Vishkar tried to buy it to sell disposable weapons but it back fired on them. I guess Vishkar ended up stealing to use it's technology to create the weapons." Arsenal said grabbing a weapon.
"So what does it do?" Julie asked. "Let me show you." Arsenal said aiming at the ground and firing off a few rounds. He tossed the weapon at a couple of crates before it exploded. A new one appeared in his hands.
"So, like the Borderlands weapons." Charles said. Arsenal looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "What? I hang out with D. Va. Sue me." Charles retorted.
"Whatever, we must not let Talon get their hands on this." Arsenal said placed the lid back on and dragging it towards the ship. Charles noticed something on a fallen operative and knelt down. He grabbed it and activated the message.
"I'll remind you, Reaper, that the recovery of the technology from Archtype is mandatory. It will help with the going of Project Avatar. We just need to break the Doctor more to find out the sequence. But if Agent Snow is going to be there, do whatever means necessary to capture her." A man said.
"Project Avatar?" Charles wondered. He stood up and walked over to Arsenal as he told him his findings.
"Avatar? Oh I know it all too well. It was the project that created you and Fire. According to Agent David, the serum made test subjects go mad. That is why they used brainwashing to control them." Arsenal said pulling out his phone.
"Who you calling?" "A few friends." Aaron said. He dialed up a number and placed it on speaker. "Hello? Who is this, how did you get this number?" A gruff man demanded.
"Lawson, it's Manhattan. We need to bring the Unit back." Arsenal said. "Aaron? It's been too long soldier. I don't think we can bring the Unit back. Everyone has dispersed since the fall of Overwatch." Lawson said.
"Commander Lawson, this is Agent Charles Williams. You may not remember me, but I do remember the day you saved me, my sister, and the agents from certain death." Charles said.
"Heh, the shy Williams boy. It's been too long child, what can I do for ya?" He asked. "Try your best to get the Unit back, we're going to need them. Project Avatar is back in business." Charles said.

"I'm not going to ask again, give me the recipe for the serum and I won't torture you anymore." A scientist said to a chained Angela.
"I would rather die, than let you have the serum." Angela retorted weakly. "Tsk, tsk, my, my, dear doctor, that wasn't the answer I was looking for." The scientist said as Widowmaker walked over to her with a cattle prod and shocked her. Angela's cries of pain sounded throughout the building, making operatives cringe at the screams. Sombra gripped her hand in a fist.
"Ay yai, I did not sign up for this kind of stuff." Sombra said feeling pity for the doctor. Angela glared at Widowmaker before looking to the ground.
"No one will save you, Ziegler, not even your precious Rider." She said with a smirk. "I don't believe you, he'll come for me, I know he will!" Angela shouted.
"No, he won't." The assassin said stabbing her leg. "Ah!" Angela moaned in pain. Widowmaker twisted the blade in her leg, savoring the screams of the Doctor.
"Ah, I feel more alive." She said with a grin. "No, you were alive Amelie, before Talon corrupted you." Angela said before passing out. Widowmaker stared at the sleeping figure of Angela before snapping her fingers.
"You two, heal her wounds then bring her back when she awakens." Widowmaker said. Two operatives walked in and grabbed the wounded Doctor and brought her to the medical bay.
"She will break, I know she will." The assassin said. "One way, or another."
