Chapter 34
A/n: A quick one then the start of the story, a few of you seemed to be confused in the 32nd chapter, when Reaper said 'They were my kids.' I meant it as figuratively speaking, he was sort of the other father figure to Charles and Jennie. Doesn't mean he is the father. All good? Okay, now on with the story.
~Talon HQ~
"Get the troops and our warriors into the ships." Widowmaker ordered. "Yes ma'am." A grunt said turning on the intercom.
"All operatives, report to the hangar bay, on the double." He said. "We'll defeat Overwatch for good. Isn't that what you wanted, Gabriel?" Widowmaker asked.
"Pfft, fine." Reaper said appearing from the shadows. Sombra appeared next to the two and smiled.
"What's got you all happy?" Widowmaker asked. "Just taking out Overwatch, and getting my hands on that AI of theirs." Sombra replied.
"Fine, let's move." The assassin said as she strutted out of the room, leaving Sombra and Reaper.
"Why don't you want to attack Overwatch? Is it those two?" Sombra asked. "If you're referring to the Williams kids, then yes." He replied. Sombra sighed as she patted his arm.
"I'll try my best to make sure they don't get hurt. Mostly the girl, since I know the boy can defend himself pretty well." Sombra said.
"Yeah, but how do we do this without Widow figuring it out?" He asked. "I'll think of something, for now, just follow her lead." She replied before leaving. Reaper sighed as he pulled out a picture from his pocket. It revealed him, Charles, and Jennie smiling as David and Julie stood behind the three, laughing along.
'How do I do this?' He wondered before returning the picture in his pocket and walking out the door.
~Watchpoint~
"Hey Winston, I remembered before the fall, there were a lot of other points throughout the world. Have you ever wanted to activate one of them?" Charles asked.
"I really haven't thought about that. I'll bring it up with Ana and Jack. Thanks Charlie." Winston said making a mental note. Charles smiled as he walked to his room. Opening the door, he noticed Angela sitting on the chair, asleep, with a book in her hands. He smiled as he walked over to her and grabbed the book, placing it on the table. With the gentleness of a tap, he swept the sleeping Angel off the chair and walked to the bed, placing her down gently. He removed her headband as her blonde hair fell down, the locks covering her ears. Her gentle snores made him sigh with happiness. He turned before feeling a hand grab his arm.
"Mmmm, come to bed." She whined, pulling him down. "Heh, like I have a choice." He said laying down, snuggling close to her. She placed her head on his chest as she yawned. He sighed before the intercom blared, forcing the two to shoot up.
"WHAT THE!?" Angela shouted, now fully awake. "Warning, Talon ships have been spotted approaching the Watchpoint, initiate defense protocol." Athena said.
"Talon? Coming here?" Angela asked jumping up and grabbing her gear. Charles stood up as Anger of Fire appeared on his back.
'I sense Reaper, Widowmaker, and others on the ships. Including the elementals.' The Rider said.
"Alright, let's get this party started." Charles said as he followed Angela outside. The agents stared in the sky as 4 Talon ships flew and created a perimeter, landing as dozens of agents and elementals surrounded them. Charles looked to the sky as the area around them darkened. Reaper, Widowmaker, and Sombra walked out and smirked at them.
"Look what we have here. A lot of criminals." Widowmaker said. Reaper glanced at Jack before looking back at Charles. He saw Jennie near McCree as the cowboy had his revolver in his hand.
"All we want is for you to not be around and you can keep your lives. Can you do that?" Reaper asked.
"Wot, and let you lot run around, terrorizing this world?" Lena spat. "Tsk, tsk, no Cherie, we would preserve this world from the likes of you." Widowmaker replied.
"You're the one who tried to assassinate Mondatta, snake!" Lena growled. Jack raised a hand in front of her before turning to the three.
"What is it you want?" He asked. "You're destruction." Widow's simple reply. With a snap of her fingers, the operatives and elementals charged forward. Genji threw shurikens as Reinhardt slammed his hammer, knocking a few operatives down. Mei fired icicles as the rest fended off from the attack. Charles unsheathed his blade as he charged forward and slashed anyone in his way.
"You ingrates, not knowing when to give up. Turning innocent people into something they are not, messing with powers not meant for mortals. You've crossed the line, now, burn." Charles said dashing forward and attacking Widowmaker.
"Merde." She cursed as she dodged his slash. "So, you've been practicing I see." Charles said smirking.
"Hehehe, just for this moment." Widowmaker said aiming down her gun and firing off potshots at him. Dodging the shots, Charles ran forward and vaulted over the sniper and sliced her the tip of her hair.
"Oh? You'll pay for that!" She shouted, dropping her weapon and charging forward. "If it's a fight you want, a fight you'll get." He replied, sheathing his weapon and raising his fists. He blocked her fist and kicked her stomach, causing her to skid backwards. She ran forward and managed to land a hit on his cheek. Charles gritted his teeth as the assassin smirked and urged him forward.
"Where's that demon? Can he come out to play?" She asked blocking his swings. "Nah, he doesn't deal with weaklings like you." Charles replied.
"Oh then he's missing out." Widowmaker said kicking Charles back. She ran forward and slammed her heel onto his neck.
"Any last words?" She asked. Before his could say anything, Widowmaker was thrown back. Dazed and confused, he glanced up to see Reaper as he lowered his foot.
"The plan was to force them into exile, never to kill them." He growled walking over Charles. "Ugh, what are you doing Reyes?" Widowmaker demanded before he grabbed her throat and lifted her in the air.
"You lay a hand on him or the girl, I'll deal with you personally, Amelie." Reaper said before dropping her. Widowmaker glared at him before grabbing her weapon and leaving. Charles crawled to the wall as he lifted himself up.
"Guess I still need to practice. What are you going to do, finish what she started?" Charles asked.
"No, I want you to stay out of the fight." Reaper said kneeling in front of him. "Heh, fat chance. I'm not going to let you harass the innocents of this world." Charles said struggling to his feet. Reaper placed a hand on his shoulder, forcing him to sit.
"Do it, Charlie." He ordered. "How do you know me?" Charles asked. Reaper sighed and removed his mask, revealing the scarred face of Gabriel Reyes.
"U-uncle Gabriel?" He asked. Gabriel stared into his eyes as he leaned forward and kissed his forehead.
"I'm sorry Charlie." He said before knocking him out cold. A tear fell down his face as he stood back up and placed his mask on. He grabbed Charles unconscious body and placed him in a locker, big enough for him. Closing the door, he placed his mask on as he rejoined the fight. He noticed many agents and operatives strewn across the battle, elementals and operatives alike. He scanned the area to see Sombra hacking, then attack Dva. Widowmaker fired at Tracer as the agent blinked back and forth, throwing off her aim. Reaper stood as he watched Jack and Ana take out operatives and a few elementals.
"Heh, looks like those elementals aren't so tough like we thought." Jack said. "Don't underestimate them, don't forget about the one that stole the Gauntlet!" Ana snapped. Jack turned as another earth elemental charged in before being shot with Ana's sleep dart. Jack turned and fired a few rounds in the man's skull.
"Even though they were civilians, there is no saving them." Jack said. "Look what happened with David and Julie, they were able to fight the programming." Ana said.
"Yeah, but they had to have an emotional break through, we don't know who these people are or were." Jack replied. Ana sighed before hearing a crunching sound. The two turned to see Reaper walking up to them.
"Morrison, Amari." Reaper said. "Gabriel." Jack said. Reyes pulled out his shotguns and aimed them at Jack.
"It's time to finish, what I started." Reaper said pulling the triggers of his Hellfire shotguns. The shrapnel of the bullets flying through the air.
"Get down!" Jack shouted, tackling Ana to the ground. The two stood up as Reaper turned, still firing away.
"Ana, get out of here!" He ordered. "No, we're in this together!" She retorted. "I don't have time for this, get out and stay gone! Save the others!" Jack shouted. He grabbed her shoulders and tossed her to the entrance before turning and tackled the shadowy man.
"Jack!" Ana shouted. "GO!" Was all she heard before the door closed and locked. "Ms. Amari, the agents need your help!" Athena said. Ana stared at the door before gritting her teeth.
"Jack's a tough one, he'll finish him and return." Ana said as she turned and ran towards the sound of fighting.
~Charles~
'Aww, what was that?' Charles wondered. 'If you're done, the agents need our help!' The Rider scolded. Charles opened his eyes to see the door of the locker.
"C-cheap shot, Rea-" He stopped, remembering the face of Gabriel behind the mask. He looked to the floor as memories of him, Jennie, and Gabriel surfaced.
~Flashback~
"Hey kid." Gabriel said elbowing Charles. The young boy glanced up to see Gabriel looking right, then left before handing him two bags of sweets.
"Shhh, don't let Ana know. She's always the one to give out candy." He said smiling at Charles. "Thanks Uncle Gabby!" Charles said hugging him.
"Hehe, you're welcome kiddo." He said holding him. Gabriel frowned as he held Charles close and sighed.
'To have lost your parents, at such a young age. I promise to protect you, as if you were my own flesh and blood.' He thought before releasing Charles so the boy could run to Fareeha and Jennie. Jack and Ana walked over as the woman glared at him walked around him.
"What's up Amari?" He asked crossing his arms. "You didn't give Charlie and sweets now, did you?" She asked narrowing her eyes. Jack giggled before leaving the two.
"You know that's my thing, right." Ana said. Gabriel exhaled as he placed his arms behind his head and whistled as he walked away.
"Hey, I'm talking to you! GABRIEL!" Ana shouted. Fareeha, Charles, and Jennie stood behind a corner and giggled. Charles turned as he produced the bag of sweets from Gabriel and shared them among the two.
"Man, Uncle Gabriel is the best!" Charles said as Reyes walked past the three. He smiled at them before leaving for his quarters.
~End Flashback~
'Man, Uncle Gabriel is the best!' He remembered. 'Why are you doing this?' Charles wondered. Shaking off the memory, he turned and kicked the locker door open. Falling out, he glanced up to see Talon operatives looking at him.
"Hi there." He said before the Rider came forth. The flames covered his skin as all that remained was bone. Anger of Fire appeared on his back as he unsheathed the blade, Hellfire igniting on the blade. He turned, dashing forward and slicing the them in the waist.
'I've gotta get to the others!' He said running out of the room. He entered the main courtyard to see the surviving and injured agents surrounded by the operatives and elementals. Charles growled as he charged forward and roared, shaking some of the operatives.
"Ah, the mighty Rider shows his face." A voice spoke. Charles turned to see Acid walking over and smirking at him.
"While you were off doing God knows what, we were just having fun with these toys!" He said motioning to the agents. Charles continued to glare at him as Hellfire crackled.
"What? Not at all talkative? We can change that!" Acid said grabbing Jennie by the hair and raising a hand as it started to melt but kept it's shape. Charles shifted in his spot before Jennie cried out.
"DON'T! He'll kill us anyway." She said. "I can't just sit here." Charles replied. Acid smirked as he hovered his hand near her face, acid dripping onto the ground.
"LEAVE HER ALONE YOU PRICK!" Lena shouted. "Drop the girl, and you'll see how talkative I can be." Charles said.
"Heh, you're funeral kid." Acid replied, throwing Jennie to the ground and dashing forward. Charles readied the blade as he sliced Acid's arm off, only for it to regrow.
"Good luck killing me!" Acid taunted. Charles growled as he step sided him and slashed his back.
"Ah, lucky shot!" He growled. Charles rolled out of the way before his foot hit a canister. Glancing down, he noticed a can of liquid nitrogen.
'You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?' Charles asked. 'We're in the same body, how can I not?' The Rider replied sarcastically.
"You still there? Cuz here I come!" Acid shouted as he charged forward. Charles stepsided and tripped the elemental before stabbing his Hellfire-imbuded blade into his hand. Acid struggled as Charles snatched the nitrogen and walked over to him.
"Let's see how acid works with freezing temperature." Charles said pouring the liquid onto his body. Acid screamed as the liquid touched his body, freezing him in place. After a few minutes, a thin layer of ice covered the Talon warrior. Charles grasped the hilt of the blade and yanked it out of his hand. He lifted the blade and slashed across the frozen man's chest, shattering him into pieces. He turned to see the operatives back off in fear.
"I am destruction, I am vengeance, I AM DAMOCLES!" The Rider roared. The operatives released the agents as they turned and fled. Charles walked past the agents as he lifted his hand and thrusted forward, a wave of fire chasing down the operatives before engulfing them. He walked towards the patches of fire as a burnt operative struggled to leave.
"Please, have mercy!" He begged. Charles sheathed his blade before grabbing the man's shoulder and looking him.
"Mercy? Heh, all outta mercy." He said as the man burned into flames. Charles turned as the agents stared at him.
"Athena, what did Acid mean by 'presents'?" Charles asked. "From my scans, I see bombs in key locations, all set on a time. By the time I can calculate them, it'll be too late." Athena replied.
"Damn, alright, round up any survivors and have them meet up in the hangar bay." Charles ordered. He turned to the agents as they looked at him.
"Everyone, head the hangar bay now. I'll call in for airsupport." He said. They nodded as they took off. Lena blinked next to Charles and looked at him.
"Stay safe luv, keep him safe." She said before blinking away. The Hellfire dissipated as his skin began to regrow. He turned and headed towards the command center.
'Please be intact!' He hoped. Kicking down the door, he saw three operatives standing there. He rolled and grabbed a pistol, firing a bullet into each of their legs before summoning the sword and slashing their throats. He sheathed his sword and tossed the weapon away as he pulled up a dial pad. He scrolled through the contact list until he came across Lawson. Pressing the call button, it began to ring.
"Hello?" Lawson answered. "Commander Lawson, this is Charles. We need an evac now!" He replied.
"What's going on?" A voice asked in the background. "Talon has launched an attack on us, we need an immediate evacuation for our wounded. So far, Jack is missing." Charles said.
"I see, you've got 5 minutes before they arrive. Can you hold out that long?" Lawson asked. "We can try, but please hurry." Charles said before ending the call.
"You hear that?" "Must be survivors?" "Let's round them up!" Voices spoke. Charles grabbed a fallen operatives rifle and aimed at the entrance. The door opened as Charles pulled the trigger, a torrent of bullets flying through and cutting them down. He sighed and tossed the rifle down as he took off to the hangar.
~Lawson~
After the call ended, Lawson summoned the Unit. "You called us sir?" Barnes asked. "Yes, to tell you that Overwatch is in trouble. A couple of minutes ago, Charles informed me a not so long ago. I need you four to grab a large plane and rescue as many as you can." Lawson said.
"What?" Aaron asked. "ON THE DOUBLE, NOW!" Lawson shouted. The Unit nodded as they turned and left for the hangar.
'Please be in time.' Lawson prayed.
~Watchpoint~
Charles and the rest of the agents huddled into the corner as Reinhardt held his shield up. Bastion provided some respite as Orsia fired a shield to cover them as Reinhardt's shield recharged. Torbjorn's turret fired nonstop at the operatives.
"Where's that evac?" Lena asked. "On it's way, just a little longer." Charles replied as he fired an assault rifle at them.
"I don't think we can hold out for this long." Symmetra said as she summoned more turrets. "My cells are beginning to deplete, I'll need to recharge soon." Orisa said.
'Hurry up please.' Charles begged. After a few minutes, a ship could be heard. "What's that? Talon reinforcements?" Torbjorn asked.
"Oh God I hope not." Lena said. The ship hovered on the ground as the ramp opened to reveal the Unit. Barnes and Aaron stood by the entrance as they provided cover fire. Atticus and Apollo charged forward, tossing grenades as Apollo placed on brass knuckles and punched away.
"HURRY!" Barnes shouted. The agents carried their wounded onto the dropship as Atticus and Apollo backed off, allowing the rest to enter. Charles fired his rifle before glancing behind them to see Jack fighting his way through the operatives and elementals.
"JACK!" Charles shouted. He unsheathed his blade, dashing forward and slicing through the grunts and any elemental that stood in his way. He looked to see Jack bloodied, his mask gone, and fresh blood seeping out of his scar.
"C'MON YOU BASTARDS! SHOW ME WHAT YOU CAN DO!" Jack roared. He wadded through the masses before reaching Charles.
"Charlie! You need to go!" He said. "Not without you!" Charles retorted. Jack smirked before sighing.
"Kid, you need to live. I've run my course here. Just promise me this, you'll keep them safe." Jack said.
"I promise, but you're coming too. I can't lose you!" Charles begged. Jack tossed his rifle on the ground as he breathed heavily.
"You, are the new commander. Now get going, leader." Jack said pushing him back. With fire in his eyes, Jack grinned as he roared in defiance, making some grunts back off. He puled out a knife and began killing any operative that stood in his way.
"Charles, let's move!" Aaron shouted above the gunfire. Charles turned and ran to the ship. As the ship began to ascend, Charles turned to see Jack surround.
"We need to turn back!" He ordered. "Can't do that, the flak is too much! We need to leave." Barnes replied.
"No, JACK!" Charles shouted as he witnessed Jack being shot multiple times before he fell dead. His body now a cold carcass. The ship turned an left as the Talon ships picked up the rest of the troops and leaving, the base exploding.
"Did you get Athena out?" Charles asked. "Right here." Winston replied, holding up an AI chip. "Where are other Watchpoints?" He replied.
"So they won't find us, I suggest Ecopoint Antarctica." Winston said. "Good, now let's head to Lawson's base for respite. Then we regroup." Charles said.
"Yes sir." Ana said. "Sir?" Lena asked. Charles stood by the window as tears fell down his face. "Jack, he's dead." He replied.
"John? No, he can't be." Reinhardt said. "I'm sorry Reinhardt, but he died in battle. A very honourable last stand." Charles said.
"I'm sorry." Aaron said placing a hand on his shoulder. Lena blinked over to him and hugged him close.
"He's still with us, right here." Angela said placing a hand over Charles's chest hugged him. "Let's honor his memory by destroy Talon, once and for all." Ana said.
"For Jack." Charles said. "FOR JACK!" The agents shouted.
