Chapter 35

~Talon HQ~

"What are the casualties?" A man asked. Widowmaker gulped before sighing. "We lost at least 60 grunts, and 15 elemental warriors, especially Agent Acid." She reported. The man sighed before clearing his throat.

"That's, unfortunate. But, I have faith you at least got rid of Overwatch?" He asked. "We managed to drive them off of their Watchpoint and destroying it. The only Overwatch casualty we know of, is one Soldier 76, A.K.A. John 'Jack' Morrison." She replied.

"We at least cut off the head of the snake. Good job, but we'll need to speak with you, Reaper." He said as the assassin made her exit. Reaper walked forward as the man turned in his chair.

"Do you believe what Widowmaker said was true about your actions? Did you attack a fellow operative to save an agent?" He asked.

"Yes." Was Reaper's reply. The man sighed as he stood up and walked over to him. "I can tell, 'Gabriel Reyes' is still alive, isn't he?" The man asked.

"Yes." Reaper said. "You must forget him if you want Talon to be in control." "I can't, two of the agents make me not want to complete the mission." Reyes said. The man sighed as he walked back to his desk.

"I'll have to ban you from further missions until you are ready. Go, relax for now." He said. Reaper nodded as he turned and left for his room. As he entered, he frowned under his mask as he replayed the words for yesterday.

'U-uncle Gabriel?' He slammed the door and ripped his mask off, throwing it to the floor. "I'm sorry, Charlie." He said as tears began streaking down his cheeks. "I'm so sorry, for everything I put you through, me ending up the villain when my own anger was with the one who gave his life to protect you all. I'm a terrible person, I don't deserve your pity nor do I deserve any forgiveness. I broke that when I let my anger get the better of me." He said sitting on his bed. He dug through the nightstand until he brought out a small bag of sweets.

'Hey kid, don't say anything.' He remembered. Opening the bag, he grabbed one and popped it into his mouth.

"Don't say anything." Gabriel said as he laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

~Charles~

As the ship landed in the base, everyone had disembarked to head to the infirmary. Angela was behind them before stopping to glance back at the ship to see Charles still sitting, he hands on his heads. Jennie, Lena, and Aaron stood next to him as Lena spoke.

"Dr. Ziegler, we need you!" A medic said, causing the agent to turn and nod. She followed them as the picture of Charles on the plane burned into her mind.

"Charlie, his death was never your fault." Lena said, trying to calm the crying man. "I-I tried, b-but I wasn't fast enough." He sobbed.

"He chose to defend with his last breath to give us a fighting chance Charlie. Even Ana couldn't budge the stubborn man. Now, we honor him by defeating Talon and restoring Overwatch to it's former glory." Jennie said.

"I agree, c'mon man. Let's get some lunch." Aaron said. "F-fine." Charles replied as he stood up shakily.

"There we go, easy steps." Lena said. As the four made it to the lunchroom, everyone stared at them.

"Wot? You want a picture, it'll last longer!" Lena growled. causing them to turn back to their meals. Jennie and Charles sat down as Aaron and Lena grabbed their food.

"Here, eat." Aaron said placing a tray in front of him. Charles grabbed the fork as he stabbed the food and began to eat.

"There ya go love, just eat and go lay down. It's been a helluva week." Lena said. Charles finished his food as he returned the tray to the sink and began leaving the mess.

'He's the one!' 'Shhh, he'll hear us!' 'You heard what happened at the Gibraltar Watchpoint?' 'Yeah, it was destroyed when they were trying to reform.' The people whispered. Charles gritted his teeth as he walked out of the mess hall and entered his assigned room.

"It's not much, but it's something." Aaron said from the doorway. "It's good man, I just need sometime before I can take up the mantle he passed down." Charles replied.

"We're here for you Charlie." Aaron said as he turned and left. Charles closed the door and turned as he walked to his bed. He laid on the bed as he faced to the ceiling.

"How? How can I fill the boots you left me? I'm not the leader you think I am, I-I can't. I just can't." He said.

"Yes you can." A voice said. Charles turned to see Angela walk over and laid on top of him. He wrapped his arms around her as he sighed.

"I believe in you Charlie, you've led us before. I know it in my heart that you can lead us." Angela said glancing up at him.

"But I-" No buts, you are a leader. What you've learned as a child is seared into the head of yours, we all believe in you. I believe in you." Angela cut in. Charles stared at her smiling face before sighing.

"It's no use arguing with you. But I can try." Charles said. Angela smiled and kissed his cheek. "See, if you believe in yourself, you can do anything if you set your mind to it." She said giggling.

"Yeah, perhaps." Charles said sitting. "C'mon, let's go rally the troops." Angela said walking to the door. Charles followed as the two made it to the rec room where some of the agent were conversing with the Unit. Charles looked over to see Lena leaning on Aaron as he smiled. As the two entered, the agents stood at attention.

"Commander, sir." Ana said. "At ease, heh, feels weird being called sir." He replied. The agents walked over and looked at him.

"I guess our first priority is to find a suitable base for us." Charles said. "Sir, I've been looking through every available decommissioned Watchpoint. The one that could help us, is Ecopoint Antarctica." Winston said.

"No!" Mei said, causing them to look at her. "Anywhere but that place." She pleaded. Charles looked at her before nodding.

"I can try to convince the UN to reinstate Overwatch, but for the time being, you can stay here. We'll ration out the food as best we can." Lawson offered.

"Thank you." David replied. Lawson looked at the two before turning away. Barnes walked over to him and nudged his shoulder.

"I understand you still have doubts, but they did help Overwatch fend off the Talon attack they had sustained. That counts as a good deed in my book." She said. Lawson heard footsteps behind him as he turned to see Julie smiling at him.

"Thank you, Commander, for everything you've done. I can understand your distrust of me and David, but know at the bottom of my heart I thank you." She said before retreating back to David. Lawson watched the two hug each other before walking over to Charles and Angela.

"I guess I have my own demons to vanquish." He said before leaving. "So, Ecopoint Anatarctica is out of the question, what next for an outpost?" Charles asked.

"I can look for any other Watchpoints for us. In the meantime, We'll need to think of our counter attack for Talon and their elementals." Winston said. The gorilla lumbered over to Aaron and began to converse with him.

"I don't know why, but this is making me think of the Null Sector." Lena said. "You're right." Angela replied. Charles sighed as he looked at the agents nodding at him. Genji walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Have faith, we'll think of something." Genji reassured him. 'I hope you're right.' Charles thought.

~Hanzo~

The archer wandered the streets of Gibraltar, looking for any sign of the Watchpoint. 'Where is it?' He wondered before glancing up to see white smoke.

"What's that?" He asked aloud. "You didn't hear? The old decommissioned Watchpoint was raided and destroyed." A passerby informed him.

"Really!?" Hanzo asked. "Yeah, I saw some ships fly away from wreckage. I hope no one was there." The man said before walking away. Hanzo ran towards the smoke, hopping the fence and landing outside the destroyed entrance. Bullet casings littered the ground as bullet holes appeared on every wall. The archer walked throughout the base, seeing blood patches, guns, and even charred skeletons.

"ああ神 (Oh God)." Hanzo said. He entered the base as electricity crackled from destroyed panels, computers, and security cameras. He walked to the hangar bay where a circle of blood encircled a single body. Hanzo walked cautiously to the body to see a man with a blue ripped jacket, a face with dried blood and scar running down his face. Hanzo noticed a knife gripped in his fist.

"Looks like he went down without a fight." Hanzo said kneeling next to the body. "I should bury him." Hanzo grabbed a shovel and walked outside as he dug a hole big enough for a body. He grabbed a white sheet and wrapped the body in it. He picked it up the wrapped corpse, walking to the grave and gently placing him down. He grabbed the shovel and placed the dirt in the hole, finishing the grave.

"May you find rest." Hanzo said bowing. He turned and walked to the command room, praying it was still intact.

"Ah, it's still intact." He said typing away. He checked the surveillance recordings, he watched as the fight broke out.

"I hope they weren't killed." Hanzo said as he fast forward until it showed the agents evacuating the base from the hangar. It showed Jack fighting the operatives and elementals as the ship holding the agents departed. He could faintly hear someone shout 'Jack' as it flew away.

"So, that is Jack." Hanzo said before he could hear feet. Not wanting to be caught, the archer dived under a desk as he pulled out his bow and notched an arrow.

"So, why are we here?" He heard someone say. "There's someone here, seems he's being nosy." A second person replied. The door opened as Hanzo shrank down more, his arrow ready. A man walked in front of Hanzo's line of sight as he aimed it at his shin and fired, the arrow impaling into his kneecap.

"AHHHH!!!!" He screamed in pain. "What is it?" The other asked. "There's a fucking arrow in my goddamn knee! What else do think it is?!?" He yelled. Hanzo rolled out of his cover as he notched another arrow and fired it at the other's throat, killing him. He turned and looked at the injured man.

"I want to know what happened here. You better explain fast, my patience is thinning." He threated.

"Look man, Talon had attacked the reforming Overwatch, I was sent after the invasion to make sure no survivors tried to return. I swear that's all I know!" "Was there a cyborg when you decided to invade?" Hanzo asked.

"Y-yeah, I think so. Green cyborg right?" The man asked. "Thank you." Hanzo said walking away. The man sighed before he heard an arrow being notched.

"W-wait! I told you what I know!" The man said. "I know, I'm doing this because I want too and to avenge the murder of Jack." He said before releasing the string, the arrow impaling itself in his skull.

"Scum." Hanzo said before leaving. Hanzo walked back to his waiting ship as he began thinking of Genji and Charles.

'I hope they're okay.' He thought.

~Charles~

Charles sat on his bed as he thought of was to fight against Talon. He heard a knock as he turned to see Angela.

"How are you feeling?" She asked. "I'm doing good, I guess." He replied. She walked over and sat next to him. She grasped his hand and squeezed lightly, running circles over the top of his palm.

"I'm here for you Charlie. We're here for you." Angela said. "I know, I've got to be strong for them." Charles said leaning on her shoulder.

"Don't worry kid, we'll find a way. I promise." Aaron said in the doorway. The two looked at Aaron as he smiled and nodded.

"Thank you, for everything you and the Unit have done. I don't what to repay you with." Charles said before Aaron raised a hand.

"Kid, I'm glad to help. After being with you, being with a team, I've finally found peace with Overwatch. It helped me find someone I'd call brother." He said grinning. "Even though you've had 3 other people, 2 to be brothers and one a sister." Charles pointed out.

"Get some rest, we've got a long week ahead of us." Aaron said as he left. Charles nodded as removed his shoes and relaxed in the bed. Angela followed suit as she relaxed her head onto his chest and sighed.

"We're in this together, promise." Charles said before the pull of sleep pulled him away.
