Glasses
They ate their lunch in peace. Arabella loved the tender taste of the meat that was almost perfect.
"Grandpa? What type of meat is this?" she asked in an innocent voice.
"Um... Pig," he replied. It didn't taste much like pig, more like cow. She shrugged it off, and ate the rest of her meal, savoring the sweet taste.
"Oh, honey. How many times have I asked you to wear your glasses? I don't care about your stupid reasoning. You need to wear them," her grandma said after grandpa had spilt the pea bowl. "This meat is very good, isn't it?"
They finished the meal and then the girls went outside to play in the beautiful snow. They played in the back, because they had more room back there.
They soon heard a car rumbling up to the driveway, so they ran onto the porch, and shook the snow off their boots and coats. The two girls giggled and then smirked as they swung the door open.
They slid into the kitchen in their cold socks, and immediately stopped when they saw their cousin, Mark.
He was older than Arabella, and was a lot stronger, too.
"What do you want, moron?" he asked in an impolite voice. Arabella rolled her eyes. He's the moron, she thought. Mark walked down the stairs, his heavy body almost breaking the stairs in half.
The basement is where they usually would play, so the girls followed him. They weren't as heavy, though.
After the event, she quickly realized this was a mistake.
She flopped down onto the huge couch, and flipped channels on the tv with the remote.
"Arabella, there's a monster in the bathroom," Zoe said as she sprinted out of the bathroom in a hurry.
"What?" She replied. She walked into the bathroom cautiously, ready for a simple prank.
But, a prank did not come. What did come, was complete reality.
She walked into the bathroom, her back facing the door, not prepared for a sneak attack.
"I don't see any-" her voice was cut off by a sharp pain in the back. She was slammed into the wall.
"Don't you understand? No, you don't. You're too stupid." She identified the voice as her horrific cousin. He grabbed her arms and threw her at the sink.
Her gut was smashed by the force of herself hitting the sink, and with that, her glasses slipped off. Her eyes were tearing up, and she stumbled around to find her glasses.
Her sweaty hands clutched a pair of glasses that were unfamiliar, but she didn't care. She just needed to see what her cousin had done to her sister.
She applied the glasses and she had figured out that they belonged to her grandpa. She hastily pushed them on, on fell against the wall when she saw a figure using the toilet as a chair.
She slid down the wall and gently put here hand on her fore head. When she released her arm, she saw blood smeared across it. She stood up and looked in the mirror.
She gave a bone chilling scream when the reflection didn't belong to her. She wheeled around and saw that no one was behind her.
I'm terror, she ran out of the bathroom and into the basement living room. To her nightmares, she saw more horrific figures standing in front of her. The transparent people covered the entire room, sending cold chills up her spine.
Her sweater was now a mixture of red and yellow, and she knew she needed to do something about the wound that was spilling blood all over her body.
Who were these people? What was going on? The thoughts flooded through her mind, drowned her, and by the end she was gasping for air.
She ran back into the bathroom as fast as she could, which wasn't very fast, to see it also was crowded with imaginary people.
She had a quick idea she was seeing them because of the glasses, but she couldn't take them off. She had to wear them in case Mark came back.
She walked through the ghosts towards the sink where she found her own glasses resting near the drain. She pulled the fake glasses off, slipped them into her pocket, and pushed the real ones on.
It had been worse than one of those horror movies. What had happened? Was Zoe alright?
