Chapter Ten
Knock Knock Knock. Ana doesn't open the door. She waits for Mason to show knowing he's been paying close attention. She sees Mason come around the corner and straight for the door. "Hi. I'm look-"
"I know." Mason cuts him off. Ana gets off the couch, after sitting up and down four times and walks to the door.
"Sorry Magnus, Mason isn't so well today." She says and pushes him back a little. He doesn't budge much.
"Ah. Well can I come in?" He asks curously looking around. Ana nods and moves out of the way. Though he may have lied to her, she doesn't think he's a threat. If he wanted to hurt her he would have many years ago.
"Mason, stop acting like this-this." She whispers in his ear. She makes her way to the couch across from Magnus. "I...have some questions for you."
"Ok?" He questions and watches as Mason sits down next to Ana. He's good at noticing the small things.
"You said you found me in the woods after...the attack, right?"
"Yeah, you looked frazzled." He says continuing to watch Mason.
"Well...-"
"We are from the same pack and my parents knew the wolf doctor. You're not him. Explain." He interrupts Ana. Ana glares over at him annoyed. You know he can't see you. Her wolf says. I know that, but it makes me feel better. Ana replies before turning back to Magnus.
"So, what you think that I'm pretending to be a wolf doctor, or what? I've helped you for how many years now." He says with a small smile. His emotions never seem to match the mood of the room.
"Well I was just wondering if you could clear up a few things. I got people telling me they found me under my mom and another telling me I was found in the woods. Which is what I remember." She adds quietly.
"I wasn't the main doctor no. I helped in the back, making medication and I wasn't at the pack house often." He replies simply.
"Do you know why they would say I was found with no heartbeat and by my mom?" Ana asks getting more confused.
"I only saw a little girl walking in the woods and then recognized it was you. I was going to leave a day after the attack happened to go and get more learning education." He says and leans on his elbows looking at Mason once again. "How long have you had the headache?" He questions towards Mason. He tilts his head up more.
"How'd you know?"
"You're tensed and keep closing your eyes. I'm a doctor and can see any symptoms. So, how long?"
"Around a day or two."
"Wasn't bad at first, but know it's really affecting you?" He questions before laying back against the couch.
"Yeah." Mason says getting suspicious of him.
"Why didn't you call and tell me you found your mate? Happy for you." He says sending a weird smile to Ana.
"Don't know. How-how'd you-"
"Magical." He says and Mason moves closer to Ana. "Well, I'm assuming you don't have any issues with your breathing. Just wanted to talk?"
"Yeah-yeah. I..um..Sorry, just wanted to figure some stuff out and thought you'd be able to help me." Ana says looking at him confused.
"Well I'll be on my way then. Hope your headache gets better." He says standing up and letting himself out.
"How'd-"
"I don't know." Ana says interrupting Mason. Ana continues to stare at the ground puzzled. Before she gets anything sorted out Kelly and John walk through the door. They went on a run.
"Is that who you thought was the pack doctor?" Kelly asks looking at Ana. She simply nods twice.
"He's not a doctor. He's a warlock." John says concerned.
"What business does he have with you?" Kelly questions taking a seat where Magnus was.
"He-he's always helped me with my medical problems," Ana says not noticing that she said an odd number of words. "What's a warlock?" She asks looking up at them.
"They know magic. They're immortal and will do anything for the right price." John grumbles. Ana closes her eyes not sure of what to think anymore.
"And you trust him." Mason adds. Ana once again glares over at him.
"He was always there for me. Didn't have a reason not to." Ana says bitterly.
"Well you picked the perfect person to trust." He mumbles.
"You know what Mason, who was I supposed to go to. How about put yourself in my shoes and then tell me who you would trust. Until then keep your mouth to yourself." She states before standing up and walking to there room.
"Well someone's pissy." He grumbles and his parents look at him confused.
"Mason. Are you alright?" His mom asks.
"Yeah. Why?"
"It's not like you to act...like this." She says. Mason shakes his head and stands up.
"Whatever. I'm going for a run." He says before taking off.

"Yeah. Like a total jerk." Ana says to Grace.
"Well when mates are together, but aren't...fully together it puts a strain on not only him, but also you. You both have to control your wolves which can be difficult and also finding all this information can add to the stress. I'm not taking his side or anything, but it's not like you two are having it easy right now." Grace says as David mindlinks that he hasn't found Mason.
"I..I can't-"
"And Mason will wait. I'm not telling you to or anything, but it will cause a strain on both of you." Grace says making Ana nod her head. "How about we go and watch tv or play a game?" Grace offers standing up.
"No thanks. I'm just gonna try and get some sleep. Thanks though." Ana says grabbing her headphones.
"Okay. What me to wake you up for dinner?"
"Sure-sure." Ana replies before putting her headphones in. She listens to the piano and closes her eyes.
She tosses and turns before giving up. She can't sleep unless Mason's with her now. She gets up and walks to his extra room. She closes the door and takes a seat on the bench. She places her fingers on the keys and starts to play the song she learned.
Ana quietly hums along with the music.
Ana doesn't notice that two hours have passed until Grace knocks on the door. "Dinner's ready if you want any. It's pizza." Ana thinks about it, but doesn't feel like eating.
"Thanks, but I'm just gonna stay in here." She says looking out the little side window.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, thanks." Ana says and she and her wolf are missing Mason. We should look for him. Her wolf says getting anxious. No. he needs his time to just calm down. Ana says repeating it to herself.

Ana sits on the ledge above the sink. She stares out at the yard waiting for Mason. It's ten o'clock and he's still not home. Everyone else is asleep, Ana let Grace and David have her room since his parents are in their room. Ana takes another sip of her hot chocolate and pulls her legs closer to herself.
She stares and stares outside and sees it's almost 2 in the morning. She gets up, rinses her cup twice and is ready to go look for him when the back door opens. Ana sees him walk in and runs into his arms. "Don't do that-that." She says wrapping her arms around his bare torso. She notices that he's shivering. "Come on." She quickly pulls him to the couch and makes him sit down. She takes her sweatshirt off, leaving her in a tank top and her yoga pants. She sits ontop of him and then pulls the blankets around them.
She wraps her arms around him again. He leans into her warmth and pulls her closer. "Why did you stay out there? You're so cold-cold." Ana says rubbing his back.
"I d-didn't m-mean to." He says, his teeth chattering. Ana pulls the blanket around them tighter. "I couldn't shift." He says. Ana looks up at his face. "I ran for a while and changed. When I was going to come back, I just couldn't. I don't know." He mumbles. Ana looks up at him concerned.
"What's happening? First your vision, then the headache, know this." Ana sees Mason open his eyes.
"I could see in my wolf form. When I got out there. It was still blurry and black and white, but I was able to make out certain objects. I changed into my human form to see, but nothing. Still blurry. Then I couldn't change back." He says making Ana's heart hurt for him. "I could have seen you." He says in a whisper. He puts his hands to her face. "I should have just run back. Then I could have seen you." He says frustrated with himself. Ana notices his sudden anger.
"Hey, don't be mad with yourself. You couldn't know what would happen and it's not like you're missing much." Ana says trying to lighten the mood. Mason doesn't like what she says.
"But I am. I want so much to see your beautiful face. You are the only person I'd do anything for and I can't even picture you." He says pulling on Ana's heartstrings. Ana lays her head on his chest holds his freezing hands in hers.
Ana feels something wet land on her neck. She locks up at Mason and sees he has tears running down his cheeks. "Hey. Hey. What wrong?" She says wiping his tears. She leaves her hands on his face making him look down at her. She wishes he could see. Wishes she could help him.
"When I tried to shift back I couldn't and it caused pain throughout my whole body. I kept trying and then I knocked myself out." He pauses and takes a shaky breath. "I-I had a dream. You were in it and I couldn't help." He stops talking and takes a few breaths. "They were hurting you and I couldn't do anything. I was stuck." He says and more tears run from his eyes.
"Hey, that won't ever happen. I was just a dream." She says pulling him into her. He rests his head on her shoulder. She doesn't understand what's happening to him or why he thinks she's going to be hurt. The pack hasn't found her after how many years, who's to say they're going to now. "I just hear your screams." He says wrapping his arms around her tightly as if she's going to evaporate.
"Shh. It's ok. I'm fine. Shh." She says rubbing his back. She sees David appear from the corner. Mason keeps his head in her shoulder. "He'll be okay," Ana whispers knowing that he's worried. David nods, but stares at his brother. Ana continues to calm him down. This got him rattled. There has to be more. Ana's wolf says. If he wants to tell then he'll tell. Ana replies and Mason then pulls back from her shoulder. "Do you wanna talk to David? He's worried." Ana asks into his ear. Mason takes a deep breath. He wraps her in his arms once more and then lets go.
"Yeah, I'll talk to him." He says. Ana nods before getting up. She grabs her sweatshirt and walks down to her room. She knows Grace is going to be up.
"Is he ok?" Grace questions sitting up.
"I don't know. He said after running for a while that he could see. It was black and white, but he could see. He said he shifted into human form, but his vision was still blurry like before. When he went to shift back, he couldn't. He said it caused pain to his body and he pushed his body to the max and knocked himself out. He said he had a dream." Ana stops and leans on the wall. "He said that he heard me getting hurt, but there was nothing he could do. He felt helpless." Ana finishes and Grace stands up and walks over to her. "There's got to be more to the dream. He was scared. He truly looked like he saw a ghost."
Grace pulls Ana to sit on the bed. "That warlock. The one that claims to be a doctor. What if he is doing something to Mason. To try and separate you two." Grace wonders and Ana looks at her confused.
"Why would he do that-that?"
"They'll do anything. They don't have that many feelings after living for so long. He could be working with people that want you out of the picture."
"Then why hasn't he just killed me-me?" Ana questions.
"I don't know."
