Chapter 2
"I don't know but dental will be the only option. Looks like they were tortured. Cigaret burns up and down each arm and leg on both victims." Ducky said examining the bodies.
"I will go get the gurneys." Jimmy sighed walking out of the room.
"Where did Jethro go?" Ducky asked when he looked up.
"I don't know," Tony mumbled looking out the ajar door.
-.-.-
Later that day, Ziva, Tony and McGee were slowly drifting in and out of sleep.
"Gibbs can we please go home? We pulled an all-nighter last night." asked
Tony laying back in his office chair.
"Yeah, go home. I want you all here at 0800 sharp." Ordered Gibbs, feeling sorry about how hard his team is working for no payout.
"Do you wanna go and get drinks?" Tony asked Ziva as the three agents started packing up their gear.
"No, sorry Tony. Maybe later I'm really tired." Ziva said.
McGee walked by the two agents and jogged into the closing elevator.
Tony sighed as he walked into the outside of the shiny metal doors. Ziva soon joined him as they stood in silence feeling the glossy eyes of their boss dwell into their backs.
When they stepped in the elevator and starting going down, Tony flipped the emergency switch.
"Spill it." he ordered.
"What do I need to spill Tony?"she asked nervously.
"You have been distracted lately. Now, what is wrong?" Tony asked looking down at his female partner.
"Tony, nothing is wrong." Ziva lied. She glanced into his green eyes but suddenly looked away. He could see right through her, through her walls that she puts up so no one learns her
But what really bothered her was the case. It hit close to home with the whole team but mainly her. The first body that was found was a female ex-NCIS employee who moved to Israel.
Her body was found in a yellow clay room much like the one Ziva was held in Somalia. The women's injeries
"Zi, please let me help you." Tony whispered pulling her back towards him. "I know this scares you more than anyone can ever understand. Daniel hurt his victims like..." He trailed off noticing the hurt in her eyes."I'm sorry Zi I... I shouldn't have brought this up." Tony but his lip and put the elevated back into motion.
Ziva switched it off again. "What happened to me in Somalia was horrible and no human should have to go through that. I don't understand how he knows..." She glanced back up at Tony.
"That's what we are going to figure out," Tony reassured, slowly grabbing Zivas hand and squeezing it softly.
"When..." She started to tear up. "After about two months of being there, I started to think about.."
"What?" He asked softly rubbing her cheek with his other hand. Nod icing her hesitation, he continued, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want too."
"You." She whispered. Looking up at his deep emerald eyes.
Tony's hand still renamed on Zivas strong jaw bone. He raised his other to mimic it.
Slowly he nudged her close enough that their noses were touching. Their lips only millimeters apart. "Ziva I..."
"I need to get home though Tony..." Ziva panicked as she pulled away from him and flipped the elevated switch back into motion.
"Ziva..." He whispered wondering what he did wrong. Her walls fell down for him, it may have only been a few minutes, but he could get inside and feel her pain.
"The past is the past no mater how painful it was. Goodnight Tony." She said as she stepped out of the elevator into the lobby.
"Wait Zi!" He called as he chased after her. Ziva had already exited the building when she turned around. The faint street light glimmered over her glassy eyes that made her even more beautiful than before.
"What Tony? Please I wanna go home." She whispered as she looked at him.
"I'm sorry, I didn't..."He sighed not knowing himself what just happened in the elevator.
"Tony," her eyes glazed up even more. She calmly continued. "You will never understand the blistering pain about not knowing what they will do to you next and how it feels to think that you will never see your family again. That they will never see you alive again. That you will never see the one you love again." Ziva turned and headed for her car without another word.
"But I do," Tony whispered watching Ziva quickly drive off in her red mini.
-.-.-
Ziva arrived at her apartment quicker than she has ever done before. She dropped her bag on the couch and went to the kitchen for some water.
Dried tears caked her soft skin as new ones started to roll down.
"Why did I tell him? I never talk about what happened in Somalia. I told him that he was the one that kept me alive. Why did I do that?" She thought aloud, felling the warm tears roll down her face and drop down on the counter in front of her.
She set the empty glass into the sink and made her way to her bedroom. Ziva grabbed a picture frame off the mahogany nightstand. It was a picture of Tony that Abby had given to her. His mouth was wide open and his eyes were popped out of his head.
She giggled at the picture, making her feel a little better.
Turning around, Ziva noticed the door to her closet was slightly ajar. This was unusual because she purposely shut the door that morning to use the mirror that was mounted on the back.
She reached for her sig but the hoister was empty. Before she could move from the side of her bed, a sharp pain struck her on the side of her head.
She fell to the ground instantly reaching for her back up strapped to her ankle. A steady trickle of blood spilled out from her the side of her head making her vision blurry and her movements slower.
A boot plunged on her wrist before the gun was in hand. Ziva felt the sig being removed from the holster and the two hidden knifes being pulled from her.
"Well my darling were going for a little ride!"
