Kiry was feeling very confused. She'd never felt this way in her entire life and she had no idea what to do. She was beginning to fall in love with Christopher and her affections for Jai were about as fresh as last weeks' flowers, figuratively speaking. If she hadn't started the letters to Jai, she could just forget about him and spend all her time and energy on Christopher. But she had written the letters and, according to Christopher, Jai had supposedly fallen for this girl hiding behind paper and pen, just waiting for her to slip up and reveal her identity so he could spend the rest of his life with her. Now that Kiry was with Christopher, that wouldn't be able to happen, and she didn't want to disappoint Jai or hurt his feelings too badly.

Kiry wasn't looking forward to seeing what Christopher's reaction was going to be. No matter how she handled this situation, one of them – or both of them – was going to be hurt or upset. She saw no way around it. She couldn't go to her parents for assistance, and all the kids that she knew at school didn't know her well enough to be of any help at all. And Christopher...well, she'd have to tell him eventually. It was just a matter of figuring out when and how.

What Kiry finally decided to do was to drop off one more note. But this time she went to Jai's Valentine's Day card table.

You'll know who I am by the end of

this letter, but I'm going to say first

off: you and I aren't going to work out.

I'm sorry for causing this mess, but

over all this time that has passed since

the first letter I wrote you, I've come

to realize that you were just part of a

fantasy. You didn't see me for who I

really was; you didn't even know what

my name was and have been calling me

by my last name this whole time. I was

just another girl in an endless sea of

teenagers that make up high school. But

your friend Christopher saw me and I

started liking him instead of you. I'm sorry

to say all of this, but I wouldn't have been

able to go on pretending for much longer.

I hope we can eventually be friends after

you get over your infatuation with your

"mystery girl." I hope you understand and

don't get too upset at me. And my final

hope is that you can find someone else

who can return your affections.
