Chapter 5
•Rapunzel's POV•
I couldn't wait to go to The Snuggly Duckling!
I love ducks! They're so cute, and well, snuggly! They have the cutest little feet and I think their waddle is adorable!
I let out a squeal as I saw the sign to the place.
Hiccup opened the door for us and when we went inside, everyone was staring at us.
They were thugs! Just how Mother described them! Scary! Maybe she was right. Maybe, we shouldn't have left.
"Look!" One of the thugs shouted. "It's the three thieves! Get 'em!"
My sisters and I moved back in confusion as the thugs started pulling on the three boys.
The thugs kept shouting something about a reward.
I decided to take action and I jumped up on the table. "HEY!" I gulped as all the thugs stopped to look at me.
"Find your humanity! Haven't any of you ever had a dream?" I asked.
I shrunk back and Elsa and Merida ran to me as a thug with a hook and a mustache walked up to me.
He stood right in front of me and said, "I had a dream, once."
Then he started to sing.
"I'm malicious, mean, and scary. My sneer could curdle dairy. And violence-wise my hands are not the cleanest." I backed up a little bit as he said this.
"But despite my evil look, and my temper and my hook...I've always yearned to be a concert pianist!" I smiled as he jumped up and started playing the piano.
"Can'tcha see me on the stage performin' Mozart?" He asked.
I smiled at him as he played. He was actually really good.
"Tickling the ivories 'til they gleam? Yep, I'd rather be called deadly for my killer show tune medley. Thank you! 'Cause way down deep inside I've got a dream!"
I watched the thugs run around singing, "He's got a dream! He's got a dream!"
"See, I ain't as cruel and vicious as I seem!" The hook-hand thug sang.
"Though I do like breaking femurs, you can count me with the dreamers! Like everybody else I've got a dream!"
I jumped slightly as another thug with a Viking hat and a big nose started singing to us.
"I've got scars and bumps and bruises, and something here that oozes." He said, pointing to his arm.
We all made a disgusted face.
"And let's not even mention my complexion. But despite my extra toes,"He sang, wiggling his foot.
"My goiter and my nose! I really want to make a love connection!" I let out an, 'aw.'
"Can't you see me with a special little lady, rowin' in a rowboat down the stream?" He asked.
"Though I'm one disgusting blighter, I'm a lover, not a fighter. 'Cause way down deep inside I've got a dream!"
"He's got a dream!" The thugs sang.
"I've got a dream! And I know one day romance will reign supreme!" He declared.
"Though my face leaves people screaming, there's a child behind it dreaming. Like everybody else, I've got a dream!" He smiled.
"Tor would like to quit and be a florist!" A man with flowers popped up.
"Gunther does interior design!" I looked at a skinny man with furniture and decor.
"Ulf is into mime! Attila's cupcakes are sublime! Bruiser knits! Killer sews! Fang does little puppet shows!"
"And Vladimir collects ceramic unicorns!" Hook-hand sang, revealing a big man with a tiny unicorn.
We all looked at the boys and they simply said, "We don't sing."
One thug threw knives at their heads and Jack started singing. "We have dreams like you, no, really!"
"Just a little less, touchy feely." Flynn explained.
"They mainly happen," Jack started but Hiccup interrupted,"Someplace warm and sunny!"
I laughed as Jack glared at him. Jack probably wants someplace cold.
"On an island!" Flynn continued. "That we own!" Jack added.
"Tanned and rested and alone!" Hiccup wished. "Surrounded by enormous piles of money!" They agreed.
All the thugs just glared and I decided to continue the song. I pulled Merida and Elsa up onto a table with me.
"I've got a dream!" I sang.
"We've got a dream!" Elsa and Merida joined in. "We just want to see the floating lanterns gleam!"
"And with every passin' hour," Merida sang. "I'm so glad we left out tower!" Elsa sang loudly.
"Like all you lovely folks, we've got a dream!" I sang.
The thugs started up their singing again. "She's got a dream! He's got a dream! They've got a dream! We've got a dream! So our diff'rences ain't really that extreme! We're one big team!"
"Call us brutal! Sick!"
"Sadistic!" Hook-hand sang. "And grotesquely optimistic!" Big Nose yelled.
"Cause way down deep inside we've got a dream! Yes way down deep inside, we've got a dream!" We all finished.
Everything suddenly got quiet as soldiers burst through the door.
I felt Flynn pick me up off the table and whisper, "Time to go." while ducking beneath the crowd.
As the guards asked the thugs if they'd seen the three thieves, Hook-Hand pulled on a lever with a duckling, and a secret passage appeared.
"Run. Go live your dream." He told us.
"Don't worry, we will." Flynn promised. "I was talking to the girls." Hook-Hand stated, annoyed. "Your dream is stupid."
The three boys looked agitated as he said this. I giggled. Ouch.
"Thank you." I smiled at him and we ran off into the tunnel. "Hurry!" Hiccup hissed as the light from the soldiers' lantern illuminated the passageway.
All of us took a turn in grabbing my hair and running.
For the first time in my life, I wished my hair wasn't so long. But you know, I've never run for my life before.
We ended up at the edge of a cliff where a large contraption for water was standing.
"Who are they?" I asked, pointing at the palace guards.
"They don't like us." Hiccup explained.
"Who are they?" I asked again, this time pointing at two tall and muscular gingers.
"They don't like us either." Jack said.
"Who is that?!" I shouted, pointing at the white horse. "Let's just assume nobody here likes us!" Flynn yelled.
"Hold this." I ordered Flynn, handing him my frying pan. I sighed and threw my hair onto a strong piece of wood on the other side of the canyon.
I pulled on it, and once I felt it was fastened tightly, I grabbed my sisters and hurled us off the cliff.
We swung down and slid into a stream.
"What about the boys?" Elsa asked, her voice full of worry. "It's okay." I reassured her. "I left them my frying pan."
We watched as Hiccup punched, Jack froze them, and Flynn hit them with the frying pan like they were baseballs.
Soon, they were all knocked out and they jumped, landing in a pool of water.
"I have got to get me one of these!" Flynn yelled as he admired the frying pan.
The horse got up and watched from the top. It seemed to think like a human. If not, smarter.
Suddenly, a giant bolder like a tower started to fall, taking the water structures down with it.
"Run!" Flynn yelled, pointing towards a cave. I ran as fast I could go, pulling my sisters with me.
I couldn't think, all I could do was feel. Feel my legs pumping, and my heart beat which felt like it was in my throat.
We slid inside just before the boulder came down, trapping us inside. It wasn't sealed tight enough for the water, though.
It started leaking in from all around it.
We backed up against the wall, trying to stay away from it for as long as possible.
The boys started to dive under the water, looking for a way out. "I can't see anything down there!" Hiccup complained.
I dove under the water. Maybe I could see something they didn't.
I was quickly pulled up by Flynn. "Its no use." He told me. "Its pitch black down there."
I sighed. By now, the water was already up to our waist.
"My real name is Eugene Fitzherbert." Flynn said suddenly. "I figured at least a few people should know." He said with a sad smile.
"For the record, I like Eugene Fitzherbert much better than Flynn Rider." I told him.
"What about you, Blondie? Got anything you'd like to tell us?" He asked.
"I have magic hair that glows when I sing." I confessed.
Then it hit me. "I have magic hair that glows when I sing!" As the water rose, I started my song.
"Flower, gleam and glow. Let your power shine." I sang rapidly as the water started going over our heads.
I still continued to sing. "Make the clock reverse. Bring back what once was mine."
When I could no longer sing, I hummed instead and sang in my head.
I wasn't sure if it would work, but it was worth a shot.
Heal what has been hurt. Change the Fates' design. Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine.
What once was mine.
I opened my eyes to see everyone else digging and pulling up rocks.
I felt around in the new space until I felt a loose rock and pushed. My hand disappeared behind the wall, and wherever it went, there was air!
Everyone crowded around me and helped to make the hole bigger.
Suddenly, everything gave way and we all fell into a stream.
•Jack's POV•
I came up, gasping for air and heaved myself onto the bank.
I laid there for a moment, just listening to my own heart beat. I looked around and took a head count of everyone.
Flynn, Hiccup, Merida, Rapunzel...wait. Where's Elsa?
I jumped up and started shouting, "Elsa! Elsa!" Where is she?
I turned around as I heard a voice say. "I'm fine, Jack." It was Elsa. "Oh my God. I thought something happened to you." I said.
She blushed, "You were worried about me?"
Then it was my turn to blush, "Well, of course." I told her. "I care about you."
"She has magic glowing hair." I turned to a gasping Flynn, or Eugene. "It really glows."
"Yeah, buddy. It glows." I chuckled, helping the girls up.
He still looked shocked as he took Rapunzel's hand so he could stand. He just kept staring at her and I laughed.
For the first time, Flynn Rider didn't have anything to say.
She touched his hand and showed us the gash in it from the sharp rocks. "It doesn't just glow." She said.
-----------------
I watched her take his hand and wrap it in her hair.
"Just...don't freak out." She said. We nodded, well, Hiccup, Flynn, and I. Elsa and Merida didn't seem phased at all.
I figured they already knew.
She started to sing again. The same song as last time. Something about a flower, and changing Fate.
When she was finished, she slowly unwrapped his hand to reveal it was completely healed.
We all just sat there staring, except the girls. They just had this smug look on their faces.
"Now, that was cool." Hiccup said breaking the silence.
"Um...I'm gonna go to sleep." Elsa said suddenly. She awkwardly walked over to a darker spot and turned her back to us.
Everyone else continued to talk, but I couldn't help but hear Elsa quietly singing.
"Don't let them in, don't let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be."
I quietly crept over to her, she hadn't noticed yet.
"Conceal, don't feel, put on a show. Make one wrong move and everyone will know."
I laid down next to her and wrapped my arms around her. She flinched, but I continued to hug her.
After a moment, I whispered in her ear, "Let it go."
She relaxed and the ground under me felt slick for some reason. I looked down to see it was covered in frost.
Frost. Frost that's not mine. "Elsa?" I asked.
"Please, don't hurt me." She pleaded. "Don't hurt us." I was taken aback by her words.
"I'd never hurt you, Elsa." I told her. "I know the frost is yours, but aren't you cold? I mean, I can't keep anybody warm." I sighed.
I smiled and hugged her tighter at her words, "The cold never bothered me anyway."
