Chapter 4

Bianca's POV

"Don't we have enough yet? We've been walking for hours," I whined as Marcus and I trudged through the forest looking for firewood.

"No we don't have enough yet, and would you quit whining! We've only been walking 20 minutes!"

"It feels like forever," I muttered, glaring at nothing in particular. Suddenly, I heard a distant rumbling. I glanced at Marcus.

"Was that your stomach?" I asked. "Please tell me that was your stomach."

"That wasn't my stomach," he said. "We'd better hurry up and get enough wood. If it rains, we can't make a fire."

After that, we speed gathered, all the while watching the dark clouds rolling in.

Once ten minutes of speed gathering in silence had passed, Marcus straightened.

"I think we have enough," he said. "We should get back."

I looked around.

"Um, do you have any idea which way we came from?" I asked.

"No, but that's why we brought this." He pulled the GPS out of his pocket and hit a button that said "cabin."

It beeped, and two dots appeared on the map. One said "you" and the other said "cabin." Marcus walked a few steps to see which way we were facing, then turned in the direction of the cabin.

We had barely taken two steps, when it started to rain.

"Great. Just great! Not only are we in the middle of nowhere, but it's raining too," I said sarcastically.

He scowled.

"I can see that, Bianca."

"Oh good, cause I thought you might be blind as well as deformed."

He whirled on me and opened his mouth to speak, when there was a brilliant flash of light and a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree causing both Marcus and I to be blown backwards.

The last thing I remember is thinking, 'Well, I guess we at least have an excuse for not getting the firewood back in time,' and then I passed out.
