TWELVE

The first step to what is right, is often the hardest

Stark called another meeting the next morning. Louise and Peter were first to arrive, laughing together about some inside joke when they appeared.

"Are you two..." Stark trailed off as he looked accusingly from one to the other.

"No! we aren't dating!" Peter scoffed at once, Louise's eyes widened when he said this, she hadn't quite figured out what Stark had meant.

"He thought we were dating?" She exclaimed. "That's stupid!" Peter's eyes flashed with hurt for a fraction of a second and then he smiled at her.

"Crazy old man." He murmured to her, she laughed half-heartedly.

"Right, okay." Stark didn't sound as if he believed them, but he went to his computer and carried on with some work.

The others quickly joined them, a few looking as though they had just woken up.

"So what's the plan?" Clint asked, as no one seemed to want to question Stark. No one seemed to want to go on the mission either.

"We've located... Mike." Stark sounded disgusted at the thought of the weird man with some sort of power. Louise sniggered.

"Oh I hate that guy!" Peter commented, Louise patted his arm.

"Hush." She said. "Stark's telling us his master plan."

"Anyway, as I was saying." Stark shot a glare at Louise. "He's in one part of new jersey, the only problem is, that's where his factory is, meaning whatever weapons, whatever he's creating in there is a threat."

"So we take out the factory, then we take him out." Clint cleared up with a shrug.

"Out as on a date?" Louise asked Peter.

"Out as in dead." Peter answered with a laugh.

"Oh, and how do we do that?" Louise asked with a frown.

"Louise, you're good at ruining things, aren't you?" Stark asked

"Damn right I am!" The girl exclaimed with a nod.

"If we destroy his 'robots', can you wire up the building with explosives?" Stark asked. "And get them to set off when we're safe?"

"I sure can try." Louise nodded.

"Peter, I'll need you to cover for her." Stark added. Peter nodded.

"Sure."

"Go and get ready, we'll configure the explosives." Stark ordered, the group disbanded and Louise just sighed at the man. "Alright kid, I'm trusting you with this, don't blow yourself up."

"If it happens, it's not intentional." She answered with a shrug.

"Let's get to work." Stark said, she nodded and got to work, searching the lab for the equipment she needed to make it work.

"we need a detonator, maybe one for each that we can connect all together. Make it easy." She said, thinking aloud whilst she worked.

"Good plan." Stark said, she looked up, she hadn't realised he had heard her. She nodded at him.

"No need to sound so surprised." She scoffed, but she was glad he approved of her plan, it made it seem like she was doing something right.

"How quickly can you get this done?" Stark asked, she looked up at him and shrugged.

"I don't know, half an hour maybe." She answered, he nodded.

"Then you have half an hour." He nodded. She sighed, she hoped that was all the time she needed.

Wiring the explosives was harder than she had thought, but she still managed it somehow.

By the time she was finished and was ready to fight, it was almost time for them to leave. She quickly got changed and piled the explosives into a bag, hoping it wouldn't set anyting off. When she was done, she found Hawkeye outside, going through his collection of arrows for the mission. Each one seemed to be slightly different.

"What do they do?" she asked him curiously.

"One is just a normal arrow, but some are a bit more interesting." He told her, "This one blows stuff up and the other emits an electrical pulse to whatever it hits. Can knock people out with it."

"That is so cool!" She exclaimed, he laughed at her.

"I'm guessing you finished the explosives?" He asked her, she nodded.

"Yep! You'll have to run fast if you want to live!" She laughed.

"Comforting!" He laughed with her.

Stark and the others arrived, he did not look impressed, but they were all in their fighting gear, with weapons enough for at least one hundred people. And that was only the three of them.

"Let's go!" Louise celebrated. Stark rolled his eyes at her and ordered them all to get into the aircraft. She pulled a face at his back. Peter laughed at her.

The aircraft set off and Louise felt a sudden jolt of homesickness. Which was strange, as the Avengers HQ was her home now and her parents never really cared for her, but she missed them.

"You alright?" Clint asked her, he sounded slightly concerned. She nodded.

"Air travel just isn't agreeing with me today." She answered. He smiled at her and offered her a mint, she took one gratefully.

"Worried about today?" Peter asked her gently. She nodded, glad to have an excuse. "We'll be fine. Don't worry."

"I've never done anything like this before." She replied. It was true that she was a little nervous, but that wasn't what was playing on her mind. When this was over, she wanted to pay her mother a visit. Yes, that seemed like a better plan.

"I was nervous on my first proper fight too." Clint told them. "But it always gets easier."

His words of wisdom were a comfort to her, and she gave him a smile. "I guess there are worse people I could be doing this with."

"That's the spirit!"
